Return of the Prodigy Chapter 44
Emma and Renna immediately turned to look at Adam.
Did he call out to us? What is he going to say?
"Thank you for what you did today," Adam said.
The twins blushed. They lowered their heads and stammered, "The-There is no need to thank us."
"Ye-Yeah, it's not like we helped much."
Adam continued, "I'm happy that you decided to make a fresh start."
"Really?" The twins were excited at his remark.
Adam recognizing their efforts made them very happy.
Katie had no idea what was going on, and looked at Adam inquisitively.
Adam turned to look at Katie and said, "Katie, you're lacking manpower, right?"
Katie understood what Adam meant and nodded. After all, it was not the first time he was recruiting people for her sake.
"If you want, you can work at my wife's company," said Adam.
"We accept!" replied the sisters in unison.
The twins would never have thought that helping Adam would be a life-changing decision for them.
Eventually, Peter was taken away by the police, and the Hartleys did not dare to make a fuss while Adam was around.
"We should also take our leave." Adam grabbed Katie's hand and picked Annie up, taking large strides away from the Hartleys' residence.
Back at the hotel, Katie hugged her daughter tightly, afraid that Annie would disappear if she were to leave her for even a second.
"Katie, it's all right. Annie is just sleeping. I'll bring her to her room, and we can sit by the bedside, okay?
"I ordered some food, so you should take a shower and change. You don't have to worry about anything. With me here, something like this won't happen ever again." After Adam's gentle urging, Katie finally nodded and headed to the bathroom. However, her eyes never left her daughter.
After taking a shower and changing into her pajamas, Katie's mood improved a little.
Adam was by the bedside, arranging the chairs and the small table he had dragged over from the kitchen. He then opened a bottle of red wine to help Katie relax. Katie hesitated a moment before asking, "Why didn't you go to save Annie first?"
Adam had expected that she would ask this question. He said with a smile, "No matter how vile Peter is, he wouldn't want to implicate his sister in this matter. Matilda was the one to pick up Annie, and the teachers at the kindergarten all saw it. If Annie were to disappear all of a sudden, Matilda would be accused of child trafficking. Therefore, their plan wasn't to hurt Annie but rather to use her to lead me astray."
Katie was stunned, realizing that she had overlooked the relationship between Matilda and Peter. However, she still eyed her husband sternly and said, "Hypothetically speaking, if there is a next time, you must save our daughter first." Adam took Katie's hand and said gently, "Don't worry, something like this won't happen again."
"No, you have to promise me!"
Adam sighed, aware that Katie was still shaken. He pulled her closer into an embrace. "I promise you."
Katie leaned against his chest and closed her eyes, tears trickling down her face.

Meanwhile, in the Hartleys' residence.
All the family members were gathered, and the atmosphere was incredibly tense.
Dave was experiencing a rude awakening. He sat quietly at the head of the table, his expression gloomy.
Terry sobbed as he begged, "Dad, please say something! Peter is your grandson and sole successor. You have to save him!
"You can't just watch as he rots in prison. Kidnapping and premeditated murder are serious crimes that could even lead to a death sentence!"
Dave pounded the ground with his walking cane, roaring, "You're well aware that the crime is so serious, yet you want me to help him?! Just how, exactly, am I supposed to help him? Do you think I can bring him back by snapping my fingers? "Some son you raised, one who doesn't shy away even from murdering and kidnapping people! Usually, I turn a blind eye when you make things difficult for Katie and her family-no matter how you compete with each other in the company, that's ultimately our family's internal matter.
"But Peter really shat the bed this time around! Kidnapping and murdering people? That's against the law, and it means the matter is no longer confined within the boundaries of our family. Do you think this is appropriate behavior for someone who's supposed to inherit the company and lead our family?"
"What do you suggest to do then, Dad?" Terry gritted his teeth and asked, "Should we force Katie to go to the police station and close the case? As long as she says that she was never kidnapped, all the charges against Peter will be dropped! If she refuses to comply, we'll just drive her out of the family. The Hartleys will be doomed if we don't stop her from pursuing this path!"
Dave cursed at him, "Idiot, do you think that I didn't think of that? The problem is that Peter went way overboard this time, and there's no way Katie would agree!"
"Are things really going to end like this? Sooner or later, that bitch will even steal the company from you!" Terry howled like a madman.
Dave's face turned gloomy, but he eventually sighed. "There is nothing we can do this time. Lay low for the time being." "Dad...!"
"Grandfather, are you saying that we should just accept the way things are?"
The other family members protested.
"What can we do otherwise?" Dave snorted. "Do any of you have a solution?"
All the people that were protesting were stunned and quickly shut their mouths.
At this time, someone said, "I might have a solution."
In the next moment, a bespectacled man in a blue suit entered the villa.
"Dear?" Matilda was stunned.
"Daniel?"
"Daniel, are you back from the capital?"
Daniel smiled and walked up to Dave. "Grandfather, I might have a solution."

Back at Tarot Club, in the CEO's office.
Paul Booker coldly looked at the man opposite him.
The man seemed to be in his thirties. He wore a black suit and had long hair. He was fiddling with the green chip in his fingers, making it appear and disappear like a magician. "Mr. Booker, what is there to consider?
"As long as you nod, you'll receive 30% of the casino's profits. It should be a no-brainer as you won't be losing any money."
The man was calm and composed. He acted as if the person sitting opposite him was not the uncrowned king of Lisle's underworld, but an ordinary person.
"Hmph!" Paul snorted and replied, "I already told you that this is impossible. Lisle won't have any casinos. This is a rule here."
The man frowned and continued politely, "Mr. Booker, it seems you aren't aware of who I am. My name is Joseph Alfieri, but I prefer my nickname better, Shadowless Hand.
"I'm a gambler and like to solve the problems that come my way through wagers. Are you interested in making a bet with me?
"If I win, you'll agree to my proposal. As before, you'll receive 30% of the profits. If I lose, I'll leave immediately."
Paul said with a sneer, "You might be a gambler, but I'm not. It's futile to use your petty tricks to hoodwink me. Get out of here and stop bothering me!"
Joseph kept smiling and did not lose his calm. "Everyone is a gambler deep down. If they don't gamble, it's only because the stakes aren't high enough. In that case, let's change the stakes. Do we want to bet for how long you can keep your throne, Mr. Booker?" "Son of a bitch, you're looking to die, aren't you?" cursed the bodyguard beside Paul.
Paul's face also fell. "Are you implying that you'll use violence if I were to refuse your offer?"
Joseph kept playing with the chip in his hand. "That's certainly one way to look at it."
"Hehe, you sure have the guts to come to Lisle and challenge me. Guards, beat him to death!"
With that, the bodyguard beside him pounced forward.
Joseph immediately got up from his seat and appeared in front of the bodyguard, punching him in the face.
The bodyguard staggered backward.
Joseph did not stop and followed with another blow, kicking the bodyguard in the guts and making him vomit blood.
After dealing with the bodyguard, Joseph rushed toward Paul.
Paul frowned and tried to punch Joseph. However, Joseph easily caught Paul's fist and used his other hand to smash Paul's arm. Crack!
Paul's arm was broken.
"Ahhh!" Paul cried out and prepared to struggle when Joseph caught his throat, almost choking him.
However, Joseph had no intention of killing him. He let go before Paul could suffocate and walked toward the door, saying one last sentence before leaving.
"I'll be back tomorrow at this time. If you still refuse to cooperate, I'll show no mercy."
Paul fearfully watched Joseph's retreating figure, then enduring the pain, he called Black Dragon.
"Black Dragon, someone very dangerous has come to Lisle!"
