Mommy,We Got a Husband -
Chapter 356 A Joyful Dinner
"Yo, Alaric, chill out, everything went smooth this time," Neil said over the phone. Alaric replied, "Cool, thanks, man."
"Hey, it's my job to dig up the truth," Neil said. "We nailed the first step, so let's kick back a bit. Ambrose is probably sweating bullets right now, so let's leave him hanging for a few days." "Got it," Alaric said and hung up.
Today was also the day Cormac and Rowena were bringing the four kids back.
Caspian, Harry, and Elisa had been gone for so long that Alaric really missed them. He spent the whole afternoon in the kitchen, whipping up some tasty grub for them.
Stellan knew the kids were coming back today and was super hyped. She left Nexus Innovations early to get home.
Stellan said, "It's been ages, and Harry and Elisa have never been away from me this long. I really miss them."
Alaric teased, "You only miss Harry and Elisa? What about Caspian?"
Stellan playfully punched him. "You know that's not what I meant. You are looking for trouble now?"
Alaric laughed. Once dinner was ready, Cormac and Rowena rolled in with the four kids.
"Daddy, Mommy!" Elisa shouted as she ran excitedly towards Alaric and Stellan. "I miss you so much!" Alaric scooped Elisa up and kissed her cheek. "Miss you too, kiddo."
Seeing their sun-kissed faces, Stellan couldn't help but laugh. "You all got so tanned from your trip."
"Yeah, I'm basically a piece of charcoal now," Harry joked. "Didn't expect so much sun. If I knew it would mess up my looks, I would've thought twice about going." "You had the most fun, and you're still whining?" Caspian shot back.
Harry snapped, "So what if I had fun? Isn't that the point? Unlike you, finding everything boring."
Caspian said, "You're always bouncing around like a monkey!"
Harry asked, "Caspian, you wanna go?"
Caspian teased, "Think you can take me? Don't start something you can't finish."
"Daddy, Mommy," Harry whined, "can you do something about Caspian? He's being a jerk!"
Caspian said, "You started it!"
"Alright, you two always start bickering the second you're together. I'm so over it," Stellan said. "No more arguing. Go wash up and eat."
After dealing with the kids, Stellan turned to Cormac, Rowena, and Aurora. "I've got dinner ready. Eat before you head out."
"Sure thing." Since it was already set, Cormac didn't argue.
Everyone grabbed their seats. Rowena made sure to sit next to Cormac, and he didn't mind. Stellan shot Alaric a look, and he grinned back. "Did you have fun on the trip?" Alaric asked.
"Totally," Elisa said. "Aurora's a total brainiac. Everywhere we went, she knew all the history and stuff, like she'd been there before."
Aurora said, "Nah, I've never been abroad. I just love world geography, so I read about it in books."
"Aurora's a total rockstar. Just from reading books, she can remember all the cultural and historical stuff about different places," Stellan said, genuinely impressed.
Aurora shrugged modestly. "I don't know everything. I just happened to know about the places we visited this time. There's still a ton I don't know, and I'm always learning."
Aurora was not only smart and studious but also super humble. Alaric and Stellan both really liked her.
"Aurora, did Cormac tell you? In six months, I'm starting a private hospital. I'm waiting for you to graduate and come work there," Stellan said eagerly.
"Seriously? That sounds awesome!" Aurora was just as excited. "I love being a doctor. When I put on that white coat, I want to save tons of patients."
Stellan beamed. "Great, I'll be waiting for you to grow up."
Aurora nodded enthusiastically. "Okay!"
The dinner vibe was super chill, with lots of laughs and chatter. After dinner, the three kids went off to play with Aurora. Stellan and Rowena, who hadn't seen each other in a while, caught up happily, with Rowena bringing a bunch of gifts for Stellan from abroad.
Alaric and Cormac headed into the study. Alaric handed Cormac a cigarette, which he took.
"You look like you're bouncing back well," Cormac said, noticing Alaric's good complexion.
Alaric replied, "Yeah, it's been good."
Cormac asked, "I heard you made a new buddy?"
"When did you become so in-the-know?" Alaric was surprised.
"Of course," Cormac said directly. "Be straight with me, what's your angle with Neil? Is it about the Galatea case?"
Alaric admitted, "Yep. Neil's a straight shooter. We clicked right away and already knocked out the first step of our plan."
Cormac asked, "Impressive. Does Galatea know?"
Alaric shook his head. "No way. If she knew, how could I investigate?"
Cormac's expression turned serious. "Honestly, I don't want you digging into this either, but I know you won't listen. Maybe the moment you joined the military, you were destined for a life of chaos."
Alaric teased, "Why the sudden deep thoughts?"
"Isn't it true?" Cormac retorted. "You barely have any chill days before you dive into something else. When you decided to build the entertainment center, I was really worried you'd attract the attention of that organization's leftovers." "After so long without any drama, I finally felt at ease. But now you're diving into another case."
Alaric said, "I'm not sticking my nose into everything. This is about my wife, and I can't just ignore it. Once this is over, I'll focus on running the company and won't get involved in anything else."
"I hope you can stick to that," Cormac said, then asked, "It's been so many days, and you still haven't contacted your mom? Are you really cutting ties?"
Alaric nodded. "I told you, this time I'm serious."
"Next month is her 60th birthday. Are you sure you won't go?" Cormac asked.
Marigold's 60th birthday? That was right. Next month it was.
