Mommy,We Got a Husband -
Chapter 362 Cormac Is Not as Shameless as You
So, about what went down with the Storm family seven years back, Ambrose had been trying to crack that mystery for ages.
As what he told Alaric, the Vale family and the Storm family were worlds apart, no beef between them. What kind of grudge could there be?
Now, Ambrose was lurking outside Stuart's room, so jittery he barely dared to breathe, scared he'd get caught.
After a bit, he heard Stuart on the phone. With the door in the way and Stuart chilling on a sofa not too close, Ambrose could only catch bits and pieces, all muffled and unclear. From the few words he caught, it sounded like, "Alaric's pushing for a retrial, what do we do now?"
Stuart was definitely asking the person on the other end for advice.
Judging by the tone, it seemed like the person on the other end was the boss. Was Stuart taking orders from him?
If the Vale family and the Storm family had no old grudges and no reason to mess with each other, then there was only one explanation: Stuart was working for someone else. But seriously, would someone as cutthroat as Stuart really take orders from someone else?
If there was someone pulling Stuart's strings, Ambrose couldn't just throw the evidence out there. Even if he took Stuart down, the puppet master would strike back.
Until he knew who was behind Stuart, he had to play it cool. Since Stuart was trying to get Alaric to drop the retrial, let him sweat it out.
With all the red tape and it being an old major case, it wouldn't get approved quickly anyway.
"I figure it'll be next week," Neil was keeping tabs on it too, worried Alaric might freak out, so he called him. "Chill out."
"I'm not stressing," Alaric said, "Getting results next week is pretty quick. Thanks, Neil."
"Cut the formalities, or I'll really get pissed," Neil snapped, tired of Alaric's politeness. Then he added, "I heard Mrs. Knight's got her sixtieth birthday bash coming up? Why didn't you tell me about that?"
Neil clearly didn't know the Knight family's current drama. Hearing this, Alaric forced a smile and said, "You're swamped with work, no need to bother you with this."
"A sixtieth birthday is a big deal." Neil laughed, "I'll see if I can make it. If I'm slammed, then forget it. But if I can carve out some time, I'll be there. Gotta run to a meeting now. Catch you later."
Before Alaric could respond, Neil had already hung up. Alaric sighed, hoping Neil would be too busy to come.
In the days that followed, Stellan was still crazy busy, while Alaric was chilling at home, waiting for the approval results, living the good life. Probably the most relaxed he'd ever been.
One day, Stellan was buried in work at the office. When her phone rang, she didn't want to answer, but seeing it was Alaric, she quickly dropped everything and picked up. "Alaric."
Alaric said, "It's so late, why are you still grinding away? Come on down, I'm waiting for you outside."
Hearing this, Stellan quickly walked to the floor-to-ceiling window and looked down, immediately spotting Alaric's car. She scolded him playfully, "Can't you just chill? I told you to rest at home, but you just can't sit still."
Alaric replied with a grin, "Staying home all day would drive me nuts. Come on down already."
"Alright, I'm coming." Stellan quickly tidied up, deciding to leave the unfinished work for tomorrow.
After tidying up, Stellan hurried out of the office. Just then, Silas came in with a package and respectfully said, "Ms. Storm, you have a package."
"Just leave it on my desk," Stellan said hurriedly and then quickly walked out. Silas had no choice but to place the package on her desk.
Stellan ran downstairs, hopped into the passenger seat, and looked at Alaric, asking, "During this time of recuperation, you've become a stay-at-home dad, a chef, a masseur, and now you're my chauffeur?" "Being your driver is an honor," Alaric said as he started the car, "Let's go pick up the kids."
Stellan said, "Alaric, you seem to be in a good mood."
"Not bad." Alaric couldn't help but share with Stellan. "Neil called and said the approval results should be out next week. Once the application is approved, there will be a special investigation, which will definitely be more efficient than us investigating ourselves."
Hearing this, Stellan didn't know how to feel. She certainly wanted to clear the Storm family's name, but she was also a bit afraid of the result. Her feelings were very complicated.
Alaric, seeing her expression, comforted her, "Don't stress too much, just take it easy."
"Okay." Stellan looked at Alaric admiringly and said, "As long as you're here, I'm not scared. My only worry is your health. Once you're fully recovered, I won't be afraid of anything." "Almost there," Alaric said, "It's been over a month now, just five more months to go."
"Hang in there. During these five months, just focus on getting better and don't do anything else." Stellan pretended to remind him sternly.
"Don't worry, once the retrial approval is passed, there will be pros to handle the investigation, so I won't be needed," Alaric said.
"That's good." Stellan suggested, "How about we invite Cormac and Rowena over for dinner tonight?"
Alaric agreed, "Sure, you contact them."
Stellan nodded. "Okay."
After saying that, Stellan called Cormac and Rowena, and both of them agreed readily. After the calls, Stellan couldn't help but complain.
"What is Cormac waiting for? Aurora has gone to boarding school, so it's just the two of them. They should just reconcile, but he still won't make a move. Rowena has been looking for a house recently, saying she wants to settle in Arizona and start a business. It's been so many days, and she keeps saying she hasn't found a suitable one. Isn't she just waiting for Cormac to say something, hoping they can live together? Rowena has been so proactive, but Cormac just acts dumb. It's really frustrating!"
Alaric also gave a disdainful smile and said, "I didn't expect Cormac to be so shy."
Stellan remarked, "Unlike you, so shameless."
Hearing Stellan's complaint, Alaric shamelessly said, "It took three marriage proposals to succeed. If I weren't shameless, how could I have married you?"
