Sweet Twins Indulge in Daddy's Love -
Chapter 310 Be Somehow Jealous
The man with the beard aimed to hit Edward's chest, but before making contact, Edward had already grabbed his hand. He pushed him back roughly; the man staggering before hitting the ground. Bobby and Nadia watched them fight, their mouths gaping. When the man fell to the ground, they clapped their hands and cheered, "Awesome!"
Edward turned to face the children, his chest heaving. Amused with their astonished faces, he winked at them. "Call me dad?" he asked playfully.
"Dad!" the two children shouted in unison.
Nancy blushed as she watched their exchange.
"Hey! You wait and see! I'll teach you a lesson..." the man grumbled incoherently. Despite his threats, the man knew he was no match for Edward. He'd experienced his fair share of fights and knew when to cut his losses. He struggled to get himself upright, and then walked away, feeling humiliated.
"Are they... your children? Are you... married now?" Edward asked.
There was a twinge of disappointment in his voice.
"Not married," Nancy clarified. "But you're right. These are my kids!"
"Dad, I'm mommy's biological daughter, but my brother Bobby isn't!" Nadia interrupted. She still couldn't fully comprehend the relationship between her and Bobby. In her mind, Bobby was Charles' child and Nadia was Nancy's.
Even though the two had a close relationship, and spent countless hours together every day, they were not the same mother's children.
"Dad, don't listen to Nadia! I'm also mommy's child!" Bobby grumbled unhappily.
Edward smoothed his hair and said, "This sounds a bit complicated..."
"It's a long story. I'll tell you about it another time," Nancy said, taking a deep breath. "Why are you here, Edward? Are you here to have dinner? You haven't eaten yet, have you? I'll treat you to a meal, to repay you for all the trouble," she offered.
"Ah, yes. As soon as I came in, I saw that bastard bullying the kid. I didn't even get a chance to order," he said sheepishly, scratching the back of his head. "Don't worry about it! It's my treat," he argued. He paused before saying, "For old time's sake."
"Yes, sir!" When Nancy spent time abroad, Edward never let her pay for any of her meals. He would always treat her, but she never got the chance to repay the favor. "Edward, you just came back! I should treat you to a meal, I insist."
"Okay, whatever you say! Thank you," he replied in a playful tone.
"You're very welcome. What would you like to eat?" she asked with a bright smile.
Edward smiled back at her gently. His smiling eyes reminded her of the sun. It was a smile that was neither arrogant nor imposing, but gentle and warm.
His voice wasn't too fast or too slow, but just right. It was charming and attractive. Everything about him was.
Edward motioned for her to take a seat, before sitting beside her. "You are my host and I am your humble guest. I'll eat whatever you order."
Nancy looked over the menu, saying, "I remember you liking fried goose liver, large meatballs, and fish-flavored shredded pork..."
He smiled at her thoughtfulness. He reached out and gently took the menu from Nancy's hands. "I'm touched that you still remember all my favorite foods. There's no need to order that much, though. Order some for the children and let them eat more. I'm trying to lose weight, anyway."
Bobby exchanged a mischievous look with Nadia and thought, 'This 'dad' is cool!'
"Alright, I hear you. I won't order too much." Nancy gestured for the waiter and ordered two more glasses of orange juice and a bottle of red wine.
"How have you been, Nancy?" Edward looked at her thoughtfully.
"I've been..." she paused, struggling to find the right words. "Okay," she finally said, taking a deep breath.
"It seems like you have something on your mind. You know you can talk to me if you have any problems. Your problems are my problems, right?" He nudged her arm softly.
"I'm fine, Edward." Nancy wondered how she would tell Edward about what happened between Charles and her.
She decided she wouldn't dive into too many details about her past if he asked.
"I've been thinking about you since I came back. I'm worried about you. But if you insist you're okay, then I'm okay," he reassured her.
"I know, I know."
Nancy remembered how kind Edward had always been to her. For the last five years, he had been the only man who always treated her with kindness.
There was no need to have her guard up with him. She felt comfortable around him, knowing she could be as carefree as a child whenever he was around.
It was ten o'clock in the evening when the dinner party finally ended.
Charles couldn't wait to come home and be with Nancy and his children.
He drove back home in a rush, excited to see them.
Finally arriving home, he found all the lights off.
Charles was confused. By this time, Nancy and the children should've been home already. 'Why aren't they back yet?
Where did they go?' he thought.
He began to feel anxious. His initial reaction was to reach for his phone and call Nancy.
Nancy heard her phone ring and glanced at Edward to excuse herself. She walked aside and answered, "Hello II
"Why isn't anyone home yet? Where are the kids?" Charles questioned impatiently.
"Oh, the kids and I are having dinner with Edward. We'll be home in a little while," she replied in a low voice.
"Edward? Who is he?" Charles questioned. It was the first time he was hearing any mention of his name.
"He's my nominal brother, from when I was abroad. He 's very kind to me," Nancy explained.
"Kinder than me?" he retorted. Charles found himself growing more jealous. He knew it would be better if he spoke more kindly to her, but couldn't help his jealousy. He thought back to the suspicious look on Nancy's face this morning when she checked her phone.
'Was she talking to Edward then?' he considered.
The more he thought about it, the more discouraged he felt.
Nancy felt that Charles was acting unreasonably. Edward just come back from abroad, and she hadn't seen him in a long time. Charles didn't know him at all. Why was he being so jealous?
Growing frustrated with him, she said, "I'm hanging up now, Charles. I'll see you at home."
"Nancy? Hello..." He wanted to ask which restaurant they were eating at, but she had already ended his call.
Irritated with the call, he cursed to himself in a low voice. He didn't want to go home at all and wanted to find Nancy and the children.
Calling Hiram, he asked him to find out their location. He had no idea where they were.
In a few seconds, Hiram had already located the restaurant they were dining at.
"Keep an eye on them. I'll be there in a minute," Charles grumbled. He then drove to the restaurant.
Hiram shrugged helplessly and thought, 'When is my boss ever going to feel secure about Nancy? Why does he always feel like he's about to lose her?'
Hiram didn't dare protest against his boss and parked the car outside. He watched Nancy and Edward having dinner with the children, talking, and laughing. 'This doesn't look good...' he thought, bracing himself.
Even though it was already late, they didn't look like they were leaving any time soon.
With a sigh, Hiram leaned against the car and lit a cigarette.
Before long, Charles parked his car near Hiram and
walked out.
His handsome face was as cold as ice as he asked, "Where are they?"
Hiram raised his chin and said, "They're right there having dinner!"
Charles looked to where he was pointing, and his heart dropped.
He saw Bobby and Nadia smiling brightly. 'How could they be that comfortable around Edward?'
