Damon POV

The happiness I feel at Melanie finding her mate, Alpha Stephan from Blue Ridge, does not compare to the joy of knowing Elle will no longer be pushed onto him. But it all comes crashing down around me when dad sees my hand resting on Elle’s arm. Poseidon is in control as he glares where my hand lays, the tingles from our contact ending abruptly as Elle pulls away from me.

‘What the f**k is his problem?’ Slade asks, fighting to take control, not liking that Poseidon thinks he has a say in whether we touch Elle.

“Leave! NOW!” My father screams at Elle, who casts me one last glance before scurrying out the door, not looking back.

“What the f**k is your problem?” Slade growls at Poseidon. I see no other option than to let him take control. If my father isn’t going to back down, neither will I.

“You think we are stupid?” My father yells as he steps forward to push me out of the high school foyer. Throwing me down the steps, thank the goddess for the werewolf abilities. I can land quite easily. “Ever since you came back from camp, I have noticed your obsession with Elle!” he growls as he throws a punch I barely miss. “You need to stay away from Elle, your mother and I made promises to her parents, and you’re ruining them!” My father’s screaming has caused students and teachers to file out of the school and watch us fight.

“I am not going to sit by and watch you marry her off to someone who isn’t her mate!” Slade screams as he blocks and lands a few punches of his own. “She deserves her fated mate!”

‘We made promises to her parents, and we will not break them,’ Poseidon’s voice comes through the link as my father shifts into his cream-colored wolf. Wasting no time, Slade transforms and is on four paws, his height and size evenly matched to Poseidon’s.

‘You made an unbreakable promise that involves finding Elle a chosen one?’ I snort back as we continue to snarl, circling one another.

‘It’s more complicated than that,’ My father says back in his voice, an octave closer to what he usually sounds like. ‘But whatever you think you feel for Elle, you need to let it go because it’s not happening.’

‘That should be Elle’s choice,’ I scream back at him, not wanting to back down, ‘Was it her parents’ wish to make her miserable her entire life? Because that’s what will happen if she takes a chosen mate!’

‘Damnit, Damon!’ Poseidon snarls, coming forward once again to lunge at me. I can feel the eyes of other pack members watching the fray from the sidelines. None dare to step in and break up a fight between two Alphas unless they have a death wish. ‘Stay out of this! That’s an order!’ He growls as he pins me to the ground, his mouth clamped around my throat, the Alpha command slowly washing over me involuntarily, causing me to relax. As soon as he releases me, I stand to glare growling at him one last time before turning to run off in the opposite direction and away from him.

After letting Slade have the reigns for a few hours, I steer us to our favorite spot under the tree in the big field. As we got closer, I saw two figures sitting underneath the tree. As I get closer, I can tell it’s Andrew and Matt, probably waiting to find out what the hell happened today.

‘You’re dad went f*****g psycho, is what happened,’ Slade mutters, still upset at my father’s attempts to pair Elle up with any Alpha who might look in her direction, except me. According to her parents, I wasn’t a good enough option for Elle. ‘Which is bullshit too! We are the better option for Elle than most of those losers they’re introducing her to!’

‘I know,’ I say, my voice filled with sympathy. Slade has been obsessed with Elle since she stepped foot on the territory. Watching my parents play matchmaker for her was starting to tear his heart apart. Shifting back to my human form when I get under the cover of the tree branches, Andrew throws me a change of clothes, and I quickly shift, changing into the athletic shorts he gave me.

“Are you going to tell us what the hell that was about?” Matt demands, the less subtle of the two. Andrew would have taken more consideration in asking his questions. Matt would never, just asking whatever comes to mind.

“It’s nothing,” I grumble, not wanting to talk, as I plop myself into the grass, putting my head on my knees.

“Bullshit,” Matt protests, “Your dad and you were tearing into each other. That’s never happened before. So what were you two fighting about?” He continues to demand, which isn’t the best thing to do with Slade already on edge.

“It was Elle, wasn’t it,” Andrew says, not as a question but as a statement of truth. Damn him and the fact that nothing gets past him. This is why he and his father make such great Beta’s- they’re too intuitive for their own good.

“Yes,” Is all I say on the subject, not wanting to go into it further. My mind is still reeling at my father fighting me to keep me away from Elle. There is more about her story that they aren’t telling me, and being left out in the dark is starting to get old. I am the next Alpha and will be taking over in a year. I deserve to know about the plans they made with Elle’s parents.

“Well?” Matt asks, sitting next to me, both of us looking out over the green grass of the field. “What did your father say to you?” he insists, and looking at Andrew sitting on the grass across from us, he wants to know the answers as well.

Taking a deep sigh, I start my story, “My father saw my hand resting on Elle’s arm after Melanie left the group with her new mate, and then he flipped. Telling me that my mother and he made unbreakable promises to Elle’s parents. He said that I keep intervening with their plans and that I must stay away from her until a chosen mate has been decided.”

“What the hell?” Matt asks, “What parent wants to force a chosen mate on their daughter? Don’t they know Elle’s wolf will be miserable being denied her mate?”

“They do. They don’t care,” I say, rubbing my hands down my face, unsure how I will take a back seat as Elle is paraded in front of other Alphas and Betas like some prized show pig. The thought of it makes a rage rise in my b***d.

“So what are you going to do it?” Andrew asks, a serious look on his face. “We will support you. You know that.”

“Honestly, I don’t know, but first, I need to break this Alpha command,” I say as I look at the field surrounding the tree we are under. My mind is ping-ponging repeatedly as I think of ways to get around my father’s command, which will happen easier than a lower-ranking wolf but still difficult.
