The Possessive Alpha -
Chapter 62
ELLE POV
Lush, vibrant grass tickles my feet as I walk along a hillside with its wildflowers and an ethereal glow. Letting the sun’s warmth wash over me, enjoying the peaceful silence for the first time in days. With all the discoveries about my life and past, I have so much left to uncover that my mind is constantly battling through what I want and am destined for.
Walking along, I stop to admire wildflowers in colors I had never seen before, their petals as soft as silk and smelling like divinity. Afraid of accidentally plucking one, I release the petals in my fingers, allowing it to rejoin its brothers without harm. Remaining oblivious to my surroundings, I continue on my path, tilting my face to the sun’s bright glow.
After a few minutes of enjoying the warmth, I decide it’s time to lower my face. Opening my eyes, I meet the bright green orbs of a beautiful red wolf sitting beneath a large oak tree a few yards ahead of me. I step forward tentatively, pausing for a reaction, but when the wolf watches me silently, I know it’s safe to continue onward.
With only a yard left, she steps into the sunlight, her fur practically glowing with a golden-orange hue, snatching the air from my lungs like a thief in the night. I had seen a lot of wolves over the years, but none could compare to the one standing before me.
With only a foot between us, I reach out my hand, allowing her to sniff my hand before I attempt to pet her. After a few sniffs, her warm breath tickling my fingers, she lowers her head in allowance. Running my hand along her fur, I cannot get over how silky smooth it is. The power and muscle were noticeable, her frame as large as any male Alpha I had seen.
“You’re magnificent,” I whisper in awe as I scratch behind her ears. Only one other wolf left me in wonder as I looked upon them; Slade, with his chocolate brown fur and bright blue eyes.
“She is, isn’t she?” An angelic voice calls out from behind me, startling me enough to jump away from the wolf as if I was caught committing a crime.
“Who are you?” I ask; the woman is dressed in a long silver dress, her obsidian hair reaching her waist and silver eyes that could pierce through souls. A celestial glow circles her aura as if in protection, and an overwhelming feeling of stupidity overcomes me as I realize I already know.
“You already know who I am, Elle,” she smiles sweetly, nodding at me to confirm her identity.”Your wolf is quite beautiful, isn’t she?” She turns her head to gaze at her child in wonder before explaining. “I created her specifically for you; you have lived together for many lifetimes.”
“Why am I here Selene?” I ask, knowing there is more to this conversation than what she is saying, becoming anxious for concrete answers. Only bits and pieces of the puzzle fit. I need concrete answers.
“Do you know how Alphas and Luna souls are chosen before entering the corporeal realm in the Alpha bloodlines?” She asks, and I shake my head, unsure what this has to do with my wolf, why I am here, or what the hell is happening. Is this some weird acid trip?
“Their souls have been reincarnated multiple lifetimes, starting as omega, and their actions within the pack and to their fellow members determine their position in the next life. Kindness, respect, and duty to their fellow packs are a few qualities that promote strength in the following lives.” her explanation sounds similar to the human religion of Hinduism with their belief in karma and reincarnation. “Do you know how much you and your wolf sacrificed to become a Luna-born Alpha female?”
“No,” I barely croak out, feeling a little guilty that I was questioning my reason for being here, “I don’t know, how many times?”
“You lived thirty-five lives as a mated Luna in a lower rank like Beta and Gamma families,” she continues, “And fifty times born as a second or third Alpha child. You fought wars, saved children, and died at the hands of cruel men to protect what is yours. You may not remember these lives, but those values, live deep within your soul and your wolf.”
“We must be quite the pair together,” I comment, running my fingers through her once more, the desire to keep in contact with her stronger than ever.
“You are,” she sighs, patting the wolf head that sits between us, “you are fierce, intelligent, empathetic, and some of the most determined souls I have ever created. It is a treat to watch you two grow as a team.” But a lingering thought keeps popping into my head; that Selene did not bring me to this hillside to talk about my wolf’s and my history. There is more to her visit than telling me this.
“Do you meet with every Alpha the night before their shift?” I ask, already having a sense of what that answer is.
“No,” she replies quickly, “I only appear to souls whose lives will be catalysts for change in the werewolf community.”
“And I am a catalyst?” I ask, the words feeling funny in my mouth.
“You are,” Selene nods, “a catalyst for the betterment of Luna born everywhere. For too long, they have been kidnapped and abused. It’s time for that to change. You regaining your rightful place as Alpha and leader of your pack will change the course of history for future generations.”
“So, no pressure or anything, right?” I say, only half joking as a nervous chuckle suddenly leaves my mouth, the walls of life closing around me under the pressure. “I suppose you’re not going to give me any pointers on how I can accomplish all of this?” I feel stupid for even asking, already knowing the answer.
An easy smile graces her lips at my questions, a calming energy filling the air around us, causing me to relax. “No,” she responds,
“Because this is a journey you need to make on your own, without my outside influence. I will protect you, whatever path you choose, but it is yours alone.”
Before a word leaves my mouth, Selene is nodding to something behind me; rotating my shoulder, I turn to find a giant ball of light in the center of the field. “You two must run along; you have a big day ahead of you.”
Looking at Selene one last time so I may remember what she looks like, after a moment of admiring her features, I decide it’s time to return. I follow the path only a few steps toward the ball of light, my wolf eagerly trotting alongside me, anxious to meet again in this lifetime.
After we are three steps away, she calls out, “Oh, Elle, one last thing.”
“Yes,” I stop, turning back to look at her, the large wolf stopping with me, matching my movements.
“A witch’s prophecy is determined by the intentions of others as they decide to protect or harm the person it is about. Your destiny is determined by your choices and how you react to the others around you; remember that as you make your decisions in the coming days.” As soon as Selene had appeared, she was gone again, leaving the wolf and me alone on the hillside.
“I guess it’s up to us now,” I say, staring into the bright green eyes, “apparently, we have big things happening in the next few days.”
With the red wolf matching my stride, I let my feet direct us toward the ball of light at the other end of the field, an undeniable calm settling over my limbs, knowing that I still have a say in my life.
