Sweet Twins Indulge in Daddy's Love
Chapter 404 What I Mind Most

Charles' heart ached.

He must alleviate the distress inflicted on the children by the issue about Edward and Nancy.

"Honey, it's okay. You and Bobby are daddy's children. No one will dare to bully you because you have daddy to protect you. Be a good girl and go to sleep." Charles gently kissed Nadia's forehead. Nadia faintly sighed.

She withdrew her hand, turned over and tried to get some sleep.

It was just a whimper, but it was enough to reveal that their classmates' remarks had affected Nadia.

And it was the children's welfare that Charles cared about the most.

He walked out of Nadia's room, and then went to Bobby's to check on him too. The boy was asleep, but his lips were pursed like his heart was heavy.

Charles tucked him in and walked out of the room.

By chance, he bumped into Edward who was coming out of his room.

"Why are you still awake?" Charles inquired.

Edward chuckled, "I couldn't sleep."

"Why not?" Charles asked.

"Why don't we go have some tea? The two of us need to talk."

Charles knew what Edward wanted to talk about. In fact, even if Edward didn't bring it up, Charles would find an opportunity to ask him.

"I didn't expect that still have the habit of drinking tea after living abroad for so many years," Charles commented in a low voice.

"Let me tell you, I have been drinking tea since I was three years old. It's a hard habit to break." Edward smiled. "Back then, when my grandfather was still alive, we lived abroad together. Whenever he drank tea, I did too. Soon enough, it became a part of my routine. My day wouldn't feel incomplete if I didn't get to drink a pot of tea."

"Your grandfather passed away?" Charles asked.

Edward looked a little sad and smiled bitterly. "Yes. Tell me, what kind of tea do you like to drink?"

"I don't know much about tea. I'll have whatever it is that you like." Charles preferred coffee, which gave him mental clarity and alertness even after a long and tiring day at work.

"How about a pot of Longjing tea?" Edward asked as he pushed the door open.

"I'll leave it up to you." Charles followed him in.

Charles was not interested in tea, so he didn't thought much about the tea room.

Of course, he had known about the room, but he'd never been there before.

It was his first time entering the tea room today.

If Charles didn't know about Edward's background, he wouldn't suspect that he had lived abroad for a long time based on the tea room's layout.

Famous Chinese paintings hung on the wall and all the furniture were also of ancient Chinese style.

Charles was preoccupied looking around the room.

Edward had been swift in preparing the tea.

"Come on, have a taste." He handed a small cup to Charles.

Charles received the cup and took a sip. "Well, it smells good."

Edward knew that Charles was well-mannered, so he didn't ask further. He just smiled faintly and said, "I have something to tell you."

"I know." Charles didn't like to play dumb. If he had something to say, he would go straight to the point so things could be settled as soon as possible.

"Do you know that Nancy and I have a registered marriage abroad?" Edward asked awkwardly.

"Yes, I know," Charles answered succinctly.

"You know I like her, don't you?" Edward asked, looking directly into Charles' eyes.

Without dodging, Charles replied, "I know."

"At that time, I didn't know about your existence, let alone the two children. I love Nancy very much. I want her to be my wife and be with her forever." Edward paused for a while. His expression was much more serious than before.

Charles listened to him carefully.

Edward and Nancy's past made him very jealous, but it was something he had no part in. Now, there was nothing he do could do but to listen.

"Nancy had gotten dangerously ill once. She was in a coma for several days. She needed to undergo an operation, but it couldn't be done without a family member's signature signifying consent. As merely her friend, I wasn't authorized to sign the papers. So I was left with no choice but to submit the registration with her identity card. I thought that if I pursue Nancy and confess my love to her, marriage would naturally happen next, and we would be spared that step because we were already married," Edward recounted and took a deep breath.

"But it didn't work out as you planned?" Charles's voice was calm, but deep down, he was drowning in jealousy.

But there was also something else, something that felt like relief and gladness.

"That's right. I beat around the bush and hinted, but Nancy didn't reciprocate any of my advances." Edward sighed.

"And then?" Charles asked further, "Nancy flew back home?"

Edward nodded, "Yes, Nancy went back to the country. I thought about it for a long time, but I couldn't get myself to annul our marriage. I couldn't bear the thought of losing her forever, not having anything that kept me connected to her. I just didn't expect that it would cause such a big trouble to you and Nancy, and also to the children. I'm sorry, but I don't know what to do."

After saying his piece, Edward refilled his cup with tea.

"Edward... Thank you for taking care of Nancy for me when I was away." Charles expressed his gratitude sincerely. "There's no need to apologize to me. I can't blame you, and Nancy couldn't either. You just did what you had to do. All you need to do right now is to rectify the situation. Clarify your relationship with Nancy. Don't let it go on for everyone to gossip about. That would be enough."

"TV, newspaper or Internet?" Edward asked.

"I will instruct Hiram to make the arrangements. Just do what he will tell you," Charles resolutely said.

"Okay, it's settled." Edward shrugged with relief.

Charles picked up the cup and finished the tea. He stood up and said, "It's late. You better get back to bed.

"Good night," said Edward.

"Good night." Charles walked to the door of the tea room, but when he opened the door, he turned around and said, "Thank you, Edward."

"No need. I like Nancy. Just keep that in mind," Edward said half-jokingly and half-seriously.

"I won't forget that," Charles replied with a slight smile and walked out.

When he returned to the bedroom, he found Nancy sound asleep.

Her face was red. Maybe it was because she was too tired from work, or because she had too many things to deal with recently. She also obviously lost a couple of pounds. Charles kissed her lightly on the cheek, feeling sorry for her.

The truth was Nancy really hadn't fallen asleep yet, so she suddenly opened her eyes when Charles' cool lips touched her cheek.

"Did you chat with Edward?" Nancy wrapped her arms around his waist.

"Well, he did it for selfish reasons," Charles blurted out but said no more.

Nancy raised her head and asked, "What?"

In her memory, Edward had always looked out for her.

Charles' words seemed unfair to Edward.

"Nancy, are you really stupid? Or are you just pretending?" Charles leaned in, his forehead was now touching hers.

His warm breath made her heart skip a beat.
