Splashes erupted as Sandy fell into the icy lake. "Sandy..."

The moment Sandy hit the water, Dahlia's voice, filled with panic and distress, echoed from not far away. Her cries tore through the air, "Somebody help! Sandy's fallen into the lake!"

Her voice was loud, immediately drawing the attention of the servants outside.

Upon hearing that Sandy had fallen into the lake, some rushed to rescue her, while others quickly went to inform Charles.

Sandy had only been at the Jenkins Estate for half a day, and all the servants already knew how much Charles cared for this daughter.

It was not like the love he had for his and Evelyn's daughter.

Every time Charlie and Evelyn visited the Jenkins family estate, they never paid them any mind. Although Sandy hadn't yet changed her surname or been officially recorded in the Jenkins family, they already treated her as the young lady. Carmen and Sena also heard the commotion and walked over from the opposite side of the lake. They saw Sandy in the water.

"What are you waiting for? Hurry and get her out," Carmen immediately ordered the servants to rescue her.

Then, her gaze shifted to Evelyn, commanding, "Hold her."

Without even asking, Carmen had already pegged Evelyn as the culprit behind Sandy's fall. The servants immediately approached and detained Evelyn.

By the time Charles arrived, Sandy had just been pulled out of the lake. In the winter, the lake water was bone-chillingly cold. Even though she was quickly rescued, Sandy's face was still blue with cold. She was shivering uncontrollably. Sandy saw Charles, and her eyes immediately reddened. Tears fell in big drops, and her teeth were chattering as she pitifully cried, "Daddy..."

Charles hurried over, his gaze sweeping around. He asked coldly, "What happened?"

As he spoke, he quickly removed Sandy's wet garments, wrapped her in his own coat, and lifted her into his arms.

Sandy curled up in Charles' embrace. She sneakily glanced at Evelyn, shaking even more violently, as if terrified, and said with a trembling voice, "Ms. Evelyn..."

She couldn't finish her sentence before her tears followed. She looked utterly pitiable.

Charles' gaze turned icy cold. He passed by Evelyn, and his frosty gaze landed on her. His brows furrowed. His eyes were sharp and piercing.

Evelyn met Charles' gaze.

From that look, Evelyn knew that he believed she was the one who pushed Sandy.

It's just like the first time Sandy and Charlie met.

Sandy had fallen into the pool. With just a veiled hint at Charlie, Charles didn't even ask before deciding it was Charlie who had done it.

...

Everyone returned to the main house's living room. Evelyn was also forcibly brought over.

Sandy had changed into dry clothes by then, visibly shocked and unwilling to leave Charles' embrace.

Her pale face rested against Charles, and her small hands clutched his shirt. She continuously shivered and softly called out, "Daddy."

Dr. Nelson hurried over to examine her. "Mr. Charles, Miss Sandy has caught a bit of a chill. She'll be fine after some ginger tea." Charles' expression was slightly relaxed.

Dr. Nelson then added, reminding

him kindly, "But she just underwent a kidney transplant not too long ago,

and her body hasn't ful

A minor cold could be very dangerous for her, potentially leading to complications and irreversible damage. Her primary physician must have also cautioned you. You must be careful in the future."

At those words, Charles' expression grew terrifyingly grim. His gaze on Evelyn turned sharp as a knife.

Dahlia, who had been crying throughout, also shuddered violently. Dr. Nelson's words were like a catalyst, and long-suppressed emotions suddenly erupted.

She turned to Evelyn, her eyes bloodshot, her voice trembling with accusation, "Evelyn, ever since I came back with Sandy, you've been intolerant of us. You've targeted me again and again, instigating Charlie to harm Sandy. "I've been patient with you, for Charles' sake. I told you more than once that if you're angry, take it out on me, not Sandy.

"Sandy is a poor girl. She's been frail since childhood and suffered a lot. Now, after the surgery, you push her into the lake. In this weather, the lake water is so cold, it could kill her!

"How can you be so cruel? How could you do such a thing to a five-year-old child?"

Each of Dahlia's words stepped on Evelyn's sore spots.

Dahlia was implying she was a cold-blooded creature, willing to do anything for her goals. So, naturally, that meant she could lie about Charlie's death time and again, and of course, she could push Sandy into the lake. Charles' face darkened even further.

Evelyn stood her ground, dignified.

Facing Dahlia's accusations, she didn't get angry. Her voice was calm. "I didn't push her. Sandy fell into the lake herself. I have..."

Before she could say "evidence," Sena urgently interrupted her. "You're lying."

She didn't give Evelyn a chance to defend herself and glared at her with righteous indignation. Her words were biting,

"I saw it with my own et

eyes. Sandy was smiling and

greeting you, but you reached out

your wicked hand and pushed Sandy

into the lake.

"Evelyn, you're just jealous that my brother loves Dahlia, adores Sandy, and treats her well. You're jealous that we all like Dahlia and Sandy, aren't you? You're really too evil!"

Before Evelyn could speak again,

Carmen interrupted her without giving her a chance. Her voice was harsh. "You've been in the Jenkins family for many years. You should know we don't tolerate such

underhanded tactics. Five, net

ago,

you drugged Charles in a despicable manner. My brother and I warned you then, but you've repeatedly crossed the line. Today, if we don't teach you a lesson, you won't learn. Someone, take Evelyn to the family chapel, and let her reflect properly."

At Carmen's command, the servant immediately stepped forward, without giving Evelyn a chance to speak. They covered her mouth, dragging her toward the chapel.

Evelyn struggled, her eyes reddening as she looked back at Charles. He sat on the sofa with a cold expression, watching her without intervening.

Evelyn was dragged into the chapel.

"Kneel!"
