Mommy,We Got a Husband -
Chapter 438 An Uninvited Guest at the Warm Family Dinner
Seeing Ambrose stroll in, Neil thought he looked a bit guilty.
He must be freaking out now, right? That was why he was scared Neil might spill something to Stuart.
"You're here to for Todd's case, right?" Neil asked.
"Really?" Ambrose replied, sounding genuinely excited. "Is there finally some progress on Todd's case? Who's the killer? Have they been caught?"
"Almost there," Neil said, pulling out a pack of cigarettes, taking one out, and handing it to Ambrose.
Ambrose glanced at the cigarette, realizing something, then took it. Neil lit it for him.
Ambrose had never smoked before. He tried to play it cool, but the first puff made his throat burn, and he couldn't help but cough.
"Looks like you don't know how to smoke, huh?"
Before Ambrose could respond, Tommy walked in with medicine in one hand and a cup of water in the other, respectfully saying, "Mr. Vale, it's time for your medication. The doctor said it can't be delayed." "Medication?" Neil asked, "Is Mr. Vale sick?"
"Mr. Vale's fine, just severe pharyngitis," Tommy said, handing him the medicine and water, then quickly taking the cigarette from his hand. "Mr. Vale, the doctor said with your condition, you shouldn't smoke." "I remember the doctor's words, but since Detective Jackson personally offered me a cigarette, I couldn't refuse," Ambrose replied smoothly.
"Mr. Vale, come on, you're putting me in a tough spot," Neil said, taking the medicine from him and examining it closely. It was indeed for pharyngitis.
Neil watched Ambrose take the medicine, then looked at Ambrose and Tommy, asking, "The people around Mr. Vale are really capable. Your previous assistant, Denny, was sharp, and this is..." "Tommy." Tommy quickly introduced himself.
"Right, Tommy. I remember. You were at Nexus Innovations before. Impressive! True talent always stands out, no matter where it's placed," Neil said, patting Tommy on the shoulder.
Tommy just smiled, and then Neil said to Stuart, "Stuart, I'll have my guys send you this surveillance footage later. Watch it carefully and get back to me. I won't disturb your work any longer. I'm out." "Detective Jackson, take care," Tommy politely saw him out.
Stuart never cared about Ambrose, so he never knew whether Ambrose smoked or not.
"What surveillance footage, Dad? Has Neil identified the killer?" Ambrose asked.
Stuart questioned, "Why do you care? I only gave you five months, and now almost half of it has passed. Alaric and Stellan are still alive and well. Ambrose, have you forgotten what I told you?" Stuart scolded angrily, "Even if the killer isn't Alaric, Todd died because of those two. Alaric and Stellan must both die!"
"Don't worry, Dad. I never forget your words."
After saying that, Ambrose quickly retreated to his office. He still felt a bit scared and turned to Tommy, praising him. "Good thing you reacted quickly."
"It was just a coincidence," Tommy said. "Neil had a reason for offering you a cigarette. I happen to have pharyngitis and had medicine in my pocket, so you were always meant to come out of this just fine." Ambrose had already vaguely figured Neil's intention with that move. They had cooperated well just now, so they should have temporarily covered it up.
"Neil is really annoying, always pestering."
"Those who display such obstinacy often meet an unfortunate end," Tommy said.
Ambrose took a deep breath. He was really tired, living on the edge every day.
Neil naturally wouldn't tell Alaric about today's situation. He'd wait until there was more progress to inform him. For now, let him focus on recovering.
Today, Alaric was feeling a bit off from the treatment injection, but it was way better than last time, so he was doing alright.
On the day of the injection, he felt fine, and by the next day, he was back to normal. A few days later, it was the weekend, and he decided to take Caspian, Harry, and Elisa to the amusement park.
"I told you to stay home and rest for these few months, but you insisted on going out," Stellan said, clearly worried but unable to stop Alaric.
"I've been cooped up at home for so long. I just wanted to hang out for a bit since I'm feeling pretty good," Alaric said.
"Don't worry, Mommy. Let Daddy go out and relax. We'll take good care of him," Elisa said.
"Yeah, staying at home all the time is super boring," Caspian added.
"Alright, since you're feeling good, you can go out for a bit, but don't overdo it," Stellan advised.
"Okay," Alaric suddenly thought of something and said, "It's the weekend, Aurora should be back. How about we go to Cormac's place tonight?"
"Yes, I'd love to!" Harry said excitedly, "I want to see Aunt Rowena's baby bump."
"Me too, me too!" Elisa chimed in..
"Then I'll call Rowena and let her know," Stellan said, quickly dialing Rowena's number. Rowena was thrilled to hear that the whole family was coming over that evening.
"You sit down and don't move. I'll handle dinner," Cormac said, stopping Rowena as she tried to head to the kitchen.
"That's too much trouble. How about we eat out?"
"You're in the early stages of pregnancy. Food outside isn't clean. I'll cook; it's no trouble at all."
With that, Cormac went into the kitchen. As Rowena tried to follow, Cormac quickly said, "The kitchen is full of smoke. Don't come near. Just wait in the living room, listen to some music, or read a book, okay?" Cormac was treating Rowena like a child, which made her smile. She obediently went to sit in the living room.
When Alaric's family of five arrived that evening, Cormac had already prepared a table full of dishes by himself.
"I didn't expect you to come today," Cormac said to Alaric. "Aren't you supposed to stay home? Is it okay for you to be out? Can your body handle it?"
"I'm not paralyzed. Why can't I go out?" Alaric retorted, then asked, "Where's Aurora? Hasn't she come back yet?"
"She'll be here soon," Cormac answered.
Sure enough, Aurora arrived shortly after. Seeing her, Caspian, Harry, and Elisa enthusiastically ran to her.
"It's so lively today!" Aurora said, delighted to see the bustling house.
"Aurora, do you know why it's so lively today?" Elisa asked.
"Why?" Aurora asked, puzzled. "Is today a special day?"
"Aurora, look at this," Cormac said, handing her Rowena's pregnancy report. Aurora's eyes widened with surprise and joy after reading it. "Aunt Rowena is pregnant?!" "Yes, Aurora, I'm pregnant," Rowena confirmed.
"That's awesome!" Aurora exclaimed, jumping up with joy. "I'm going to be a big sister!"
Aurora was genuinely happy, and seeing her so joyful made Cormac and Rowena smile at each other.
Everyone then sat down, and Cormac poured himself a drink. "Alaric can't drink, but I need to have a drink. I'm just too happy."
"Drink up. Alaric can't drink, but Cormac, I'll join you for a drink," Stellan said.
"Alright."
The family dinner began, and with Alaric's condition improving and Rowena being pregnant, it was double the joy and happiness.
Just as they were enjoying themselves, the doorbell rang. Cormac checked the time; it was already past nine in the evening. Who could it be at this hour?
Cormac hurried to open the door, and to his shock, two police officers were standing outside.
"Is this Cormac's residence?" one of the officers asked.
"That's me," Cormac replied, feeling uneasy. "What can I do for you?"
"Is Griffon a relative of yours?"
Griffon?
It had been too long since he heard this name last time.
