Sweet Twins Indulge in Daddy's Love -
Chapter 383 Burden
"Yes, I used to rely on you too much before. But now I have children and Charles by my side. You should be able to relax a little now." Her voice was low as if she was shy and apologetic. "Do you think you are a burden to me? Nancy, it's not like that. It's a pleasure for me to help you. Don't you know that?" As he spoke, Edward's eyes lit up.
His words made Nancy blush. It was true that he had been good to her unconditionally.
"So, I'm really happy to have a brother like you. Edward, thank you!" Like a spoiled little kid, Nancy smiled.
The sparkle in his eyes disappeared. He was smart enough to realize that Nancy was rejecting his love.
But after a few seconds, he smiled and raised his hand to gently rub her hair. "Well, I'm happy to have a considerate sister like you!"
And then they both fell silent.
After clearing his throat, Edward turned around and said, "I'm going back to my room take a rest. You can wait for Charles to come back. If anything happens, don't hesitate to wake me up." With a lazy smile plastered on her face, Nancy replied,
"Good night, Edward." "Good night."
When Edward left, Nancy put down her cup and picked up the book she was reading, but for whatever reason, her mind couldn't seem to understand a single word which annoyed her. Finally, Nancy put down the book and walked towards the French windows with her phone.
The early winter wind blew in when she opened the windows, which made her shiver and sneeze loudly.
Her nose immediately turned red when she rubbed it.
As it was a little cold, she hugged herself.
She took out her phone and glanced at Doris's number; she hesitated and dialed her number.
However, Doris' phone was turned off.
Nancy shrugged her shoulders and thought that since Doris had met her first love, she must have endless words to say. How could she still think of her old friend?
She poured herself a glass of red wine and drank it slowly.
Perhaps it was because she had been waiting for too long, she unconsciously drank a few glasses, enough to make her face flushed.
Soon, she felt sleepy.
At this moment, she heard the car noise in the courtyard.
Thinking it could be Charles; Nancy put down the goblet and quickly walked out of the study.
As he was about to go upstairs, Charles began to loosen his tie, as if it would help him lessen the weight he was feeling.
Things didn't go well today for him. During the meeting, Derrick had colluded with the shareholders to complain that Charles didn't care about the company and that he kept such a promiscuous woman as Nancy by his side.
What was worse was that, they even said that Nancy was the time bomb of the group. If this thing couldn't be figured out as soon as possible, the bomb would explode and the TS group would be gravely affected.
Derrick was sowing dissension on purpose.
As a man who had gone through a lot of difficulties, how could Charles be easily frightened by these people?
So, he remained indifferent. "I have already explained Nancy's identity many times. I don't want to repeat myself, but I have something to say about the children. Think about it. If I really am being cuckolded by Nancy, and the children aren't mine, then I should be the one to get angry, not you, right?"
His words were firm and flawless.
The shareholders looked at each other and kept silent for a while.
Derrick coughed before he spoke loudly. "Charles, what you're doing is just to control the TS Group. I came back and got the approval of half of the shareholders, so you must be very afraid of me now. You don't care about Nancy. You're just taking advantage of the fact that your grandfather likes children, so you keep them to win his favor and to secure your position in the company. Am I right?"
In response to Derrick, Charles chuckled disdainfully. "Uncle, you misunderstand me. I have already had Bobby. How can I use my daughter to please grandpa? I know what you are thinking. You think the TS Group will be ruined in my hands, right?"
Charles was playing cat and mouse with them. If these shareholders were determined to oppose him, he had to find a way to buy some shares from individual shareholders, to increase his shares and prevent Derrick's scheme from succeeding.
The TS Group had developed well under his supervision. And Charles would not easily give up his years of hard work.
Several shareholders were not sure whether they should support Derrick. After all, what they valued was nothing more than interests.
They would follow whoever gave them more money.
So when they heard what Charles said, they replied in one voice, "We will follow whoever in the charge of the TS Group.
In that way, they wouldn't offend Derrick.
Charles also couldn't find any reason to punish them.
He had expected this result, so he looked at Derrick calmly and said, "Uncle, now the TS Group is still in my hands. I am still the president, so whether you like it or not, you have to listen to me. Now, the meeting is over!"
Hatred was evident in Derrick's eyes, but he had no choice but to leave sulkily.
After casting a glance at all the shareholders, Charles stood up and kicked away the swivel chair. "Don't think that I don't know who brought Derrick back. Don't get yourself into trouble, or you'll pay for it!" Then he strode away.
Several shareholders stood up gingerly.
"Who brought Derrick back? It's not me."
"Who knows? It's not me either."
No one was willing to admit it.
Indeed, the business world had always been so complicated.
Charles had been working hard in the business world for so many years, but he had never encountered such a difficult thing. This situation made him so frustrated.
But things had to be done little by little.
When Charles saw Nancy coming downstairs to greet him, the haze in his heart instantly disappeared without a trace.
He threw his tie on the sofa in the living room and walked over with a smile. He put his arm around her shoulder and asked, "Are you waiting for me?"
His voice was hoarse and bewitching.
With worried eyes, Nancy asked, "Yes, how is it going today?"
"It's okay. Everything is fine."
"Charles, we have to trust each other. Clearly, there's nothing going on between me and Edward. I don't know about the registration. I have to ask him when I have time, but I'm afraid that he... It's really embarrassing!" To be honest, what Nancy was more afraid of was that her relationship with Edward could be ruined by this incident.
Their relationship was beyond friendship, but it was still very fragile.
