Chapter 430 Mr. Knight, I Swear Every Word I Said Is True

Alaric's body jolted, and he dropped the book he was reading, his eyes boring into Hestia. Hestia couldn't bring herself to look at him, standing there with her head hanging low. "Say that again," Alaric demanded, his voice low and menacing.

Hestia's voice wavered, clearly terrified. "I said I saw what happened that day from the second floor. Mrs. Marigold Knight and Mrs. Stellan Knight were arguing. Mrs. Marigold Knight tried to snatch the phone from Mrs. Stellan Knight, but she wouldn't let go. They started fighting. Mrs. Marigold Knight got really mad and tried to grab the phone again, then Mrs. Stellan Knight pushed her. That push made Mrs. Marigold Knight fall down the stairs."

"Do you realize what you're saying? You're accusing my wife right to my face!" Alaric shouted, his anger boiling over.

Hestia quickly swore, "Mr. Knight, I wouldn't dare lie about Mrs. Stellan Knight! I saw it with my own eyes. Mrs. Stellan Knight didn't mean to do it; it was an accident. I'm not lying!"

"Then why did you wait so long to tell me? Why didn't you say anything before?" Alaric pressed on.

Hestia, trembling, replied, "I was too scared. The case was already closed, and I didn't dare speak up."

Alaric pushed further, "So why are you speaking up now?"

Hestia, now crying, said, "I've been having nightmares. I keep dreaming of Mrs. Marigold Knight blaming me for not telling you the truth. Even medication doesn't help. I had to come and tell you, or I'm afraid Mrs. Marigold Knight will come back as a ghost to haunt me."

Alaric stood up, slamming his hand on the desk. "There's no such thing as ghosts! You're talking nonsense!"

Hestia shook her head desperately, "I'm not making this up, Mr. Knight. Please believe me. I'm not lying. I served Mrs. Marigold Knight for many years. She died so tragically, and I saw it with my own eyes. I feel guilty for not speaking up."

Alaric questioned her, "You say you saw it. Do you have any proof?"

Hestia replied, "No, I just happened to see it. I know my words alone aren't enough, and it's understandable if you don't believe me, Mr. Knight. But I swear I'm not lying. Now that Mrs. Marigold Knight is dead and the case is closed, and you and Mrs. Stellan Knight have such a good relationship, I have no grudge against her. I have no reason to lie. I've struggled for so long to say this because I can't bear the guilt. Every word I say is true, Mr. Knight. Please believe me!" Alaric pondered, 'Marigold is dead, and she has no grudge against Stellan, so what she says must be true?'

"Mr. Knight, dinner is ready..." At this moment, Mia entered the room while speaking, inadvertently witnessing the scene.

Seeing Mia come in, Alaric said sternly, "Mia, leave us."

Mia was taken aback by the scene, then quickly exited and closed the door behind her.

Mia paused slightly at the study door, vaguely hearing words like Marigold and Stellan, but she didn't dare to listen further and quickly went downstairs. Hestia kept crying, her head down, looking all kinds of miserable.

Hestia begged, "Mr. Knight, please believe me. No one paid me. I saw it with my own eyes. I dropped out of high school and came to The Knight Manor to serve Mrs. Marigold Knight. I've been here all these years, always doing my job. If you find out I was bribed to slander Mrs. Stellan Knight, you can throw me in jail or even kill me. I swear every word I say is true."

Alaric stared at Hestia, who looked like she was ready to die to prove her point.

"Making empty accusations against Stellan and spreading rumors, you're fired," Alaric said flatly.

Hestia tried to say more. "Mr. Knight, I'm telling the truth..."

Alaric shouted, "I said you're fired. Get out!"

Hearing this, Hestia didn't dare say anything more and left, looking crushed.

After Hestia left, Alaric opened his computer and shot a message to Silas, telling him to have someone keep tabs on Hestia.

If Hestia was bribed, she'd contact those people after leaving. Of course, she wouldn't do it right away, so it would take a while. When Stellan got back, the first thing she asked Mia was, "Mia, how was Alaric today?"

Mia replied, "Mr. Knight was fine today. He spent most of the time in the study reading and ate well."

Hearing this, Stellan felt relieved. Usually, Alaric felt bad on the day of the treatment, but he felt better the next day.

Stellan nodded with a smile. "That's good. Is he in the study now? I'll go find him."

As she spoke, Stellan was about to head upstairs to the study when Mia stopped her. Seeing this, Stellan asked, "What's up, Mia?"

Mia looked upstairs to make sure Alaric hadn't come down, then whispered to Stellan, "Stellan, I went to call Mr. Knight for dinner earlier and saw Hestia standing in front of him, crying. After I came out, I overheard Hestia mentioning something about Mrs. Knight's death and you. I didn't catch the details."

Stellan was a bit stunned. "Hestia was standing in front of Alaric?"

Mia explained, "Hestia was transferred from the Knight Manor. After Mrs. Knight passed away, all the maids at the Knight Manor left. She said she had nowhere to go and had deep bonds with the Knight Family, so she came here." A maid from the Knight Manor?

Stellan asked, frowning, "Where is she now?"

Mia replied, "She ran out crying just before you came back."

Stellan looked outside. 'Is she fired or something else?'

"Okay, Mia, I get it. You can go back to your work." With that, Stellan went upstairs.

When Stellan entered the study, Alaric was staring intently at the computer screen. Seeing Stellan suddenly come in, Alaric quickly turned off the screen.

After all, it had surveillance footage from Far East International. If Stellan found out, she might confiscate all the electronic devices in the house.

"What were you looking at so intently just now?" Stellan asked, eyeing the computer screen he had just turned off.
