Sweet Mischief’s Rollercoaster Romance -
Chapter 491
Chad asked again, "So what did you have for dinner?"
"Dad got me a big beef burger, and he also got some orange juice and milk."
As the siblings were chatting, Kendrick up ahead received a call. After hanging up, he called out to his daughter, "Molly, come join your mom for a walk." "Okay, coming." Molly quickly told Chad, "I'm going to walk with mom."
"Alright, don't be out too late."
Kendrick stepped away from his wife and daughter to answer the call. "Hey, Sis. If you're still worried about Dave and your husband's job, I can't help you."
Juliana wanted to argue, but Vivian quickly stopped her stepmother and shook her head. "Little bro, I don't mean any harm. I just wanted to check on Coleen's health. I didn't visit during her surgery, and now with our mom getting older and you and Chad busy with work, I wanted to help take care of Coleen for a few days."
Kendrick couldn't believe his sister's sudden change of heart. Just a few days ago, she kept asking him how long his wife had left to live.
Kendrick replied, "No need. Molly's taking care of her mom and Coleen's recovering well."
Juliana insisted, "As the eldest sister, it's only right for me to visit my sister-in-law. I mean well."
"I appreciate the sentiment, but really, there's no need. Go home."
With that, Kendrick ended the call.
On the other end, Juliana cursed, "Vivian, didn't you say if I spoke nicely, your uncle would let me visit? Now, I'm all riled up. He's got a wife now and doesn't care about his sister anymore. Heartless!"
Vivian frowned. It seemed Kendrick was firm in his decision.
Back at the hospital, Coleen casually asked, "Who was that?"
""Just work."
As the night grew cold, Coleen's hands began to chill, and the three decided to head back.
Since Coleen was still undergoing cancer screenings, her discharge was delayed.
These days, Molly had been the most hardworking. Chad watched her efforts with an aching heart.
Every time they passed the nurse's station, he'd guide Molly to the scale to weigh herself.
"Wow, bro, I've lost six pounds. That's amazing."
Molly's excitement didn't align with Chad's concern.
It seemed only the person losing weight was happy, while their family members were worried.
As Jade lost weight, she was happy, but it cost Chad three months of his salary.
Coleen jokingly told her daughter, "Don't just spend money, learn to earn it as well."
Molly cleverly replied, "Mom, you don't understand. We're in the fashion business, right? As the daughter of the powerful businesswoman Coleen, I need to understand the market, investigate it, and stay ahead in aesthetics. So, don't I need to shop and buy clothes often? Of course, I also need to wear them and personally feel the pros and cons of the design. So, I'm not spending money, I'm being a 'guinea pig' for the company. It's a great sacrifice."
At that time, the whole Byrne family in the hospital room was listening to Molly's lofty justifications.
Coleen smiled at her daughter, "That's quite a hardship. But why are you always spending my son's money?"
Chad also chuckled at his sister.
Molly replied, "I'm used to it."
That one sentence made everyone in the room burst into laughter.
Suddenly, Chad received a call from his apprentice, "Boss, a woman is here looking for you. She's carrying a lunchbox."
"A woman?" Chad was puzzled, "Is she a relative of a complainant?"
"No, I don't recognize her. She's just sitting in our station, I've never seen her before. She says her last name is Sun."
Chad couldn't think of who it could be, so he returned to the station.
When he arrived, he saw Vivian.
It suddenly occurred to him that Vivian's last name was Sun.
"Chad, have you had lunch yet? I made this for you."
Chad didn't bring her into his office, but asked her right in the lobby, "Why are you here?"
"I wanted to visit Auntie in the hospital and see if there's anything I can help with, but Grandma won't let us go. So, I had to come find you." Vivian had dressed up specially in a dress and a sweater, making herself look gentle and sweet. She had also put on delicate makeup, appearing rather pitiful. While waiting for Chad, several single male officers had glanced at her.
She thought her frail look was a success.
But in Chad's eyes, his displeasure was almost written on his face.
He looked stern, his eyes sharp, and scolded Vivian in front of his subordinates. "What is this place? Is it somewhere you can just come and go as you please? If you want to deliver meals, do it outside. The police station only receives complainants." After reprimanding her, Vivian started crying, "Chad, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to."
Everyone saw Officer Chad was angry and held their breaths, afraid to speak for fear of his wrath.
Chad was not fond of women wearing heavy makeup, spraying pungent perfume, and crying in front of him.
He was irritated, "Donnie, see her out."
"Yes, sir!"
Donnie looked at Vivian, maintaining a distance as he escorted her out. "Vivian, our station is a formal place. If everyone starts delivering meals here casually, it'll be chaos. We have rules and regulations, and violators will be fined." Vivian wiped her tears, looking pitifully at Donnie.
"Officer Zhou, I'm sorry, could you apologize to Chad for me?"
Donnie replied, "My boss is just like this. Except for Molly, he's not nice to anyone."
Vivian noticed Donnie had a special relationship with Chad and asked, "Do you know how Chad's mother is doing? I'm genuinely worried."
Donnie: ??
Coleen's hospitalization was a secret Chad had kept. As a result, his colleagues were unaware of it. Donnie only found out from Vivian.
When he returned and told his colleagues, they all wanted to visit Coleen. "Boss, why didn't you tell us about this big event at home? We would have visited Auntie in the hospital."
Chad replied, "It's a minor surgery, she'll be discharged in a few days."
"Donnie, you've got to at least tell me, boss. Even if I don't visit your mom in the hospital, I can take your night shift so you can take care of her," Donnie pleaded.
Cody chimed in, "Skipper, you should take a break from night shifts. We can take turns covering for you."
Chad appreciated their concern. "My mom has Molly with her all the time, and my work isn't getting delayed." Speaking of Molly, it seemed like they hadn't seen the young lady in a while.
But that very night, she showed up.
"Bro, come pick me up, my fingers are about to snap off!" Jade's shout was enough to pull Chad out of his office.
Seeing Molly, Chad couldn't help but grin.
Spotting the takeout food box she was carrying, he rushed over to help, asking softly, "Didn't we just meet at noon? What brings you here again?"
Molly responded cheerily, "I'm just happy."
The cops who'd seen Officer Chad reprimanding Vivian at noon, and now were witnessing his interaction with Molly, all understood one thing clearly: Molly would always be the exception for their Skipper.
