Sweet Twins Indulge in Daddy's Love -
Chapter 371 Nancy's Concern
Nancy suddenly felt sorry for Charles. "It must be very hard for you."
Charles looked at Nancy in a daze, and then smiled, "I'm a man who has been in the business for years. I don't think this counts as hard."
Although he denied it, it felt good to be appreciated by Nancy.
Charles was very exhausted. He fell asleep soon after he lay down.
Worried about Edward, Nancy tossed and turned in bed and couldn't fall asleep. She didn't want to disturb Charles' rest so she put on clothes and left the room.
She tiptoed to Edward's room and heard his voice coming from inside.
With her heart hanging in her throat, she gently knocked on the door. "Edward, is there something wrong?"
Edward groaned but didn't answer.
Nancy pushed the door open and entered the room. When she turned on the light, she saw Edward curling up on the bed, grimacing in pain.
Nancy walked over to him and placed her hand on his forehead. "Edward, you seem to have a fever!"
"Nancy, I just... I just feel a little cold." Edward reached out and grabbed Nancy's hand.
"Edward, your hands are cold and your forehead is hot. Let me get you some medicine," said Nancy anxiously.
'Tm fine. There's no anti-inflammatory drugs or antipyretics in the house right now. And it's late; the pharmacy has closed. Please just stay with me," Edward murmured like a child. This was the first time that Nancy had seen Edward looking so fragile.
She always thought of him as invincible, but seeing him like that showed that he really was not!
Nancy brought another quilt for Edward and wrapped it around him. She then sat down beside his bed and tightly held his hands.
Edward was still cold, but after a while, his hands gradually warmed up.
"Nancy, it's so good to have you here!" Edward said gladly.
Nancy smiled at him. "Edward, get a good night's sleep. You'll be fine in a while."
Edward took a deep breath and said nothing.
Nancy looked at Edward, whose face had stubble. He was a good-looking man. Occasionally, Edward would say something that puzzled her. "Nancy, do you think I am handsome?" "Nancy, will you be happy if the two of us got married?"
"Nancy, you are so beautiful today!"
Recalling memories from the past, Nancy felt her eyes burning. Tears started to stroll down her cheeks.
Edward sighed, almost inaudible. Yes, he could remember all those wonderful moments they shared, but in the end, he still lost her!
When sleeping, Charles had a habit of searching for Nancy's hand everytime he turned over. As soon as he got a hold of her hand, he immediately fell back to sleep.
He did the same tonight, but when he reached out his hand, there was nothing but empty sheets.
Charles sat up with a start. By this time, the sky had turned pale. Under the gray light, he saw that Nancy was not beside him.
Well, where did she go?
Edward... Could it be? 'Nancy, I know that you have worried about Edward's wound, but you shouldn't go to his room at night.
You could go, but you shouldn't do it in secret.
Are you afraid that I would be jealous?'
Charles' heart skipped a beat. Indeed, he felt jealous.
A little upset, he walked out of the bedroom and walked over to Edward's door.
He raised his hand to knock, but he suddenly hesitated and changed his mind.
Instead, Charles opted to gently push the door open. The room was bright with the light on. He saw Nancy sitting at the edge of Edward's bed. He was muttering something. Edward held her hand tightly. Nancy didn't say a word. She pursed her lips and looked very sad.
Charles looked at Edward who was covered with two thick quilts. He paused for a while to think. He decided not to go inside and went downstairs instead.
He knew that the pharmacy was closed at this time. Besides, the house was far from downtown, so it was impossible to get a hold of some medicine.
So he called Jay to ask if there was anti-inflammatory drugs or antipyretics in his house.
Jay was sleeping soundly when his phone rang. It was Charles so he immediately sat up and answered the call.
"Charles, what's up?" Jay pressed his chest. He felt tense from the sudden shift.
"Do you have anti-inflammatory drugs or antipyretics? Edward seems to have a fever..."
"Doris likes to stock up on pills at home. I'll see if I can find some anti-inflammatory drugs and antipyretics for you." Jay immediately got out of bed.
Charles told him the address and asked him to drive there.
Of course, Jay didn't dare to neglect his friend's request. He found anti-inflammatory drugs and brought them over in a hurry.
"Charles, how is Edward? Does he need to go to the hospital?" Jay asked as he handed the medicine to Charles.
"He... He won't die. There is no need!" Charles said angrily, thinking of the expression on Nancy's face as she sat in Edward's room. "Well, he didn't do anything to offend you so don't be jealous. Go back inside now. Edward is waiting for you." Jay grinned at him, teasing.
"Well, Doris is waiting for you!" Charles snickered.
"Of course Doris will wait for me. Ha-ha! There is no man like Edward around her so I have nothing to worry about!" Jay was teasing Charles on purpose.
So Charles retorted, "Not necessarily. I heard from Nancy that Doris had an old flame. You don't know about that?"
Jay was astounded. "Who are you talking about? What's his name?"
Charles raised his eyebrows. "I don't know!"
Then he turned around and left.
"Hey, Charles, buddy! Please tell me his name." Jay felt jealousy creeping up in his heart so he kept on asking.
But Charles just ignored him and continued to walk away.
"Doris, why didn't you tell me that you had an old flame? All this time, I thought I was the only one between us who had been in love before. I didn't expect such a heartless and bad-tempered woman like you to have been in love before. I can't just let it go!" Jay muttered to himself as he drove on his way back home. He decided that he would find out who that man was no matter what.
When Charles came back with the medicine, Nancy happened to come out of Edward's room.
Seeing Charles, Nancy abruptly lowered her head.
Charles handed over the medicine. "Go and give it to Edward."
"Thank you, Charles." Nancy took the medicine and her eyes turned red.
She didn't expect that Charles would put that much effort in getting the medicine Edward needed.
He was not as indifferent to Edward as she thought, after all!
When Nancy got a hold of the medicine, Charles suddenly gripped the medicine harder. She couldn't pull it out of his hands.
She looked at Charles in confusion.
"Nancy, tell me, what did you say just now?"
Charles was a little angry due to Nancy's alienation.
I..." Not knowing what she had said wrong, Nancy was
so nervous that her palms were full of sweat. "Oh, I thanked you for Edward. It's so early yet you still went out to buy him medicine."
