Evelyn was on the verge of tears. Her dignity was shattered. Anger surged through her as she fought back desperately.

In the moment his attention was diverted by Dahlia and his guard was down, she kneed him hard below the belt.

"Ugh!" Charles grunted in pain.

Seizing the moment of his agony, Evelyn flipped over, escaping from beneath him. She opened the car door and got out.

Pulling her coat tighter around her disheveled self, she hurried back to her own car in a disarray of steps and got in. Only when she locked the door did her tense nerves finally relax. Inside the car, Charles leaned back in his seat, taking out a cigarette from the pack and lighting it.

His gaze had followed Evelyn, as he savored how she had just lain beneath him.

Her hair was in disarray, and her skin was glowing under the light. The marks he had left were like roses blooming in the snow.

Charlie's Adam's apple bobbed as the arousal in his eyes deepened. He took a deep breath and slowly exhaled. The smoke swirled around, obscuring his expression.

Dahlia's concerned voice rang out again. "Charles, are you there?"

He responded nonchalantly, "Hmm, what's wrong?"

The lustful, husky tone of his voice traveled through the line into Dahlia's ears.

The strange sound left her stunned.

Dahlia was no stranger to such matters. That sound was a clear indication of what he had been doing.

An hour ago, Charles had his assistant take her home while he drove off himself, a cold aura enveloping him. She couldn't figure out if he was angry because Evelyn had messed with her or because she had approached Evelyn. She hadn't dared to keep him by her side. She hadn't expected him to go find Evelyn.

And he had made out with her...

Dahlia's grip on her phone tightened noticeably.

Still, she didn't show any sign of it as she spoke to Charles. She softened her voice slightly, feigning innocence. "I woke up and didn't see you. I thought you were mad at me."

She noticed Charles didn't respond and knew he was displeased with her actions today.

Dahlia was quick to show weakness and immediately apologized, "Charles, I know I shouldn't have gone to meet Evelyn today. But it wasn't on purpose. I just felt sorry for Sandy."

"Last night, after she fell asleep, you left. She woke up in the middle of the night and didn't see you and cried all night. She kept asking me why she has a dad but still feels like we're abroad and couldn't live with her dad.

"Charles, Sandy has been with me abroad for the past five years, enduring so much hardship and suffering. I was just too heartbroken for her this morning. That's why I acted impulsively..."

"I won't do it again. I'll take good care of both of you." Charles' voice softened.

"Charles, I'm sorry, I won't do it again. I know you're considering grandma's health. I'll be patient. I'll also strive to win first place in this year's Jewelry Design Contest to gain Patrick's approval."

"Hmm." Charles responded softly.

Not receiving the promise she had hoped for, Dahlia clenched her fists.

...

The first thing Evelyn did when she got home was visit the spare room. Charlie's ashes were kept in this room.

She walked over, gently touching the urn with her hand. Her gaze, filled with love, fell on the photo beside the urn.

Her daughter was so beautiful, well-behaved, and adorable. She's forever captured in that one year.

Evelyn's eyes reddened, her voice hoarse with promise. "Darling, Mommy will do her best."

She had to earn the prize money to buy a burial plot for her daughter. That way, Charlie would surely be born into a happy family and never again be reincarnated into the belly of someone with miserable fate like Evelyn, enduring endless hardship.
