ROSE'S

POV

Can we talk about the way he stared at me?

For a minute, I felt like I was walking down the aisle to perform the werewolf kind of wedding where I would be officially and traditionally tied with the one man that gazed at me with indescribable but passionate emotions. Alpha King Josh's hot gaze on me had Emily saying, "He wants you badly."

Emily had helped me freshen up, clean my hair, and arrange the new clothes in the walk-in closet of the room that had obviously become my room whether I liked it or not- but I liked it.

I liked the way I was being treated like a fragile flower here unlike how Irene and her son used to treat me.

"He doesn't, Emily. He is simply an Alpha King that cares about his subjects. I am not any different."

I responded to Emily.

Emily scoffed and waved her hand as she retorted, "Anything you say, Rose."

Cali grumbled, "I thought he would have drowned himself or something."

However, Beta Adam seemed quite comfortable regardless of my wolf and my feelings. I didn't smile back at him. I kept a straight face until Alpha King Josh did the unthinkable. He rose from his seat and pulled a seat out for me.

I stuttered, "Y-you do-don't h-have to-"

"Just sit down, Rose. this is the least I can do after all that happened yesterday." Alpha King Josh insisted and Emily made faces at me as I sat beside the Alpha King's seat and opposite Adam.

Emily announced, "I will take my leave now, My King. Thank you for trusting me with-"

"You should also join us for breakfast, Emily. Your clothing store wouldn't disappear while you eat with me."

Alpha King Josh invited Emily for breakfast and unlike how he held the chair out for me, he returned to his seat only gesturing towards an empty seat for Emily to sit. Emily sing-song, "You see he cares about us all but he doesn't treat us all like his queen." I countered, "He doesn't treat me like his queen, Emily. Drop it."

Besides, I got to know that Emily was a fashion expert that owns a clothing store where she made people gorgeous and shining.

Emily smirked, "I didn't say you were the one he treats like a queen... seems you figured it out yourself. You aren't as clueless as you let on."

I facepalmed mentally. I had proven her point for her and while she murmured Alpha King Josh and Adam acted like they didn't hear the conversation which made it more embarrassing.

Cali on the other hand was having a good time except she didn't want to stare at Beta Adam's face. She claimed that staring at him reminded her of how he injected her last night.... Or earlier today... I wasn't sure of the time.

"Thank you for inviting me to breakfast, My King. it's an honor to eat at the same table as the great Alpha King Of the Northern Territory."

Emily chimed and bowed again, causing Alpha King Josh to shift his gaze to her. Alpha King Josh told Emily to stop flattering him just as the kitchen staff strolled into the dining hall elegantly and with trays that carried tasty delicacies.

My stomach grumbled, reminding me that the last time I ate was over twenty-four hours ago.

Breakfast was served and I shamelessly helped myself.

Beta Adam's voice rang, "You might want to chew more, Rose. We do not want you choking on-"

"Mind your business, Adam." I retorted with a full mouth, stunning him and others at the table when I called him by his name. I could call him Adam all I wanted...he was a Beta and I had Alpha blood running in my veins. Plus he almost killed me so I earned this. "If you had minded your business, you wouldn't have almost killed me while I was doing nothing but going to my room."

I was annoyed... yes.

"You called me Adam?"

Beta Adam muttered with disbelief.

I rolled my eyes, "So? I believe I earned that the moment you stick a needle in my neck and leave me alone, please."

Beta Adam growled when Alpha King kept eating his meal like he didn't hear us arguing. I smirked at Adam and maintain eye contact with him as I sipped the cold juice in my glass.

Cali etched, "With the situation, we shouldn't be making enemies but I don't like him after he injected me."

Of course, she was talking about Adam.

I obviously needed to keep a low profile if I intend to beat Alpha Richard at his own game like I decided when I was showering but I also intend to enjoy this. I didn't know who to trust yet and Beta Adam had proven that he shouldn't be trusted by me. As I thought about how to play Alpha Richard and also find out what Alpha King Josh's true intentions were, Emily broke the silence that was helping me think when she announced that she had to leave.

"You haven't finished breakfast though. Why the hurry?"

Alpha King Josh asked with concern.

Emily answered, "I received a text just now, My King. I have an important customer waiting for me in my store. I can't keep her waiting."

The Alpha King excused Emily and I bid her farewell as well.

"I think I should have your contact number, Rose." Emily said to me. She stretched her cell phone to me, saying I should input my number.

But I bit my lips as I said, "I don't have a cell phone yet, Emily. I will pay you a visit in your store soon though."

I promised Emily even though I knew there was a high chance that I wouldn't go to Emily's store because she knew how to embarrass and annoy me.... In a good way. Although Cali seemed to like her a lot. "Such an oldie, Rose. get yourself a cell phone and make sure you contact me or I will hunt you down."

Emily stated jokingly but she somehow reminded me of Alpha Richard's letter which was still somewhere under my bed.

"Why do you look like you have seen a ghost?" Emily chirped, snapping me out of my thought. "I am not actually planning to hunt you, Rose."

Of course. I thought to myself and smiled at Emily.

"I will contact you sooner than later, Hunter Emily." I joked and laughed with Emily before she left the dining hall rushing to her store.

Strangely, I lost my appetite after Emily left and Cali teased me, "You like her too but you keep pretending..."

Ignoring my wolf beast, I started picking at my food and mindlessly gaze at Beta Adam. In the real sense, I wasn't seeing him. I was staring into space as I thought back to Alpha Richard and my unplanned plan to beat him and the oath. Plus, I still didn't know what to do with the Alpha King that had claimed me as his girlfriend.

Honestly, I was scared he would mess me up and ruin me more if I let him in. I mean if I wanted to stand a chance against Alpha Richard, I would need Alpha King Josh on my side.

Just to be clear, to hell with my dad. I could no longer bring myself to care. Although I would still try to get back the pack from Alpha Richard, I was done going about this his way.

It was time to walk down Rose's path... my way would be the way henceforth.

Beta Adam's voice p[eirced through my thick daze, broke it, and snapped me out of it as he mumbled, "Are you thinking of the best way to kill me with your cutlery?" He faked a gasp, earning himself a glare from me. "How do I tell you I am sorry, Rose? You can't keep-"

"My life doesn't revolve around you, Beta Adam and if it makes you feel better, I have accepted your apology. And I am not plotting your death." I chimed and added wickedly, "At least not yet."

Beta Adam's jaw dropped, nearly hitting the table.

Alpha King Josh decided to step in this time, saving his Beta From me and also rescuing me from further bickering with his annoying Beta.

"Don't you have a meeting to attend, Adam? It's high time you left."

Alpha King Josh conveyed to his Beta who got the message and got dumbfounded. "I am not done with breakfast, My King." Beta Adam argued.

However, Alpha King Josh stated, "Take your leave now, Adam. I will be expecting a report soon."

Beta Adam glared at me again before strolling out of the dining hall, passing a different exit from the one Emily took.

The second Beta Adam slammed the door close, Alpha King Josh, voiced, "So it's just you and me now, Rose."

Instantly, I turned into a puddle of water if that was even possible... it was as if I passed through an evaporation process just with his voice hitting my eardrums.

I should avoid being alone with him... at all costs.

To get away from him, I uttered, "I am done eating. I will be in my room-"

But he interjected, "Take a walk with me, Rose."

My neck did a slow turn to bring my face to him with the word "No" on my tongue but Alpha King Josh stunned me when he added, "Please."

Now how do I say no to his charming face and alluring dark eyes...

"Alright."

So much for staying away from him.
