ALPHA KING JOSH'S POV

"Is she planning to have the meeting out there?"

Max muttered impatiently. Although my wolf beast was being extra dramatic, I also was impatient. I have been leaning behind the reading table ever since she and her so-called mate drive into my compound.

I have been waiting to inhale her scent... which I have missed.

I have been craving to see her and have her beautiful self in my presence. She was the reason for the meeting. My obsession with her was driving me nuts. For someone who hasn't been with any woman in years, getting obsessed with the first woman that I could touch and f**k without getting sick, wasn't an option.

It was a necessity.

"You can smell her hesitation, can't you? She probably doesn't want to be in the same room alone with me."

I responded just as the doorknob turned. The door opened slowly but her scent slipped through the space, rushing to colonize my senses.

Rose's flushed face was revealed to me after she entered my library and I openly ogled her. I would have done everything to see her yesterday instead of canceling the appointment I had with her and Richard- a man I wished would disappear. However, I had to visit the western territory with Adam yesterday. The visit was needed and couldn't be delayed. It pained me that I had to cancel but imagine my joy when Alpha Richard called to fix another appointment.

Max etched, "You would have called him if he didn't call."

That was so true.

"Greetings, Alpha King."

Rose's shaky voice reached my ears. It was hard not to think back to how she sounded when she moaned. My d*ck twitched when the thought of how she moaned my name crossed my mind. Heck!

I inhaled deeply and took advantage of her nervousness to pull myself together. "Have a seat, Rose," I uttered with a voice that expressed nothing about the current s****l tension zapping through my body.

Rose countered with a hushed tone, "I think sitting is unnecessary, My King. This is Alpha Richard's plan." She dropped the printed document on my desk and took three steps away from me as she added, "You can check it, Alpha King." "Are you scared of me?" I blurted out.

Rose bite her lips and her eyes shifted from one bookshelf to another. I could tell she was judging my library as I waited for her to respond.

"Do I make you nervous or are your panties wet just because you are in proximity to me?"

I asked unapologetically and smirked when Rose's wandering green eyes cut to my face instantly. She was bad at hiding her thoughts. I could see her shifting from one leg to another while tightening her lap.

I licked my lips and spoke again before Rose could, "Forget about the plan and sit with me, Rose."

"That's impossible, My King. I am here for the plan. Nothing but the plan."

Rose argued.

"And I said you shouldn't worry about the plan and take the damn seat!" I barked. Her defying actions and words didn't sit well with my skyrocketing emotions.

Despite my tone and rising anger, Rose took another step backward and I hissed. If she wasn't going to sit down or come to me, I might as well rise from my seat and go to her. I rose, pushing against the reading desk and walking to Rose who was obviously trembling.

Every step I took was perceived as a threat by the woman that made my blood boil without touching me.

Max chimed, "I swear to you, Josh, there is something about her that is so peculiar and satisfying."

This wasn't the first time my wolf beast would say something like that. Even I could tell that something was pulling me to Rose even though she was mated to another. Although as the Alpha King, I should respect bonds, however, I could also break and create new bonds as the Alpha King.

And damn did I want to break the bond between Rose and that good-for-nothing Alpha that doesn't know how to treat her right.

One look at them and I could tell he wasn't perfect for her... but she was perfect for me.

"Look at your face. Have you been sleeping well as a beauty as you should?"

I was cheeky but I couldn't help it as I took more steps closer to Rose... well I would have gotten closer if she wasn't taking steps backward just to escape me.

Rose stuttered, fighting to balance herself. "Huh..."

"Alpha Richard is no good for you, is he? Has he been taking care of you?" I queried like a force. A force ready to break barriers and a particular bond.

"What are you talking about, Alpha King? Does Alpha Richard have anything to do with the review that you are supposed to carry out? Does my relationship with my mate have anything to do with the pack's business-"

I hissed, cutting Rose off confidently, "Yes!" Her eyes widened as her back hit the door and I added, "Everything revolves around you now, Rose. if not, Your so-called mate and his pack wouldn't have had a chance with me! Not even his project would reach me." I said those words into her face.

She must have thought I was stupid. I mean, why else would she sneakily move her hand to the doorknob, thinking I wouldn't notice?

Rose's eyes widened when I grabbed her shoulders and easily moved her body from the door pushing her against the closest wall. The fast rise and fall of her chest and the addicting rush of her scent made me throw my head forward, resting on her shoulder. "You have once again cornered me, Alpha King Josh-"

I interjected, "Call me Josh. I want to hear you say my name."

I let my scent carry my desire for the tiny woman whose scent I was basking in and I let her feel my want by pressing my erection against her thighs. Sensing my desire for her, Rose pressed her soft hand against my chest and tried to push me away but I didn't budge.

"Please, Alpha King." Rose uttered curtly, "As I said two nights ago, we are even. I do not owe you anymore so kindly refrain from acting on your current emotions. If you do, I would no longer b able to address you politely."

I chuckled. She has got to be kidding me.

Retreating slowly, I said, "You knew I would make advances toward you yet you came. Why are you proving difficult to get? Don't you want me to-"

"I came here to present the project! I am sorry I took advantage of you that night so can we end this now? Please. Alpha Richard is trusting me to-"

I could sense her desperation. I could sense her pain in fact but I refused to hear anything about her unworthy mate, "How many times do I have to tell you that I do not care about Richard's plan? Other Alphas can do better than he would ever dream of. So why should I choose him?"

I yelled.

Rose shut her eyes for some minutes and stood motionlessly before me. I believed she was thinking about the situation and searching through her mind for a way out... however, I wouldn't let her out.

"We..." Rose began, opening her emotional eyes, "If you pass this plan and give the project of the mineral area in the far east to Alpha Richard, I will do whatever you want."

"She thinks you want her for sex alone. She is willing to have sex with you if you pass her mate's plan. So sad."

Max lamented, wondering what could have pushed Rose to this level of desperation.

No matter what that may be, I would have to disappoint her by making my true intention known.

"You will do anything, you say?" I asked to confirm that she hasn't changed her mind. Rose bit her lips and nodded with a look that screamed, "I am going to regret this but what else can I do?"

I wasn't going to regret my request. At that moment, I was so certain.

"Be my woman. Become my mate, Rose."

I held her gaze and said unabashedly.

"What! That's impossible!" Rose voiced, showing that she was disgusted, "I am mated to another. Alpha Richard is my mate!"

I ignored her outburst and feigned surprise, "Oh! He is?" Rose sneered at me but that didn't stop me from pointing out one or two defaults in her relationship.

"I don't see his mark on your neck, Rose and neither do you smell like him!" I voiced. "You are mated to him? So what? Is he your destined mate? So what? If you could voluntarily find me in the woods that night then I can tell that something is wrong with the relationship between you and your mate!"

Max was so proud that I was representing us well.

Rose's pale skin became whiter, "What do you think of me?" She asked.

I raised my eyebrows, "A mated female who ran out to find another man in the middle of the night. That's who you are and that's what I take you for."

Immediately, I sensed that I had broken her. I have said words that I couldn't take back and the tears in her green eyes were all I needed to regret my words... wishing I could take them back.

"You are unbelievable." She whispered. "That night has definitely become my biggest mistake henceforth and if you aren't going to talk about the project, I will leave."

I asked myself what she meant by "That night has definitely become my biggest mistake henceforth". Was she not regretting that night before? Has been living with the memories of that night as her motivation?

Despite having all these thoughts in my head, I responded with "Okay." Rose nodded sadly yet I added, "You reject me today, Rose. let's see how difficult your life with Richard would become."

She gritted, "It's none of your business!"

I didn't know why I said that to her and Max grilled me for being a d*ckhead but I didn't stop Rose as she pulled the door open and left my library.

Perhaps I was jealous and angry that she chose Alpha Richard over me.

Even after she left, she remained in my mind... She lingered within and around me, making me wonder about so much...
