Mommy,We Got a Husband -
Chapter 66 He Kissed Her as Punishment
After Galatea had effectively kicked him out, Alaric's face turned an ugly shade of cold. Galatea knew she had upset him again.
"Ungrateful woman, I came all the way here to give you a cell phone, and you didn't even thank me. Now you're trying to kick me out?"
He had kicked her out of his car, causing her to come back in such a ragged state, and she was supposed to thank him.
"Since you've returned the phone, there's nothing else, is there?" Galatea retorted. "Besides, you despise my humble place so much. Why should I want you to stay?" Alaric fell silent.
Deciding not to leave, Alaric simply sat down on the sofa, making his intention clear.
Galatea froze. What was this man trying to do? Stay for dinner?
"Your son is coming back later, right?" Alaric probed, somewhat looking for an excuse. "I haven't met your son yet."
"He has an after-school program. They won't be back until late."
"No problem, I can wait."
Galatea remained silent.
At that moment, her computer pinged with a notification. Galatea glanced towards her home office, then back at Alaric who clearly wasn't going anywhere soon.
"Well, you can wait then. There's hot water in the teapot on the coffee table if you get thirsty." With that, Galatea turned and went into her office.
She had several messages from patients seeking advice on medical issues, and she began to answer each one based on the symptoms they described.
"Who are you chatting with?"
Galatea jumped when Alaric suddenly appeared behind her, his question taking her by surprise.
"Weren't you in the living room? Who let you in here?"
"I'm asking who you are chatting with?" Alaric questioned again, more earnestly this time.
"Patients, people who are sick!" Galatea snapped back, annoyed. "Are we done here?"
"Patients?"
"Yes," Galatea explained. "I can't work at the hospital right now, but I can give medical consultations online."
Galatea was undoubtedly an expert in her field, fully qualified to offer online medical consultations to the unwell denizens of the internet. Just take today, for example - as soon as she posted her availability online, there were plenty of people who booked her time to seek advice.
"How can you be so forgetful? You're supposed to be resting right now. The doctor said you need more sleep," Alaric reminded her.
"I am a doctor. I know how to take care of myself," Galatea retorted. "Consulting online isn't exhausting, plus I earn an income. Isn't that good?"
She really couldn't sit still!
"Fine, Mr. Knight, if you're going to wait, please wait in the living room and don't disturb my work."
"Call me Alaric!"
"What?" Galatea was startled. Why was he making such a request out of the blue?
"I've told you already, you're to be seen as my fiancee," Alaric explained. "Once the amusement park project we're bidding on starts, we'll have a groundbreaking ceremony and a series of celebrations, including a victory banquet. As my fiancee, you'll have to attend with me. To avoid any slip-ups, you should naturally call me by my first name."
"Understood," Galatea responded. "Don't worry, I won't let you down in public."
"For safety's sake, you should call me that in private, too," Alaric instructed. "Say 'Alaric,' let me hear it."
Galatea thought he was being absurd.
"Alaric..." she said, her voice stiff.
"Too stiff! Is that how a fiancee should address her betrothed?"
She really felt like cursing at him. Was he picking a fight on purpose?
Alright, then!
"My dear Alaric," she said with a seductive tone, then asked, "Is that better?"
Her allure, although feigned, indeed had its effect, causing Alaric to take her chin in his grip and remind her, "If you're going to pretend to be my fiancee, you need to act the part. Call me that from now on, you got it?" From now on? Was he shameless?
"Speak up." Seeing Galatea didn't respond, Alaric prompted her again.
"Got it," she replied and pushed his hand away.
Just as Alaric was about to say something else, his phone began to ring. Seeing it was Caspian calling, he quickly picked up.
"Hello, Caspian."
"Where have you been?" Harry's voice came through, clearly annoyed. "Do you realize I don't live on campus anymore? I've already come home from school, and you're nowhere to be found. If you aren't cooking dinner, is it because you want to starve me to death?"
Alaric had been so focused on finding Galatea that he had completely forgotten about Caspian.
Recently, Caspian had been quite irritable, and since Alaric hadn't followed through on his promise, he felt guilty. He was also worried that Caspian's illness might flare up again, so he had no choice but to agree.
"I've got an emergency at the office. I'm heading back now," Alaric said accommodatingly. "Caspian, if you're hungry, you might want to snack on some cookies to tide you over."
"I don't want them. I'll just wait for you to come back and cook for me," Harry insisted, intent on giving his dad a hard time as a way of standing up for his mom.
"But..." Alaric hadn't even finished his sentence when Harry hung up the phone.
Galatea couldn't hear what the child was saying on the other end of the call, but she guessed as much from Alaric's reaction and couldn't help but smirk in schadenfreude. "Who would have thought the formidable CEO could be so easily wrapped around his son's finger?" she mused.
Alaric was indeed at a loss for face now.
"Your son is really quite spoiled. He's so old, yet he can't look after himself," Galatea added. "But you can't blame the child. There's a saying that if the son doesn't learn, it's the father's fault. You should take a look at yourself." "A woman who never lets things go, you've finally caught me out, haven't you?" Alaric retorted.
Galatea couldn't resist a victorious laugh and couldn't help but sing her own child's praises: "I'm just speaking the truth. It's your parenting methods that are at fault, leading to your son still being unable to fend for himself. My Harry was independent by the time he was three, and moreover..." She was cut off mid-sentence, completely unprepared for Alaric's sudden kiss-or more accurately, his retaliatory nip on her lip. "Alaric, you...!" she exclaimed.
"That's what you get for making fun of me!" Alaric released her lip with a threatening tone, "Next time you dare to mock me, the punishment won't be so simple." Galatea really wanted to hit him. he had the nerve to kiss her forcefully!
Alaric smiled smugly and then reiterated his standing order: "Keep your phone on twenty-four hours a day. No matter when I call, you need to pick up immediately."
After delivering his dictate, Alaric left. As soon as he was gone, Galatea ran to the bathroom, turned on the faucet, and frantically began to wash her lips. She was absolutely furious! Yet Alaric, having just kissed Galatea, sauntered away as if he had claimed a delicious prize, clearly in high spirits.
