The Day Our Promise Breaks -
Chapter 56
No one called for her. Evelyn went to her grandmother's backyard to tend to the garden.
Although the Jenkins family employed a gardener, Evelyn would come over from time to time to look after the plants and flowers.
Rosa was abroad for medical treatment, and only the morning maid would come into the yard.
She trimmed the plants with care. Just as she was about to leave, Dahlia blocked her path.
They were alone, so Dahlia dropped her disguise and cursed, "Evelyn, you keep saying you want to break up with Charles, and now you're clinging to him again. Don't you find yourself despicable..." Before she could finish her insult, Evelyn unexpectedly raised her hand and slapped Dahlia. "Dahlia, mind your language."
She glared at Dahlia coldly, wishing she could tear her apart.
Dahlia stepped back instinctively under her gaze. But the next second, the pain on her face made her realize what happened, and she stepped forward, trying to retaliate.
"You dare to slap me, you bitch!"
As she raised her hand, Evelyn grabbed it. She forced Dahlia against a tree, barely restraining herself from strangling her.
Her grip tightened as she took deep breaths to suppress the anger rising from within. Her gaze was as cold as ice, and her voice sinister. "Can't handle it? Dahlia, this is just the beginning!" She let go of Dahlia and left.
Dahlia fell to the ground, watching the direction Evelyn went, clenching her fists.
"Mommy..." Sandy, who had found her way there, saw Dahlia and ran to her with teary eyes.
She struggled to help Dahlia sit up, blowing gently on the slap mark on her face with sympathy. "Mommy, I will make it better."
She covered Dahlia's face in saliva.
Dahlia frowned, her disdain flashing momentarily She pushed Sandy away. Her voice was choked up with tears, "Sandy, I'm okay. It's all my fault for not being strong enough. I can't beat Evelyn and Charlie"

As she spoke, tears fell. Sandy immediately raised her hand to wipe away Dahlia's tears. "Mommy, don't cry. You still have me, and I won't let that bad woman bully you. Mommy,
I have a plan. I'll make her pay right now." .
Last time, Charlie was playing with her, Dahlia told her to fall into the pool on purpose and to falsely claim that it was Charlie who pushed her. Charles believed her and was furious. He punished Charlie severely. Evelyn was in tears when she took the unconscious Charlie away. That night, Dahlia was very happy. She had kissed Sandy for the first time in Charles' absence, saying she was a good girl. Sandy ran off.
Dahlia knew what Sandy's plan was but didn't stop her. Instead, she slowly stood up.

Evelyn stood by the artificial lake.
Sandy caught up from behind, ran in front of her, and smiled sweetly. "Ms. Evelyn."
This smile was similar to Dahlia's. It was off-putting.
Evelyn noticed Sandy reaching out to her and quickly stepped back, avoiding her hand.
Sandy's hand fell through the air, and she threw herself backward into the lake. She jumped without hesitation, not giving Evelyn time to react.
