Mommy,We Got a Husband -
Chapter 367 Middle-aged Man, Balding
Alaric's voice on the phone was dripping with regret, making Stellan feel all kinds of bummed out.
"Hey, just chill. Take some time off and don't stress about this case anymore," Stellan kept saying. "It's been years, man. I've made my peace with it. Don't get too down, alright?" Alaric let out a bitter laugh, "Why does it sound like you're the one comforting me? I'm good, it's just that we can't get a retrial now, and who knows how long it'll be delayed." "I'm cool with it too. I've waited this long; what's a bit more?" Stellan replied.
"As long as you're not too bummed," Alaric added. "Oh, by the way, Josep came by to treat me and mentioned something. His nephew's looking for a job at Nexus Innovations. Can you hook him up?" "Josep's nephew?" Stellan asked.
"Yeah, Josep's my lifesaver. He rarely asks for favors, so I can't say no," Alaric explained.
"Yeah, we owe him big time. If he needs this, we gotta help. Don't worry, when his nephew shows up, we'll sort him out with a good job," Stellan assured. Alaric nodded. "Cool."
Stellan said, "Alright, after today's treatment, just chill at home and don't overthink. Maybe this rejection is a sign you need to focus on your health, got it?" "Got it," Alaric replied with a helpless smile, feeling like Stellan was talking to a kid.
After hanging up, Stellan let out a big sigh of relief. 'Thank God, Alaric doesn't suspect a thing.'
Just then, her phone buzzed with a text. It was anonymous, just one line: [Not bad, your family can be safe for now.] That message sent a shiver down Stellan's spine, like someone was lurking in the shadows, watching her every move. Who the hell sent this? How do they know so much about the Knight family? Could it be Ambrose?
No way. Ambrose was always in-your-face. If he wanted to threaten her, he'd do it directly, not like this. So who was it? Was it the mastermind behind the Storm family's troubles? Had these people been in Arizona all this time? Creepy.
Stellan opened the two photos she had taken. The one with Alaric covered in blood was too much, so she quickly closed it.
A knock on the door snapped her back to reality. Cormac walked in.
"All sorted?" Cormac asked.
Stellan nodded.
"As long as he doesn't suspect anything," Cormac said, "Let's drop this for now, like Officer Neil suggested, to make the other side drop their guard." "Yeah." Stellan nodded, then told Cormac, "Don't worry about this. Just make sure Rowena doesn't find out."
"I know," Cormac nodded. "Don't stress too much. The cops are on it now, and those guys won't be causing trouble for long."
"Right." Stellan nodded with a determined smile.
In the next few days, Stellan played it cool, and Alaric didn't seem to catch on to anything. No more weird packages or creepy messages showed up either. Life went back to normal, like all that scary stuff had never happened.
One morning, while they were having breakfast, Alaric's phone buzzed. It was Josep calling.
Alaric picked up. "Hey, Josep."
"Sorry to bother you so early," Josep said.
"Josep, if you keep apologizing, I'm gonna feel bad," Alaric chuckled. "Is your nephew coming in today?"
"Yeah, he just called me. He's on the plane and should land in about seven or eight hours," Josep replied. "I've got a medical seminar this afternoon and can't make it." "No worries, Galatea and I will pick him up. What's his name?" Alaric asked.
"Tommy Reaves," Josep said.
"Tommy, got it. You focus on your seminar; we'll handle it," Alaric assured him.
"Mr. Knight, I really appreciate it," Josep said, sounding genuinely grateful. "I haven't seen him in years, and honestly, I barely remember what he looks like."
"I get it," Alaric said. "You're a big deal at the Institute of Medical Pioneers. If he didn't need help, he wouldn't have asked. We'll take good care of him." "Thanks, I'll owe you and Galatea one," Josep replied.
After hanging up, Alaric couldn't help but say, "Josep is way too polite. He's so humble and classy, really someone to look up to."
Stellan nodded. "Yeah, he's the nicest and best doctor I've ever met. When's Tommy getting here?"
"In about seven or eight hours," Alaric answered.
Stellan checked the time. "That'll be right when I get off work. Pick me up, and we'll head to the airport together." "Sounds good," Alaric agreed.
"Daddy, Mommy, who's coming? A relative of ours?" Harry asked, all excited.
"Nope, it's Grandpa Josep's relative, coming to work at Nexus Innovations," Alaric explained.
"A guy?" Elisa jumped in, "Is he cute?"
Josep only mentioned a nephew he hadn't seen in years. Alaric and the others had no clue about Tommy's age, height, or looks. "Beats me. All I know is he's Josep's nephew," Alaric shrugged.
"Then I wanna go too," Elisa said eagerly. "I'll be out of school by then. I wanna see if Grandpa Josep's nephew is a hottie." "Grandpa Josep's nephew is probably in his forties, right? I mean, Grandpa Josep is almost sixty," Caspian chimed in.
"A guy in his forties? Like those balding dudes?" Elisa's excitement vanished.
"Why do men in their forties have to be bald?" Alaric asked, a bit exasperated.
"That's what they show on TV," Elisa shot back. "Middle-aged, ugly, and bald."
Alaric just sighed.
"Daddy, if you go bald when you're that age, you gotta wear a wig. Otherwise, you'll look super ugly," Elisa declared.
"Why a wig? Hair transplants are a thing," Caspian suggested.
"At that age, hair transplants don't always work, right? Wigs seem more reliable," Harry said, all serious.
Listening to the kids debate Alaric's potential baldness, Stellan couldn't help but laugh, while Alaric's face turned dark as a storm cloud.
