Fate of the Forsaken Brother Chapter 14

After Aubrey and I eat, we meet up with Max and Devin. Devin filled us in on what happened with Penny and Max. I will talk to him when we get home. There are a lot of people around now and it's still fresh.

Aubrey will be riding with us. She packed a suitcase with essentials and things she needs right away, but her mom said she'd come to our pack next week with the rest of her stuff. Devin said Kai is bringing most of his stuff in his own car. Everything else, Kai's parents are taking.

Once everyone is packed up in the car, we head out. Max is driving, Devin is sitting in the passenger seat, and Aubrey and I are in the back. I never asked Devin why he isn't riding with Kai, but I'm not complaining since it gives me an excuse to be close to Aubrey. I can't wait to introduce her to my brothers and Mercury. I think they'll like her. Mercury is going to go insane. She says there are too many boys in our family. Having two twin mates, twin sons, and also Max and I are basically twins and we drag Devin everywhere, Mercury has always been surrounded by guys. She'll be happy to have another girl around. Mercury does have her girlfriends, but they can't always be around.

It takes us a little over two hours to get back to Red River. I feel like we've been gone for months with how much that has happened, but we were only gone for the night.

When we finally pull up in front of the packhouse, I feel relieved to be back. I've never felt like that before being here, but so much has happened, it's crazy. Devin is the first one to jump out. Kai was behind us the whole time so he pulls up his car just as we are. Devin rushes over to him to pull him in for a hug. Two hours apart really wound him up. I wonder if Aubrey and I will be like that when we mark each other.

The rest of us get out of the car and start bringing our stuff inside. I carry Aubrey's bag along with my own, up to my room. Our room now, I guess. Once I get to the door, I realize I never asked Aubrey if she wanted to sleep with me. I turn to her.

"Um, so this is my room. Do you want this to also be your room?" I ask. Goddess, she must think I'm a total loser. Why did I say it like that? But Aubrey just giggles.

"I would love to share the room with you." Aubrey says, smiling at me. "You know, you're cute when you get awkward like that."

I let out a breathy laugh. She thinks I'm cute.

"What do you mean, awkward?" I ask.

"Like you've never talked to a girl before." Aubrey says. I look down at my feet.

"Well, I haven't. Not really. When I was a kid, I stuck by Max and he talked enough for the both of us. When Max left, Devin and I were homeschooled because of how bad the bullying was. When I met Jaclyn, all I said to her was that I accepted her rejection and that was it. The only women I've actually had a conversation with are Mercury and Devin's mom, Paige." I say.

"Who's Mercury?" Aubrey asks. Her body goes kind of rigid. She thinks Mercury is a friend and is jealous. I smile.

"Mercury is Max's mom. She raised me too, so she's kind of like my mom too, even though she's technically my sister-in-law. Our family is strange, but you'll get used to it." I chuckle. Aubrey furrows her eyebrows.

"Okay, so you're not actually Maxton's brother?" Aubrey asks. I smile.

"Let me sort of explain how this family...works I guess is the right way to put it. So Alpha Elliot and Arthur are twins. They're mated to Mercury. Elliot and Arthur banished their father, Garret, for trying to kill Arthur after they look over the pack. Their mother went with him. But she was killed by Garret and Garret found a new mate. Her name was Tonya. Garret got her pregnant and I popped out. So, Elliot, Arthur, and I all have the same father, but I have a different mother. Mercury was pregnant with Max when they brought me back here to this pack. I was 2 months old. Max was born a few months before I turned 1 and Mercury, Elliot and Arthur raised the both of us as brothers. Once we could understand everything, they told us why Max called them mom and dad, but I called them by their names. I subconsciously thought they just didn't like me, so it made so much sense when I found out they weren't my parents. I guess it would've been weird to call my brothers 'dad'. But they're the only father figures I've ever had and Mercury always tells me she loves me just as much as she loves Max. She says she has four children, not three. I think she says that to make me feel a part of the family, but I've never felt any different. They are my parents, and Max is my brother, even if others don't think so." I explain to Aubrey. She was nodding along the whole time, trying to understand.

"Okay, I think I got it all. But you lost me on the 'four children' part. Do you have more siblings?" Aubrey asks. I smile.

"Yes, Rhett and Blake are twins. They're 13 and a pain in the a*s." I say, laughing.

"Wow, lots of boys in the family." Aubrey says, laughing.

"Oh yeah. Mercury's going to go crazy when she hears about you. She'll probably steal you away from me for a week." I say. Aubrey laughs but stops when she sees my face.

"Oh, you're serious." Aubrey says.

"She's been waiting for another girl in the family since the twins were born. She will hound you." I laugh again.

"I can't wait to meet her." Aubrey says, smiling. Just then, Elliot comes through the mind-link.

"I heard you three are back. Please meet me in my office, we have some things to discuss." Elliot says and cuts the link. He said that to Max, Devin and I. But he didn't say anything about our mates. They must not know they're here yet. I decide mind-link Devin.

"Are you bringing Kai?" I ask.

"I was going to. They're here and the alphas should meet them. I think they'd be pissed if we didn't." Devin says.

"You're right. See you there." I say and cut the link. I turn back to Aubrey.

"Sorry, Elliot has summoned Max, Devin and I to his office. I'm not sure why, but you should come so he can meet you. Kai will be there too, with Devin." I say. Aubrey nods and we head to Elliot's office. Once there, Max, Devin and Kai are also just getting there.

"What do you think this is about?" Devin asks.

"Could be multiple things. Maybe Penny, maybe Kaden." Max says. How would they find out about what happened with me unless Max already told them? I give him a look. "I didn't tell them. But maybe they heard some strange alpha pulled you aside." Max shrugs and I nod.

"What alpha? Does he mean that guy that asked to speak to you when we were dancing?" Aubrey asks. Crap, I forgot I hadn't told her about Jerald yet.

"Uh, yeah. I'm sorry, I haven't had the chance to tell you about what he said. I was really pissed off after I left him and then I met your parents this morning." I say.

"It's okay. You can tell me later when you're ready." Aubrey smiles at me. Goddess, she's so perfect. Max knocks on the office door and opens the door.

"Hello, Alphas." Max nods his head. He doesn't usually act so formal, but Aubrey and Kai are here and are new, so he's leading by example. Devin and I bow slightly. Kai and Aubrey follow our lead and bow as well.

"Welcome back, Alpha Maxton. Beta Kaden, Gamma Devin." Elliot nods to us. Arthur is eyeing Kai and Aubrey from where he's sitting on the couch beside us, but he doesn't look mad. That's a good sign. He's usually the angry one.

"And who might you two be?" Arthur asks, standing up. Kai steps up first, making Devin smile.

"Hello, Alpha Arthur. My name is Kai Miller. I was the head warrior in Silver Lake pack and was Alpha Austen's personal guard. I am here now because this weekend, I discovered Gamma Devin is my mate." Kai introduces himself to Arthur. Arthur's eyebrow goes up and he glances at Elliot. Elliot gives a small shrug. They didn't know Devin was gay, so they're probably shocked. "Welcome to Red River, Kai. Head warrior, huh? I'm sure we can find a suitable place for you in our ranks." Arthur says and holds out his hand for Kai to shake. He takes it and steps back to

Devin.

"Congratulations Devin. This is...unexpected." Elliot says, looking at Devin with a smirk.

"Thanks. It was unexpected for me as well, but I'm sure that's not what you were talking about." Devin's face goes red and Max speaks up.

"We knew Devin was gay, but it wasn't our place to tell you." Max says.

"Did not see that coming." Elliot chuckles.

"Then you must be blind, brother. Cause I did." Arthur crosses his arms.

"What?" Devin asks quietly. Arthur looks at him.

"When you're not with my sons, you're with Ned and Caleb." Arthur states.

"Right." Devin blushes and Kai looks at Devin questioningly. Devin must not have told him about Ned and Caleb yet. Arthur looks over to Aubrey and I nod to her, assuring her.

"Hello, Alpha. I'm Aubrey Pierce. I'm also from Silver Lake pack. My father is Beta Marlo. He was Alpha Duncan's beta before stepping down. My brother, Andrew, is Alpha Austen's beta."Aubrey

says.

"And you are mated to Kaden, I presume?" Arthur asks.

"Yes, I am." Aubrey nods.

"What was your roll in your pack?" Elliot asks.

"I was studying to be a nurse in the pack clinic." Aubrey says. I actually didn't know that.

"Well, I'm sure our pack doctor, Suzi, would love to have you." Elliot says with a small smile. Suzi took over for Jane a few years ago. Suzi was actually there when Arthur was stabbed that day Mercury saved me. Mercury just didn't know who Suzi was yet. Suzi ended up being Beck's mate. Sylvie was so happy to have a sister. Mercury told me all about it.

"Thank you." Aubrey says. Elliot nods before turning back to Arthur. His eyes go cloudy before Arthur nods and leaves the room.

"Now, I need to discuss something with the three of you. Devin, Kaden, I understand you want

to spend time with your mates and I appreciate you bringing them here to meet Arthur and I, but this meeting only regards you three. Arthur has gone to get Luna Mercury. She can show them around while we talk." Elliot says, standing up. I look at Aubrey and smirk. Just then, the

door opens and Mercury comes flying in.

"Who got mated?! I need to know now!" Mercury yells loudly.

"Mom, relax. We're standing right here." Max says.

"You hush. Oh my god, Devin!" Mercury looks at Kai then back at Devin. "I knew it." Mercury smiles before going over to hug Kai. Kai looks shocked at first but hugs her back.

"Yeah, she's a hugger. Shoulda warned you." Devin says.

"Welcome to the family." Mercury says to Kai before turning to Aubrey. I grab her hand tightly. A

big smile breaks out on Mercury's face.

"Yay, another girl! There's too many boys around, I'm so happy right now!" Mercury hugs Aubrey

before grabbing her free hand. "I have so much to tell you about Kaden! Come on, I'll show you two around." Mercury says.

"You are going to give her back, right?" I ask Mercury. She turns to me and narrows her eyes.

"You'll get her back when I'm done." Mercury says and leads them out of the room. Aubrey

smiles at me before the door shuts. I look over at Max and Devin.

"I'm never going to see Aubrey again, am I?" I ask.

"Nope." Max says. "Nuh-uh. Sorry man. Mercury's got her now." Devin says. I sigh and Elliot clears his throat.

"Alright, boys. Let's get to the meeting, shall we?"
