The Twin Alphas’ Fated Mate -
Fated to a Fae Chapter 2
~Selenia~
As I'm walking through the forest this beautiful morning, I feel the wind drift through my hair. I have it all down today. I usually keep half of it up and out of my face since it's so long. It falls past my hips, almost touching my thighs. I move around the forest floor with my bare feet, unbothered by the rocks and twigs. I'm used to it by now. I never wear shoes. I feel better without them. Closer to the Earth. My magic feels stronger when I'm directly touching the source of where it comes from.
We have visitors coming today. I heard they're werewolves from the nearby pack. Red River pack. The biggest, most powerful pack in the country and their alpha is visiting us? Either we did something wrong that pissed him off, or Laurel is planning something. I just hope he's not sending a girl off to live with them. He does that a lot with other fae villages. They come to visit and when they leave, a girl is taken with them. Usually an arranged marriage situation. I've never actually met a werewolf, but apparently, they're cruel and vicious. At least that's what Laurel tells us. We don't leave our village. Ever. But Laurel said he has come in contact with werewolves before and all they do is kill people in their way. Even their own kind. Sometimes I feel like he exaggerates. Why would he invite these horrible creatures to our village if they're so cruel? And why are they coming? I just don't get it.
I hope I'll be able to meet them. Then I'll be able to see for myself if they're really as bad as Laurel says. My gift will tell me. I was blessed by Mother Earth with a special gift. Not all fae get them. I'm able to see a person's true nature just by looking at them. If someone is lying to me, I can feel it. If someone is being their true self and is honest, I can feel it. If the werewolves come and say they're here for a good reason, I'll be able to see if that's true or not. I'll be able to feel if they have malicious intent or if they are truly good people. I hope they are. It'd be cool to have friends from another species.
As I'm walking, I hear the trees above me move and I look up. Someone jumps and lands softly next to me. That's one good thing about being able to fly as a fae. You can jump from anywhere and land on your feet.
I look up to see my best friend standing next to me. He has his warrior suit on. He must have just got off duty.
"Hello, Reef." I say, smiling at him. Reef flashes me his big smile.
"Hello, Selenia. How are you today?" Reef asks me.
"I'm good. Just making sure the flowers look good for our visitors today. How exciting that we'll have werewolves in our village?!" I ask him. He just smiles at me.
"And what if they're scary and mean?" Reef asks. I shrug.
"Then at least we know. I want to meet them." I tell him.
"You will. Laurel has asked that you be there when they show up so that you can use your gift on them. He wants to know if what they say is true." Reef tells me. My eyes light up.
"Really?! I get to be one of the first people to meet them?!" I squeal and jump into Reef's arms. He holds me tight to him. I feel guilt coming off of him. That's not normal. "Reef, what's wrong? Did something happen?" I ask.
Reef lets go of me and steps back. He scratches the back of his neck and sighs. "Laurel asked me today if I was interested in marrying you."
I gasp. I've been dreading this day. Most girls my age are already married. It's not normal to be 19 and still unmarried in the fae community. But I've been putting it off as long as I could, turning down every guy who has even looked like they want to get married. I don't know why, I just felt like I had to. But if Laurel is asking, that means he's planning on arranging my marriage. Crap.
"What did you say?" I ask quietly. Reef looks down at his feet.
"You're my best friend. I see you as my sister, not my wife. I can never imagine us being married. So I told him no. But he just seemed more pleased after that. I think he was only asking to give me a chance to take you for myself before he gave you to someone else." Reef tells me.
"Why do you think that?" I ask.
"Because he said someone has expressed interest in you and he has yet to give them an answer." Reef says. My jaw drops.
"But how? How do they know who I am? Who is it?"
Reef sighs and looks at me. I can feel the guilt and the pity coming off him in waves. It's making me more and more nervous. "It's Sear Darkvale."
I go numb. This can't be happening. Sear Darkvale is the leader of the Southern Fire Fae Tribe. He's feared among the fae kind. He's young for a tribe leader, being only 26, but he has been making a name for himself for the past few years. He's dark and brutal. He takes what he wants and uses his magic however he wants, even if there are consequences. How does he know about me? Has he been spying on me? What does he want?
"Selenia." Reef calls to me. I look at him. He wipes my face, removing the tears from my cheeks that I didn't even know were there. "I should've told him I wanted to marry you. It would've saved you all this trouble."
"Why does he want me?" I ask.
"I assume your power and your name. Selenia Greythorn. You are probably the only Greythorn left." Reef says.
Greythorns have been known to be very powerful Earth fae. They used their power for good, helping the Earth thrive in many ways. Lots of my ancestors had special powers like me, all of them different. Years ago, someone from the Western Fire Tribe hunted down and killed most of my family. We were pretty spread out in lots of different tribes and villages. My parents and grandparents were also killed. They didn't know I existed. I wasn't home, so they left and I haven't had any trouble since. I was 11 when that happened.
Just then, Newt, one of the kids in our village, comes running up to us. He's really sweet. He's only 12 years old. He loves to hang around Reef and I and tells us about his lessons and how he's going to grow up to be a warrior like Reef.
"Miss Selenia! Laurel has summoned you! Our visitors are here!" Newt calls to me. I wipe my face and stand up straight.
"Time to go meet some werewolves." I say. Reef smiles and holds out his hand. I take it and we head back to the village.
~Blake~
Sunrise came and I was standing outside with Max, Kaden, Devin, Atlas and Silas. Max was annoyed that Rhett hasn't shown up yet and was getting impatient.
"Where the hell is he?" Max growls. I sigh.
"Probably still sleeping." I say.
"Does she stay the night with him?" Kaden asks, meaning Nicole.
"Usually, yeah." I tell them.
"She probably kept him up late last night." Devin mutters. I look over at Max.
"Do you want me to go get him?" I ask.
"No. Forget it. If he wants to do this, he doesn't get to come. We've been waiting for almost half an hour for him and nothing. We can't even reach him by phone or mind-link. I didn't want to let you guys come because this is serious. This is Silas's life we're talking about and Mom chewed me out for three hours about telling you guys you could come. And this is what he does?! Screw him, he doesn't get to come." Max says, turning away and facing the forest. I look over at Kaden. He just shrugs in agreement. Rhett is going to be pissed we left without him, but this is what happens when you let girls like Nicole take up all your time.
"Are we ready to go then?" Silas asks. The fae have asked that he doesn't use his magic, so he is riding on Devin's back.
"Yep, let's go." Max says as he strips off his shorts and shirt. He shifts into his wolf, Rosco, and turns to wait for us. I shift as well and see Galahad and Tyson standing in front of me. Silas lifts himself onto Tyson's back with the bag of our clothes and Max mind-links us to follow him. I look back at the packhouse once more before turning and taking off after the group. After an hour, Max slows down as a scent we've never come across gets closer. It must be the fae. The forest is beautiful here. Everything is so vibrant. I guess that's what happens when you're an Earth fae. You take care of the Earth.
We come into view of a wall made of wood. There are people standing in front of it. Max stops and we all shift back. We quickly get changed and start towards the people. They look to be wearing some sort of armour made of leather. Maybe they're warriors?
"State your business, wolf." One of the fae men say. Max's jaw ticks, but he steps closer.
"Alpha Maxton Anderson of Red River pack. We've been invited by Laurel Silkbell." Max says. The fae man nods and motions for us to follow him. We walk in behind him. I look around the village. It's bigger than I thought. There are rows and rows of cottages. They have gardens and animals in pens. There are lots of people out and they've stopped to watch us. I guess most of them have never come in contact with a werewolf. They feel just like we do right now. The fae man leads us to a large cottage. This must be where the leader stays. It's the biggest cottage here. He opens the door and starts up the stairs. We all follow and I start to smell something really good. It's like honeydew and rain. I look around but I don't see the source of the smell. I turn back and follow everyone.
We come to a door and the fae man knocks. We hear a voice call for us to come in and the fae man opens the door. Inside sits an older man in his late 50s. He smiles at us as we enter the
room.
"Hello. I'm Laurel Silkbell, leader of the Eastern Earth Tribe. I'm pleased to meet you all." He holds out his hand for Max to take. Max does and he introduces us.
"Alpha Maxton Anderson. I'm the one who contacted you. This is Beta Kaden Anderson, Gamma
Devin Joyner, two of my warriors, Blake Anderson and Atlas Rinre, and this is our warlock friend, Silas." Max says to him.
"Most of you have the same last name. Sounds like you're all family. Looks like it, too." Laurel says, pointing out the fact Max, Kaden and I all look the same. If only Rhett and our dads were here. He'd think we're all the same person.
"A pack is a family. I'm sure the same can be said for your village. But if you're taking about blood relatives, Kaden and Blake are my brothers." Max says. Laurel chuckles.
"Yes, I like to think our village is one big family. Was the journey here easy enough?" Laurel
asks.
"Yes, we found it fine." Max says. Laurel nods and turns to Silas.
"It's nice to meet you, Silas. Alpha Maxton speaks very highly of you." Laurel says, holding his
hand out to Silas. Silas happily takes it and shakes.
"Well, I'd hope so. I've saved his life and a few of his family members." Silas says. I chuckle.
Laurel turns to me.
"Is something funny?" He asks me. Max glares at me.
"No, it's not that it's funny. Silas is a very dear friend of our family. Our other brother, Rhett, is my twin. He is the other person Silas saved. He unfortunately couldn't be here today, but he loves to tell the story of how he was dead for two whole days and Silas brought him back." I
say. Laurel's eyes go wide.
"You brought someone back from the dead?" Laurel's face is pale.
"Uh, no. The child was not technically dead. He was dying when I found him and I simply put him in a very deep coma and slowed his breathing down to make it seem like he was dead. Blake here was leep when I did it and woke to find Rhett in the state he was. To them, he dead. They cried real tears for the loss of their brother. Even their parents believed he was dead. Until I came back and let them in on the truth." Silas explains.
"Why would you do such a thing? The suffering you put this family though!" Laurel looks appalled. Crap, I didn't think this would happen. I glance at Atlas.
Just then, a knock on the door interrupts us and two people walk in. Another warrior comes in
with a girl. I look at her and I freeze. She's the most beautiful thing I've seen in my entire life. Her skin is pale but soft looking, she has a bit of pink in her cheeks. Her ginger hair falls down past her hips. She's wearing a light green sundress that shows off each of her curves. She's barefoot and has a small bag wrapped around her waist. She smells like honeydew and rain. It was her I smelt before. We lock eyes and she gasps. Flynn is doing laps in my head, freaking
out at me to go to her.
"Mate! Mate! That's our mate! Go to mate!" Flynn yips in my head. I can't even find words right
now. Rhett isn't here. But our mate is. Right in front of me. And she's this beautiful fae goddess
of a woman.
She looks away from me and walks over to Laurel. She clears her throat.
"You requested to see me, Laurel?" The girl says. Her voice is like honey. So smooth and soft.
My knees feel weak. I want to go to her, but she seems to want me to stay away. Can she feel what I feel?
"Yes, Selania. These are our guests. The werewolves from Red River I was telling you about. I'm sorry for the interruption, Silas. You can continue your story about why you almost killed a kid." Laurel says. Her name is Selenia? Silas sighs.
"I didn't almost kill him. Rhett, Blake and a girl named Aubrey were kidnapped by some very bad people. They hired me to help them and fed me lies about what they were actually up to. I
him
thought they were saving these kids from the bad people, but when I figured it out, they had already injected Rhett with a lethal dose of wolfbane. They knew he was dying, so I saved and made it look like he was dead to the bad people didn't suspect me while I figured out how to help the kids. They separated Aubrey from the twins, so I needed them to believe I was still on their side so that I knew where they were taking her. Once they were safely back in their
pack, I lifted the spell and woke him up." Silas explains to him. Laurel looks at Silas for a moment before turning to Selania. She nods and Laurel smiles.
"Well, that makes you a hero, then. I'm very glad they had you." Laurel says. Silas smirks at Laurel and points to Selenia.
"She has a gift, doesn't she?" Silas asks. Laural smiles.
"You catch on quickly. Yes, Selenia here has a gift. She was born with the ability to see a
person's true nature. She can feel your emotions and can tell if you are lying or telling the truth just by looking at you. She confirmed your story is true." Laurel says. She can feel emotions? Like mates do when their marked? I wonder if she felt the mate bond through me
when she looked at me.
I look over at Atlas and he looks uncomfortable. He's breathing heavily and keeping his eyes on the floor. What's with him?
