The Sweet Pursuit by Golden Autumn -
Chapter 11
The two went to class and entered the classroom. Many of the students turned to look at Suzy. It was perhaps because they had seen or heard about the commotion below the foreign language building earlier. The look in everyone's eyes varied slightly. Some admired Suzy, while some ridiculed her for being too aloof and not knowing when to appreciate something. Suzy appeared the same as usual while she and Cece looked for seats and sat down. She took out a book and a pen, preparing herself to listen to the lecture later.
...
After the class was over, Cece approached her muse by taking the chance to ask questions while Suzy sat in her seat waiting for her.
After waiting for ten minutes, Cece did not seem to be done, so Suzy got up and went to the bathroom.
She came out of the bathroom and was about to go back to the classroom when Tiffany came over with a few of her friends.
Tiffany stared gloomily at Suzy's face and waited for her to walk closer. Using her body to block Suzy's path, TIffany then warned her in a commanding tone, "Stay away from Yasiel in the future!"
Suzy said lightly, "You should be telling Yasiel that."
Tiffany's expression changed in an instant. "Don't you have shame?"
She was used to being rampant. Upon remembering the grievances she had endured in the last couple of days, she wanted to seize this opportunity to vent. She raised her hand and aimed it at Suzy's face, deliberating trying to harm Suzy in front of everyone as payback for what had happened with Yasiel.
Suzy did not wait for Tiffany's hand to reach her and quickly kicked her left leg.
Tiffany's leg immediately snapped!
Suzy's clean and delicate facial features always gave people the illusion that she was soft and easy to bully. In fact, her way of solving problems was actually just as neat as Suzy would never talk too much.
...
An hour later, Suzy was standing in the chancellor's office. On the other hand, Tiffany had been sent to the hospital. At the moment, Tiffany's father, Kenneth Jones, was arguing with the chancellor.
As the counselor listened to Suzy's and Kenneth's argument, Tiffany was clearly the one who made the first move. Hence, Suzy's counterattack was also a legitimate act of self-defense.
Kenneth pointed at him angrily. "Why are you being protective of this little sl*t? She's the one who seduced Tiff's boyfriend. You can tell she's no good at first glance. Perhaps the two of you might be in a shameful relationship as well?!" The counselor's face turned deathly white upon hearing these words. "You shouldn't be spitting out these malicious rumors!"
The chancellor grimaced as well. "Mr. Jones, it's not right for you to speak in this manner. We can sue you for slander!"
Kenneth was flying into a rage out of humiliation. "I don't care about the shameful deeds going on between all of you, but you ought to take the blame for what happened to Tiff. If you don't expel this stupid little girl, the 1.5 million dollars that I donated to the school will have to be returned to me right now!"
The Jones family was a wealthy family. Last year, when River University was building a new library, Kenneth donated a sum of 1.5 million dollars.
"I'm a contributor to River U, but you're now treating me this way for a mere poor student! You'll hand me back the money this instant!" Kenneth placed his hands on his waist, being extremely arrogant.
"Then please do give us a couple more days, Mr. Jones." The school could not simply take out 1.5 million dollars, but the chancellor was a scholar and had his own dignity.
"There's no further discussion. Hand me the money now!" Kenneth refused to yield even just by a little.
"I'll pay it back to you!" A cold and magnetic voice sounded from behind the sofa. Then, a tall figure stood up and walked over with his long pair of legs.
Kenneth's fat and distorted face quickly froze. He looked at the man with a dumbfounded expression. "M-Mr. Laine?"
Suzy, who was standing behind, suddenly raised her head.
When they were arguing, there was a person sitting on the sofa, but that person had turned his back on everyone. Hence, no one could see his face.
Suzy was still rather calm before, but now, she felt a little guilty. She did not expect to see George here, or in this sort of setting.
The words that Kenneth had said earlier... They were so loud, so George must have heard them too.
Kenneth had lost all of the loftiness he had just now. His business had been running smoothly over the years, and his name was worth hundreds of millions by now. However, he was nothing in front of the Laine family. Chancellor Fowell stepped forward and said in a low voice, "This is a matter between the school and the parents of the students, George. You don't need to interfere."
The chancellor had a personal relationship with George's father, so he invited George over because of the anniversary of the founding of the school. Hence, it was naturally not a good thing to trouble him with these things. Kenneth did not expect Chancellor Fowell to be friendly with George Laine, so he quickly switched to a smiling face and tried to curry favor. "I truly didn't know that you were here, Mr. Laine. There's no need to pay the money. I was merely joking."
George simply kept his word and completely ignored Kenneth. He took out his phone and instructed the company assistant to transfer three million to the school. After hanging up the phone, he turned to Chancellor Fowell and said, "Repay him with the interest."
Kenneth's face turned pale. George had just returned to Cantent, yet he had already offended him before he could curry favor with him.
Since things had escalated this far, Chancellor Fowell did not say much. Soon, the money arrived in the account and was transferred back to Kenneth.
Kenneth left in embarrassment and kept thinking of a way to redeem his honor in front of George.
The chancellor and counselor went to see Kenneth off, so only Suzy and George were left in the office.
Suzy looked like she was in a predicament. No matter the case, she was still the Laine family's tutor, but now, she was standing here because of a fight. Moreover, George was the one who paid the money to settle the matter.
Suzy felt that she should say something. She raised her head to look at the man, and just as she was about to speak, George suddenly said, "Don't mention it. I didn't do it for you."
Suzy's words were stuck in her throat. She had known since earlier that the man had sharp tongue, but she still felt stifled.
She said softly, "I wasn't planning on thanking you!"
The man was a head taller than her and looked down as he asked, "Seeing how you kicked Tiffany Jones, I assume you've had training?"
They had checked the surveillance footage in the corridor. George had the chance to watch it as well. At the time, Tiffany was imposing, while her hand was fast and ruthless. Even so, Suzy barely blinked before landing a kick on her leg. How could an ordinary woman snap someone's leg with just one kick?
Something dark flashed across Suzy's eyes, and she said calmly, "I practiced self-defense when I was a child."
George nodded. "Don't worry. I can distinguish right from wrong. I won't fire you because of this."
Suzy was about to speak when she heard footsteps approaching. She quickly closed her mouth and lowered her head.
George wanted to chuckle when he saw her pretending to be well-behaved.
Chancellor Fowell walked in, looked at Suzy, and said earnestly, "I believe that you're a good student, Suzy. But no matter what, you shouldn't have been physical. Don't let this affect your future." Suzy lowered her long eyelashes and nodded meekly. "Yes. Thank you, Chancellor."
"Don't thank me!" Chancellor Fowell said with a smile, "You should be thanking Mr. Laine here. He's the one who helped you!"
Suzy took a deep quiet breath. Then, she walked two steps forward, raised her head, and softly said with her pink lips, "Thank you, Mr. Laine!"
George's face remained still. There was a hint of teasing in his dark pair of eyes as if he was mocking her for saying that she would not thank him earlier.
"You're welcome. However..." George said slowly, "As a student, it's better to know your place. Don't sully the reputation of River U's century-old prestige because of these messy things."
Suzy's face turned slightly pale. She bit her lip and did not speak.
Chancellor Fowell smoothed things out and changed the subject. "I truly do apologize. I made you spend three million for no reason. The school will pay you the money back."
George glanced at Suzy and said, "Let her pay it back!"
Suzy gasped and stared at him blankly.
Chancellor Fowell thought that George was merely joking. He smiled at Suzy and said, "It's getting dark now, Suzy. You should head home. Don't worry about Tiffany Jones' matter. The school will take care of the aftermath." Suzy thanked Chancellor Fowell again and did not dare to take a second look at George. She quickly turned around and left the office.
After Suzy went out, Chancellor Fowell invited George to sit down again and said with a smile, "Don't frighten her. She's still a kid!"
George smiled a little and said, "I don't think she's afraid, at all."
