As they looked at him, Liam also had swollen lips, and it was clear what had happened.

However, he was just too handsome, and he looked absolutely calm. There was not a hair out of place on his head.

On the other hand, Maria was not so composed.

She blushed fiercely, and Leah's teasing reminded her of the several times she failed to control herself when she was around Liam. Then, frustration and embarrassment welled up in her chest. Liam, who seemed to have noticed Leah making fun of Maria, glanced at her and smiled slightly. However, he didn't say anything.

It would be disrespectful to butt into the girls' conversation.

However, he cleverly changed the subject because he didn't want Maria to be in the spotlight anymore. "Maria, have you called Adrian? Why isn't he here?"

"Oh, right." Maria was jolted back to her senses. "I haven't called him." "Have you gotten in touch with each other?" Liam looked at Ernest quietly, and the topic was changed easily.

Ernest replied, "He came down to meet us ages ago, and we even had breakfast together. Adrian's gone upstairs to get something. Oh yeah, you guys haven't had breakfast, right?"

Seeing that they were all over each other as soon as they met, Ernest guessed that the two didn't have time to have breakfast.

"There's some food in the car," Maria said. "I'll bring you a box of it later."

"Is it delicious?" Leah asked with a smile.

"Of course, it's delicious," Maria said, "My mommy asked someone to prepare it earlier."

"That's great, I really want to try some!" Leah replied excitedly.

Ernest looked at her and said, "Leah, you ate a lot just now. Didn't you have enough?"

Leah frowned at Ernest's question. "Did I?"

Ernest was taken aback.

Leah added, "I don't recall that you paid for my meal though..."

Ernest paused and felt rather exasperated. Then, he explained, "What I mean is that you'll hurt your stomach if you eat too much."

"Well, it's up to me how much I wanna eat, since it's my stomach, right?" Leah looked away from Ernest to Maria and said while she lowered her voice, "Your cousin talks too much. It's not like I'm making him to pay for my meals, and yet he's still nagging me."

"I don't think of it that way. I think he cares about you." Maria looked at Leah in surprise.

"He said that I'm fat." Leah pouted and she looked very dissatisfied. "I'm only about 96 pounds. Is that fat?"

"Nope." Maria shook her head. Leah really wasn't fat at all, but she did eat a lot.

"Then it's fine."

"Is it the fact that he said you are fat that is bothering you, or is it because he said that you eat too much?" Maria felt that Leah was overreacting.

Leah's shoulders slumped and she admitted graciously, "Both, actually, but he's right. I'm fat, and I eat too much."

"Then, why are you angry?"

"Indeed, I don't know why I'm angry." Leah shrugged her shoulders, feeling extremely annoyed. "It could be because I created a character in Ernest's likeness, so I just feel like going against him at every chance I get."

Maria was suddenly speechless. She turned her head to look at Ernest who was next to her. Meanwhile, Ernest was speaking to Liam in hushed tones.

Leah realized that she'd probably gone overboard, so she smiled sheepishly.

"I suddenly think that I was too harsh just now," Leah said again. "I probably seem insane."

"Authors have very good imagination, don't they?" Maria noticed that Leah's feelings for Ernest seemed to be beyond normal friendship.

It seemed to have started from the moment when Ernest helped Leah getting medical attention for her family.

Leah had created a character in Ernest's likeness then. Was that some sort of subconsciousness?

Ernest seemed to take special care of Leah too.

He talked a lot more than usual when it came to her.

Something was definitely up. People didn't just behave unusually for no reason.

In short, there was a strange air around the two of them.

Maria figured that it would be a great thing anyway if Leah and Ernest got together.

Before she could tell Leah about her wonderful new idea that came to her, Adrian had come

downstairs and interrupted them.

When Adrian saw Maria and Liam, he immediately greeted them with a smile. "Hey, good morning. Liam, Maria, everyone's here, so shall we go?"

"We were just waiting for you. Did you sleep well last night?" Maria asked.

"Yeah, I sleep fine in just about anywhere." Adrian then shot her a suspicious glance and smirked at her. "On the other hand, you have serious dark eye circles. Didn't you sleep well?"

"I slept well too." Maria denied immediately, but her eyes darted to Liam subconsciously.

At the same time, Liam happened to look over at her and he keenly looked at her face.

He had noticed that Maria didn't sleep well earlier, but he hadn't had the time to point it out as he was too excited to see her.

Adrian was indeed sharp. Liam only looked at him and didn't say a word in reply.

"Okay, then." After that, Adrian walked over to Maria and lowered his head to whisper to her. "However, there could be another reason for dark eye circles."

"What?" Maria knew that Adrian wouldn't have anything good to say.

Sure enough, his smile was extremely sly. In a soft voice, he said, "Too much sex causes dark eye circles too. So, is it lack of sleep, or is it sex?"

"Adrian, you f*cking a*shole." Maria couldn't help but to curse.

Adrian broke into a sprint, but Maria caught up with him. "You psycho, how dare you say that about me?"

"Oh, spare me! I was wrong!" Adrian pleaded for mercy from her, but the smirk on his face grew larger.

When Liam saw Maria running after Adrian, a thought flashed through his mind. Maria behave so freely in front of others, and yet she held herself back in front of him.

He frowned.

Ernest glanced at him and said, "Let's go, Liam. I'll take Adrian to my car, and you take Maria. We'll get going first."

"Sure." Liam nodded as he followed Ernest. However, he heard Leah whispering behind him as he walked past her. "Hey, what's going on?"

She watched in a daze as Maria chased after Adrian and gave him a beating and actually kicking him. However, she still seemed rather dissatisfied. Then, Ernest grabbed her by the back of her collar and said, "Hurry up and go with Liam, we're setting off soon."

Maria paused for a second and seemed to realize how inappropriate she had been.

Then, she looked back at Liam hurriedly.

He wore sunglasses and a cap. He'd taken off his jacket, revealing his t-shirt and toned arms.

Maria didn't see any expression on his face as he walked over, but she felt something all the same. Liam was unhappy.

Maria knew him well, so she could tell at a glance what he was feeling.

She suddenly felt a little apologetic. She stepped forward and said to him, "Let's go."

"Okay." He nodded, and there was no trace of emotion in his voice.

Then, Leah grabbed her and said, "Hey, wait a minute, Maria."

"What is it?" Maria looked at Leah in confusion.

Leah glanced at Liam as he was looking at her as well, and she smiled at him. Then, she said, "Didn't you say there was food in the car? I want some, so can you get it for me?"

"Oh, I'll get it for you." Maria turned around and was about to walk over to the car.

After that, Leah stopped her again.

Only then did Maria realize that Leah wanted to speak to her again.

"What's the matter?"

Liam was in the middle of opening the car door, so he was out of earshot. Then, Leah was finally relieved and said to Maria, "You were too close with Adrian just now. Liam was staring, so be mindful, okay? Silly girl!"

Maria was stunned and then suddenly came to her senses. She hugged Leah and said, "You're right, Leah. I'm so stupid. I actually forgot about that."

"It's good that you remember it now." Leah smiled.

"Let's go. Your man is getting impatient."

Maria was speechless. Her man? Well, she really liked the sound of that. It made her feel that Liam was hers and hers alone.

When they arrived at the car, Liam took out a lunchbox and handed it to Maria.

Maria looked at him, took it, and handed it to Leah. "Here you go."

"Thanks." Leah winked at her before turning to leave.

Maria looked at Liam after getting on the car and found that he was expressionless, and he didn't take off his sunglasses.

"I'm sorry." She decided to admit her mistake first.

It was always good to be proactive and to have a good attitude.

"Why are you apologizing?" Liam was really a little surprised to hear it.

"I neglected you when I was chasing after Adrian just now. I shouldn't have been so close to other men."

Liam started the car, and he was a little taken aback to hear that. He tilted his head to look at Maria before he took off his sunglasses. "So, do you think that I am mad?"

"It doesn't matter if you're mad or not, I'm just sorry about it." Maria's tone was very sincere. "Adrian said earlier that my eye circles were either from lack of sleep or too much sex, so I hit him."
