Raven’s POV

Elise is gone, and so is Harry. I sit in my wheelchair, feeling absolutely helpless as I watch everyone run around, trying to figure out how they escaped. One of the guards is knocked out, and the other is sporting a knife wound to the stomach. The description that the wounded guard gave was an older woman with scars covering her face. Whoever set them free had a key to the dungeons.

The longer I sit in this wheelchair, the more my anger begins to bubble to the surface. If they hadn’t excluded me from the trials or the sentencing, I could have looked into Elise and Harry’s memories and possibly figured out who was behind all of these attacks. But now they are gone, and we are no closer to knowing who is leading this group of rebels.

My fathers walk up to me with their heads hung low. They know they have screwed up. My mates stand beside me quietly. Neither one of them dares to speak. The five men surrounding me have failed me as Luna Queen, and if I could banish them from their packs, I would. But unfortunately, they haven’t technically done anything wrong.

Elder Garrett approaches me with his head held high. I can tell that he doesn’t believe that this is his fault at all. “Luna Queen,” he greets me.

“Elder Garrett,” I grumble his name.

“I am afraid that we have failed you,” Garrett continues. “It was wrong to leave you out of the decision-making regarding these two prisoners. As it stands right now, I believe that you should return to the North Pack, where we know you will be safe.”

“No,” I retort.

“No?” The six men standing around me question.

“I will not go into hiding,” I say with my head held high. “I will continue my tour to meet all of the packs. I want to leave for the South Pack in the morning. I think the West Pack has had enough excitement because of me.”

“My love,” Leo breaks in. “I would prefer you say at the North Pack so I can keep an on Blue Moon.”

“And what about my pack?” Oliver snaps back. “Am I just supposed to leave my pack unattended?”

“You could always return home,” Leo says with a sly grin.

“And leave you two alone? I think not,” Oliver scoffs.

“As far as I am concerned, you both can go back to your packs,” I snap, interrupting their argument. “I don’t need anyone to protect me.”

Leo snickers under his breath, and so does Dad.

“What is so funny?” I ask them.

“It is just that you have spent more time in the hospital than visiting packs since this tour began,” Leo continues to chuckle.

“It is true, Little Bird,” Dad says seriously. “You need someone to protect you now that Warren has disappeared.”

“Disappeared?” I furrow my eyebrows in confusion. “Did he not return to the North Pack?”

“No. It would appear that he has gone rogue,” Dad tells me.

“He wouldn’t do that,” I say, refusing to believe what I am hearing.

“He has, Little Bird,” Papa interjects. “No one has seen him since the morning he was dismissed.”

Hot tears sting my eyes as the feeling of guilt rises in my chest. The Warren I knew would have never gone rogue. He was proud to serve as a guard in the North Pack and to be my personal guard.

But when I met Leo, something changed within Warren. He was no longer my best friend. He instantly wanted more. He wanted something that I could not give him. If only he had been my mate.

“I want to go back to the pack house,” I say, sniffing back the tears threatening to fall.

“You have to go back to the hospital,” Oliver says worriedly. “You haven’t finished your physical therapy.”

My eyes snap in his direction, and he cowers under my glare. “What part I am leaving in the morning, did you not understand?”

Oliver keeps his eyes trained on the ground. He is refusing to look up at me. He nods his head in understanding. He isn’t going to be like Leo, who challenges me at every corner. Oliver will follow me blindly no matter how wrong my decision is.

Dad begins to wheel me back to the car. He doesn’t say a word as he lifts me out of my wheelchair and places me in the back of his black SUV. Before I have time to protest, Oliver is sliding across the back seat of the SUV to sit next to me. Leo climbs in the seat next to him.

I don’t speak to Dad or my mates on the way back to the pack house. Curling my body as close to the door as possible, I try to put as much distance between myself and Oliver. But he is determined to touch me. He continues to inch closer to me, and I have nowhere to go. I can feel the heat from his leg up against mine. I try to ignore the tether of the bond that is growing stronger between us. But it is becoming impossible.

I find my mind wandering to places that it shouldn’t go. I glance at Oliver out of the corner of my eyes. I cannot help but wonder what his lips would feel like against mine. Would the k**s be delicate and sweet, or would it be full of need and hunger like it is with Leo?

The SUV jerks to a stop, and I find myself outside the West Pack pack house. My Dad exits the car to retrieve the wheelchair from the trunk, but Oliver has different plans. While Leo waits patiently for Dad to get the wheelchair out of the back, Oliver rushes to my side of the car and opens the door.

“What are you doing?” I growl, but he ignores my protests and scoops me into his arms.

“I am carrying you into the pack house,” he says with a smile.

I struggle against his hold, but it is of no use. He only tightens his grip around me. I try to ignore the soothing tingles that are spreading throughout my body. But eventually, I give in and lean my head up against his chest. I listen to the calming sound of his heartbeat as he carries me up the stairs.

Oliver kicks open my bedroom door, and suddenly, my heart is racing in my chest. Moving with purpose, Oliver lays me on my bed. But he doesn’t leave me. His body continues to hover over mine.

My lips feel dry, and I instinctively dart my tongue out to moisten them. Oliver’s eyes flicker from my eyes to my lips, and I hear a g***n escape from his chest. I pull my bottom l*p between my teeth and gaze up at him from beneath my eyelashes.

Oliver cups my face in his hand and leans in closer. “I need you,” he whispers.

Our breath mingles with one another. I close my eyes and wait for his lips to brush against mine, but it doesn’t happen. I feel the weight on the bed shift, and Oliver is gone by the time I open my eyes.
