The Twin Alphas’ Fated Mate -
Chapter 34
ALPHA KING JOSH'S POV
Tamira's discomfort around me didn't go unnoticed. It must have something to do with how I spoke to her the other day.
Max chimed, "She should know better."
I didn't quite understand what my wolf beast was trying to say. I shrugged and started strolling to my dining hall to wait for Rose's arrival. Unfortunately, My Beta walked up to me with a facial expression that I knew too well.
"I am not in the mood for whatever it is you have been cooking in your head, Adam. Please stay away from me." I blurted before Adam could reach me. However, he stubbornly followed me to the dining hall.
Adam stated as I sat down on my regular chair which was at the head of the dining table. "I know you are mad at me for almost killing her but that wasn't my intention, My King. I was simply trying to protect your home while you were out searching for-" "For someone you suspect even more than who you thought you captured but she turned out to be the same person. See the irony of that, Adam." I completed Adam's statement with my own thoughts.
My Beta shook his head and braced himself to continue his self-defense speech. I sighed, interrupting him, "I don't want to hear it, Adam, and you shouldn't be explaining to me. Talk to the victim of your misjudgment. She will be here before you know it." "But you are also mad at me, My King. I don't want one mistake to ruin our relationship."
Adam declared his worries emotionally, causing me to roll my eyes.
"Forgive me, Alpha King Josh."
My Beta eventually apologized. I didn't care much about his apology and I didn't know his apology would have an effect on me until he let it out.
I sighed again but this time, I opened my heart to Adam. "I am scared, Adam." I began this way with a low tone that must have scared my Beta.
"What are you scared of? You have never been frightened, not even when your brothers came at you. So what could be causing this change within you?"
My Beta queried, pulling a seat out for himself.
I answered, "The question is who?" Adam's eyebrows quirked instantaneously as he understood me instantly.
"I am terrified she will leave. I am afraid Alpha Richard would walk in here and try to claim her. I am scared of what I would do to protect her. What length I would go just to keep her safe and make her mine."
I confessed my fear.
I continued without taking my eyes off Adam's stunned orbs, "I don't know why, Adam but I feel so much for that tiny female. I am convinced she is my destined mate, in fact but I still can't explain the theory. And she won't tell me anything about her relationship with Alpha Richard or her background."
Silence settled between My Beta and me for some minutes. I was letting my fears and emotions from last night sink within me. I was coming to terms with the strange and unexplainable feelings Rose ignited within my soul and body.
"I didn't know it was like this, My King. Seeing her with you and watching you touch her without reacting allergically made me hopeful, to be honest. I should have paid more attention, My King, and henceforth, I will help you investigate everything." Adam assured me. He promised to get answers for me and he added, "I will never poison her again... Unless I have to."
I barked, "Don't even think about it or I will kill you Myself."
"I was just kidding!" Adam exclaimed, laughing hard while I glared at him. "I will be happy if she can take you back to your happy self that I once knew. I will be grateful if she is actually your destined mate."
"Don't try to make me emotional, Adam." I rebuked him but smiled at him. I would be happier too if Rose happened to be my destined mate but even if she isn't, I would still keep her for myself.
"Enough about Rose. Tell me about the spies I told you to arrange."
I switched our means of communication immediately, connecting to Adam's mind to keep our conversation a secret. The walls have ears after all.
Adam responded through the mind link as well, "I have found a group of skilled spies, My King. I was supposed to tell you yesterday but the day wasn't exactly a good one." "Whose fault is that?" I etched.
Adam raised his hand in defeat, "It's not mine." I eyed him as he smirked and went back to telling me about the spies he found. "They work together as a group and belong to an organization that we can trust. We can hire four of them since we will be needing one in each territory that your brothers rule."
I hummed, liking the idea my Beta presented before me, but added, "What if we hire five of them? I will need a spy in Alpha Richard's pack. I can smell something fishy rolling off him even though he is far from me."
Adam agreed. I hoped that Rose wouldn't have anything to do with whatever Alpha Richard was up to.
Max pointed out, "Why will she have anything to do with that when she is here and barely escaped death? Alpha Richard must have tried to kill her because he needed to get rid of obstacles in his way... But on his way to what?"
I wished I could answer that question.
"I will do that, My King." Adam stated. "Will you like to meet them before I send them off to the locations?"
I responded, "I think I should meet with them all before they plant themselves. They need to know the assignments they are to carry out there."
"Alright. I will set up a meeting, My King."
Adam let out but my attention and focus already shifted from him to the damsel approaching the dining hall in a simple black dress.
She was simply dressed yet she captured all of me at that moment.
And I drooled and craved her.
Damn! I was hungry. Hungry for Rose.
