Mommy,We Got a Husband
Chapter 420 Ambrose, Are You Scared?

Even though Alaric told Stellan not to sweat it, how could she not?

"Last time, Josep said there wouldn't be any side effects after the treatment that night. I really thought it wouldn't mess him up. Guess I was too naive," Stellan felt bad for Alaric still being in pain. Alaric chimed in, "This is normal. How can treatment not hurt? The pain that night still gives me chills. Compared to that, I feel way better now, so chill."

Stellan was touched. Even in pain, he was trying to make her feel better. She couldn't let him see her worry.

"Alright, get some sleep. If you need anything, just holler at Mia," Stellan said.

"Okay." Alaric grabbed her hand and said, "I've sorted everything at the company. Just go. No one will dare to say anything."

Stellan felt moved. "Thanks, Alaric. I thought after what happened last time, you wouldn't trust me with the company anymore."

Alaric replied, "You're my wife, the one I trust the most. How could I not trust you? That was just a construction accident, nothing to do with you."

"Okay." Stellan nodded. "Don't worry, I'll do my best and not let you down. Now get some rest, I'm heading to the company."

She bent down, kissed his forehead, and walked out.

Once Stellan left, Alaric dropped the act. The pain was like a knot in his stomach, but he could handle it. He closed his eyes, trying to fall asleep fast.

Stellan drove to Nexus Innovations. Cormac was already waiting outside the office since it was her first day back after the accident.

Alaric had told him not to let her be mistreated, so Cormac showed up early.

Seeing him, Stellan greeted, "Hey, Cormac."

"You're back?" Cormac asked, "Did Alaric get his treatment shot today?"

"Yeah, it was supposed to be yesterday, but he had stuff to do at the company, so it got pushed to today. He was super cooperative today, just lying in bed waiting for me," Stellan said. "That's rare," Cormac commented, "When he was sick before, the doctors always had to remind him to get treatment, but he never took it seriously. Only you can get him to do it." "Of course, he's my husband and the father of our kids. His health isn't just his own call," Stellan said.

"True," Cormac said with a smile, "Since you're back, we need to have a meeting first. But don't worry, Alaric has already dealt with the higher-ups, they won't give you a hard time." Stellan nodded. "Got it. I'll get ready, and we'll head to the meeting room."

Today was a big day for Stellan. She was back as the acting director, and she had to nail it.

Alaric had to put his work on hold for treatment, hoping to breeze through these 140-plus days.

Today was a big deal for both Alaric and Stellan, but for Ambrose, it was pure torture. As the day was wrapping up, he knew if he didn't respond to Alaric, he might be looking at a long, scary prison sentence. But if he handed over the jewelry company to Alaric, it would make him look even guiltier to the public, and he wouldn't be able to explain it to Stuart.

It felt like a no-win situation. What was he supposed to do?

Especially since Alaric hadn't called to push him, which made him even more nervous. Did Alaric really have the goods on him?

As the deadline ticked by, Ambrose couldn't risk it and grabbed his phone to call Alaric.

When the phone rang, Alaric was half-asleep. Seeing it was Ambrose, he sat up and tried to sound normal. "Mr. Vale, have you made up your mind?"

"Yeah." Ambrose's tone had to be humble. "I don't know what evidence you have, but I'm worried it might hurt Far East International."

"So you're gonna hand over the jewelry company? That's fine," Alaric said coolly.

"I chose neither," Ambrose quickly said before Alaric could respond, "If I just give you the jewelry company for free, it's like admitting I'm guilty, so I can't do that."

"Mr. Knight, maybe you have some proof that I'm behind the slander, but you can't take my life, right? How about we both back off a bit?"

"I can't give you the jewelry company, but I can buy a piece of land and give it to you. Trust me, the land's worth more than the jewelry company. How about that?" Ambrose figured he could secretly buy some land for Alaric. If he gave away the jewelry company, Stuart would definitely find out.

"Ambrose, are you scared?" Alaric said mockingly, "I thought you'd pick the second option. This isn't like you."

Ambrose, a bit anxious, replied, "Alaric, don't be so smug. I've already backed off, giving you land worth more than the jewelry company. Let's meet half way, okay?" Alaric enjoyed seeing Ambrose grovel.

"Alright, Mr. Vale, since you're so sincere, why not?" Alaric said, "Go buy the land quickly. I'll have Silas contact you. Once the paperwork's done, I'll give you the evidence I have." Ambrose threatened, "Alaric, you better keep your word. If you trick me, even if it means mutual destruction, I'll make sure you go down!"

Alaric didn't even listen and hung up.

At that moment, Ambrose felt utterly disgusted, like he had swallowed a bug. How did he let Alaric catch him?

What evidence did Alaric have? Was it about the shady acquisition of the jewelry company? Or bribing hackers to post slanderous messages? Or was it about the accident at Nexus Innovations' construction site?
