George POV

"I went to Fallman Lake to meet up with Alex and then we came here."

I concluded my story about how I ended up here.

During the whole time I talked, I wouldn't dare to look at him. I was afraid of his reaction and that he might just throw Alex and myself out of his pack despite his promise to me.

After I stopped talking, the room was filled with silence.

From the corner of my eye, I could see Alpha Jordan lean back in his chair.

"The way I see it, you were faced with an impossible choice. Either you take the blame for killing Tommy and risking not only your own life, but the life of your mate aswell, or you let your sister take the blame. Sounds to me like she made the decision herself, did she not?"

I shrugged.

"I guess. I just felt like it's all my fault. If I hadn't pulled Alex into the alley in the first place this would never had happened."

Alpha Jordan smiled.

"You're not the first person to be tempted by the mate bond. It goes against every instinct not to act on it, especially when the mate is right there next to you. That's why I can't blame you for killing Tommy either. He tried to hurt your mate. He hurt your sister. You had every right to do what you did. It's basic self-defense really."

I decided to ask him.

"I understand that you wouldn't want me to be your Beta, but can I please ask you to allow me to find my sister and bring her here? I'll do anything!"

Alpha Jordan remained silent for a while.

"Your sister is technically innocent, so I will allow it. But I have a few conditions."

I leaned forward. "Name them."

"First, if she becomes a member of my pack she should probably not tell anyone about her being blacklisted. It might not sit well with the rest of the pack. Second, I still want you to become my Beta."

His second condition startled me.

"You do?"

Alpha Jordan smiled.

"You took out an alpha wolf to protect the people you loved. If that's not a sign of a good Beta, I don't know what is."

I laughed, feeling like a weight lifted from my chest.

"Deal."

Alpha Jordan stood up and I shook his hand.

"There's just something I have to do first."

His eyes clouded over and I could tell that he was mindlinking someone.

A few minutes later, the door opened and Beta Christian walked in.

"What's up?" He said.

He glanced at me, looking confused.

"Who's the squirt?"

I pursed my lips.

"I figured that since you were too busy to help me run the pack, I had to find someone that wasn't."

Alpha Jordan gestured to me.

"Meet your new replacement."

Christian looked dumbfounded. "You're replacing me? With him?"

Christian burst out laughing.

"You think that this kid can do a better job than me?"

Alpha Jordan smiled, but the smile didn't reach his eyes.

"Actually, all this kid has to do is to show up on time and he'll be doing a better job than you ever did."

Christian stared at me with so much hatred, I didn't know what to do. I just smiled nervously.

"I, Alpha Jordan Walker of the Blue Eclipse Pack, hereby remove you from the Beta position." Christian gaped at Alpha Jordan.

"Seriously? You're making me a warrior? You'll regret this!"

Before Alpha Jordan could answer, Christian left the room and slammed the door shut.

Jordan smirked.

"That was really satisfying."

He got up from his seat.

"Now, we start looking for Sally. Where could she be right now?"

I shrugged.

"I have no idea."

Sally POV

Elijah took my hand and led me on a small path along the packhouse. When we reached the forest clearing he stopped.

"We have to cover our scents." He said and pointed to the ground.

I almost started laughing.

"Mud?" I asked. "That's your plan?"

Elijah grabbed my shoulders.

"If you trust that I can get us off the pack territory, can I trust that you can find a place for us to spend the night without getting killed?" Fair enough.

I nodded.

"I trust you." I said, walked over to the puddle of mud on the ground and started smearing it all over me.

Elijah crouched down beside me and did the same.

"It will throw off the guards, at least for a while. If not, they'll just think that it's two wolves wanting to mate in private."

"Let's hope so." I smiled. "There's a town west of the pack border. I left my backpack there, do you think we could double back to get it?" "Sure." He nodded.

"Thanks."

When we were done covering ourselves in mud, Elijah took my hand again.

"Follow my footsteps and do exactly as I say."

I nodded.

"Lead the way."

We walked in silence. Sometimes Elijah would stop at a tree and hug me to his chest while a guard passed. Sometimes we had to run. I felt the wounds on my back and things sting, but I ignored it and followed Elijah further into the forest.

I started to wonder how Elijah could know the guard routes so well. He caused a commotion outside my cell to stop Alpha Richard from rap.ing me, so I assumed that he was an Omega and was a servant in the packhouse. But it was highly unusual for an Omega to be trusted with border patrol routes.

Even if the light was dim, I had also been able to see his face better. What I first thought was a scar turned out to be a birthmark. I had never seen anything like it and I was surprised that I found it so sexy. The red of the mark accentuated his beautiful brown eyes in a way that made my stomach do sommersaults.

We walked further into the forest and I stared at his broad back. He was almost a foot taller than me, and the roughness in his hands was a sign of hard labor. He moved gracefully between the trees, looking for the best route to the border.

His ass looked really nice from this angle.

Oh Goddess.

Stop.

Stupid mate bond.

Elijah stopped by a tree and pulled me to him again. My face was close to his and I resisted the urge to reach up and kiss him.

Judging by the look on Elijah's face, he seemed to be thinking the same thing.

I felt my cheeks heat up and I looked away from the amused grin that formed on Elijah's face.

"It's not far to the border. On my mark, we run as fast as we can, alright?" He breathed in my ear.

"Okay." I whispered.

He took my hand.

"Ready?"

"Ready."

We took off running towards the border, Elijah's grip on my hand looseden when we crossed over it and was off the Midnight pack territory.

We stood in silence for a moment, listening for any signs that we were being followed.

"You alright?" Elijah asked.

I nodded and grinned at him.

"Where was that backpack?" He asked.

"I hid it a mile south of the town. I've got some cash in there, we'll probably need it now that we're on the run."

I had saved as much of Luke's cash as I could. My goal had been to find a job in a human town, but it had been a little harder than I thought since I'm 18, a high school dropout and don't really have any experience. "Sounds good. Let's go."

Elijah's voice pulled me from my thoughts and we started walking again.
