Saving His Feral Mate
Chapter 33: We can trust him

Alpha Knox POV

After I took care of Kyle, I had some harsh words for Veronica. She was aware that he had a pregnant mate, yet still did what she did. For her punishment, I demoted her to Omega. She was one of my strongest female warriors and I knew the demotion would be a hard pill for her to swallow. She’ll have to earn back her rank and it’s not going to be an easy task. She was a sobbing mess, which only irritated me further. I certainly had no pity for her.

Once I was done with Veronica, I went and checked on Sheryl. Sheryl was sleeping, but the whimpers that left her lips broke my heart. How could my brother do this to person that is meant to be the other half of his soul? The moon goddess certainly dropped the ball when it came to them.

“Hey, how is she?” I asked Tatiana who was sitting in a chair beside the bed.

“As good as you could expect. She hasn’t stopped whimpering in her sleep.” She replied with a concerned sigh.

“What did you do to Kyle?” She asked with a curious frown.

“Don’t worry about him. He won’t be able to hurt her again.” I replied and I could tell she wanted to push further, but didn’t. Honestly I was grateful for that, because although I hated what my brother did, it pains me to lock him away. I don’t even know what I’m going to do with him yet.

We were distracted from our conversation when there was a knock at the door.

I made my way over and opened it. My father and mother stood on the other side and both looked furious.

“What is this I hear about you locking up your brother in the dungeon?” My father seethed.

“Keep your voice down, Sheryl’s sleeping.” I whisper yelled.

“Let’s go to my office and talk.” I added. My father didn’t even reply, he just turned away from me and stormed down the hall towards my office. My mother glared, before following my father.

I turned to look at Tatiana, who looked both concerned and curious. Probably wondering how I’m going to deal with my parents wrath.

“Will you stay with Sheryl? I need to deal with them.” I asked, while motioning to the door with my head.

“Of course.” She replied and I left the room.

I made my way to my office and found my parents pacing in front of my desk. They both still looked furious.

“What have you done?” My father boomed and I didn’t reply right away. I calmly walked around my desk and took a seat, before turning my attention to them.

“Sit.” I ordered sternly. I wasn’t about to let my father undermine my decision.

He hesitated for a minute, trying to challenge me with his eyes, but I didn’t back down. I met his glare with my own stern eyes and he eventually submitted and took a seat. My mother followed his lead and sat down next to him.

“Kyle nearly killed his unborn pup today. The doctor confirmed it.” I started and both their eyes widened in shock.

“What do you mean?” My mother whispered and the shock was clear in her tone.

“He cheated on Sheryl today. Tatiana found her on the floor in front of her room screaming in agony. The doctor came and confirmed that this type of trauma could of caused a miscarriage.” I explained. My mother looked mortified and my father still had the same shocked expression on his face.

“He wouldn’t.” My mother once again whispered, but I could see the doubt in her eyes.

“I found him leaving Veronica’s room and she admitted it to me. He did it mother, knowing damn well what he was doing to his mate and pup.” I replied harshly. My father’s mouth opened and closed several times. I could tell he was trying to think of what to say, but couldn’t find the words.

“Is Sheryl ok?” My mother asked and the sympathy in her voice was clear. My mother loved Sheryl like a daughter, I’m not surprised that her attitude has changed now that she knows the truth.

“She’s as good as you would expect someone to be, after their mate betrayed them like that.” I replied dryly and saw her flinch at my harsh words.

“What are you going to do with Kyle?” My father asked. The anger in his voice was long gone and was now replaced with concern.

“I demoted Veronica for her punishment, but I’m not sure what to do about Kyle. He deserves so much worse than a demotion. I’m going to wait till Sheryl wakes up, I want to talk to her first. One thing’s for sure, I won’t let him hurt her unborn pup, even if I have to keep him locked up until after the baby’s born.” I replied, while rubbing my hands over my face in frustration.

“Can I see him?” My mother asked and now there was a hint of anger in her voice.

“Yes.” I replied with a nod.

My father was quiet, he looked deep in thought. I could tell he was pondering the information I gave him. Not even my father can defend Kyle’s actions. No good man would ever intentionally bring harm to their own flesh and b***d, like he did.

“You did the right thing.” My father finally admitted. I knew it pained him to say those words, but I’m glad he did. I’m also glad they see the severity of the situation and aren’t trying to defend Kyle’s actions. He dug his own grave today, now he can lay in it.

“He’s a disgrace to this family. I’m embarrassed to call him my son.” My mother spat out and it was my turn to look shocked. I knew she would be mad, but I wasn’t expecting such harsh words from her.

“Calm down, Connie. How about we go talk to him, hear what he has to say for himself?” My father suggested.

“There’s nothing he could say to change my mind, he hurt his own mate on purpose. I hope she rejects him, he deserves it.” My mother replied defiantly, while crossing her arms over her chest.

I was proud of her for seeing everything in the right light. It was a breath of fresh air watching her stand her ground against my father. She was usually fast to go along with whatever he said, but that wasn’t the case today.

“Let’s go talk to him.” My father sighed in defeat. My mother didn’t reply, she simply stood up abruptly and stormed out of the room. My father’s troubled gaze landed on me one last time, before he followed my mother out of the room.

Well, I have to say, that went better than I was expecting.

Tatiana POV

After Knox left to talk with his parents, Max stopped by to checkin on Sheryl. She told me how Knox beat the s**t out of Kyle and locked him up in the dungeon. Chloe and I listened to Max tell the story and were shocked. Kyle is his brother and I figured he would be softer on him because of that.

I’ll be the first to admit that I was wrong. Knox continues to surprise me each and everyday. His pack members love him and respect his leadership. He’s nothing like my previous Alpha and continues to prove that to me.

Max eventually had to leave. She grumbled something about her and Jo going on a date. I was happy to see her giving him a chance. They’re good for each other and I can see that Jo really cares for her. Max still tried to act tough, but I can see through her act. She likes Jo, even if she won’t admit it yet. I was brought out of my thoughts when Chloe spoke up.

‘I’m really starting to believe we can trust Knox, Tat.’ Chloe said softly in my head.

‘I’ll be honestly with you, I’m struggling to find anything negative about the man.’ I replied honestly.

‘Maybe we should try stepping out of our comfort zone a little, you know, lower our walls a bit.’ Chloe suggested and I sighed in defeat.

‘If I let one of my walls down, you have to do the same.’ I bargained.

‘Deal.’ She squealed excitedly and I couldn’t help the smile that spread on my face.

Deep down I feel safe around Knox and he hasn’t done a single thing to make me doubt him. He’s been nothing but truthful with me and hasn’t giving me a reason not to trust him.

I had been sitting in the room for over an hour, just pondering my thoughts when there was a light knock at the door. Before I could respond, the door opened and Knox walked in. A smile spread across his handsome face when our eyes locked.

I stood from the chair and made my way over to him, determined to start letting him in.

Before he could speak, I reached up and grabbed the back his neck, before pulling his face down to meet mine.

I locked my lips with his and kissed him passionately. He was frozen for second, clearly not expecting the action, but quickly came to his senses and returned the k**s. He wrapped his arms around my waist, before pulling me tight against his body.

This k**s felt different from when Chloe had taken over. There was l**t swirling around us, but I felt more vulnerable and nervous. Butterflies were fluttering in my stomach and the k**s felt right. Maybe this is what Chloe and I needed to start healing from all the trauma Alpha Cameron put us through?

We kissed until we were both out of breath and had to pull away for air.

“I’m definitely not complaining, but what was that for?” He asked, while trying to catch his breath.

“Max told me what you did to Kyle and I’m sorry.” I replied and I could see the confusion in his eyes.

“Sorry for what?” He asked with a frown.

“For doubting you. I’ll be honest, I thought you would go easy on Kyle because he was your brother, but you didn’t.” I replied truthfully.

“Thank you. You have no idea how much that means to me, especially coming from you.” He said with a genuine smile, his arms were still wrapped around my waist.

“Well, I can admit when I’m wrong and I was.” I said with a shrug.

“But don’t let it go to your head, Alpha.” I teased and we both laughed.

“Maybe once Sheryl is up and we know she’s ok, I can take you out for dinner?” Knox asked sounding hopeful.

“I would like that.” I replied.

Dinner was a great idea. It would be a perfect opportunity for Chloe to hold up her end of the deal and talk to Knox for the first time. I also think it’s time we open up to him about our past and first mate.

I’m nervous and not looking forward to reliving the past, but it has to be done. There’s no way for Knox and I to move forward if I don’t open up to him.

I don’t know what he’s going to think about everything, but I hope I can trust him not to give my whereabouts away to Alpha Cameron. I did commit a crime after all, when I bit Alpha Cameron’s finger off. Knox might not want put his pack at risk by letting me stay here. I wouldn’t blame him if he asked me to leave, but I would be disappointed.

‘He won’t. He’s nothing like Alpha Cameron and I truly believe he’ll protect us.” Chloe spoke confidently in my head.

‘I hope so. We’ll find out soon enough.’ I replied with a nervous sigh.

“Why don’t you go back to your room and relax. I can stay with Sheryl for a bit.” Knox suggested, bring me out of my thoughts.

“Thanks, I’ll come back in a little bit.” I replied.

He leaned down and kissed my lips, before releasing the hold on my waist. I actually felt cold at the lost of contact and was disappointed that he was no longer touching me.

As soon as I left the room, I found myself missing him. This was a new feeling and I wonder if it’s because we’re finally starting to accept the bond?
