Mommy,We Got a Husband
Chapter 349 Alaric and Neil

After Alaric finished the call, he leaned back in his chair, deep in thought. After a while, he thought of someone.

He then typed "Neil" into the computer, and Neil's profile quickly popped up. Although Neil looked somewhat weathered, he was actually only a few years older than Alaric. Neil's resume was impressive; he had many achievements and honors. The major operations he had participated in were all extremely dangerous.

If Alaric hadn't retired, in a way, he and Neil would be the same kind of person.

Alaric scrolled down Neil's profile and suddenly saw a photo. Alaric couldn't help but smile, then he picked up his phone again.

Neil arrived just twenty minutes after Alaric made the call. Alaric was surprised by how quickly he came. "Officer Neil, you're fast."

The last time Neil came, Alaric had just woken up and was weak, so they didn't talk much. This time, Alaric called to say he had a lead, prompting Neil to arrive swiftly. Neil smiled. "Mr. Knight, you said there were more clues, so I rushed over."

After meeting, they politely shook hands and then sat down on the sofa in the living room.

"Last time you came, I was unwell and couldn't talk much. I apologize for that," Alaric said politely.

Neil said, "It was my bad timing last time. But now, Mr. Knight, you look much better. It seems like you're recovering well."

Alaric replied, "Not too bad."

"So, Mr. Knight, what clues do you have?" Neil said as he took out a notebook and pen to jot down notes.

Alaric stated, "It's not really a clue. I can't provide any evidence for what I'm about to say, but I swear that every word is true.

"Last time, Stellan already told you that I had severe injuries with aftereffects. During that time, Stellan was treating me, and the medication made me very uncomfortable.

"Ambrose took advantage of this, first inciting Todd to bully Stellan, then anonymously messaging me to rescue her. Given my condition, I had to take strong medication to save her.

Alaric continued, "After taking it, any emotional fluctuation would trigger my condition. I definitely wouldn't go easy on Todd for bullying Stellan, which is exactly what Ambrose wanted-mutual destruction.

"After rescuing Stellan, Ambrose returned to the cabin and killed Todd, framing me. Of course, Ambrose had premeditated this, and he did it without giving anything away. The message he sent me was also set to self-destruct after being read," Alaric explained.

Neil took notes seriously, and after finishing, he frowned slightly. Through his investigation, he also found that Ambrose was very meticulous.

Neil remarked, "So, you don't have any evidence."

Alaric nodded. "Yes. How about you, Officer Neil? Any progress in the investigation these days?"

Neil was frustrated. "No progress at all. The higher-ups are pressuring us to close the case quickly. Without evidence, it seems we'll have to close it based on the presumption of innocence."

If that were the result, Neil would feel utterly disgusted.

Alaric had anticipated this outcome. Ambrose didn't get arrested, which was exactly what Alaric wanted. Ambrose still had his value.

At least Ambrose was the most important insider in the Storm Family case. Alaric also believed Ambrose when he said he had crucial evidence.

Alaric feigned regret and smiled, saying, "Investigating cases is indeed frustrating. Let's talk about something else. How many years have you been in the force?"

Neil replied, "Over ten years since I graduated from the police academy."

Alaric remarked, "Then you're quite a veteran."

"Sort of." Neil didn't expect Alaric to chat with him. After all, Alaric was a suspect in this case, and Neil wanted to take this opportunity to learn more about him. "What about you, Mr. Knight? Where did you serve in the military?" Alaric was waiting for him asking this question. He didn't answer directly but instead asked, "Officer Neil, do you know Thomas?"

"Mr. Emberlyn?" Neil's eyes lit up with admiration at the name. "He's the commander of the 37th Army Group. Of course, I know him.

"When I first joined, I had the honor of participating in a joint exercise, and Mr. Emberlyn was the chief commander. That exercise left a deep impression on me and deepened my admiration for Mr. Emberlyn's leadership. He's a hero in both the military and police circles."

Alaric said with a smile, "That's a coincidence. Mr. Emberlyn is my mentor. I joined the military with him at eight and stayed by his side for over a decade."

Upon hearing this, Neil was shocked and then suddenly thought of something. "You've been under Mr. Emberlyn's guidance for over a decade. Mr. Knight, are you the renowned special forces expert, the most valued successor of Mr. Emberlyn?"

"You flatter me," Alaric replied.

Neil was kind of surprised. "So, you really are that Mr. Knight. There are many stories about you in our police department. That notorious organization was taken down by you, right? You said you retired due to severe injuries; was it because of that incident?"

Alaric nodded. "Yes."

Neil was so excited that he slapped his thigh. He was a passionate person and felt thrilled to find a kindred spirit.

Neil slapped his forehead and said, "I've been so focused on the case that I didn't realize. It's such a pity you retired due to injuries. Otherwise, you would have been Mr. Emberlyn's successor.

"But now, Mr. Knight, you're doing well in the business world, married, and have three lovely children. You're successful in life."

"It's a blessing in disguise. If I hadn't retired due to injuries, I wouldn't have met Stellan. So, I'm very content with my life now," Alaric said.

"Yes, but we still think it's a pity." Neil was still excited and quickly asked, "How is Mr. Emberlyn now? I haven't seen him in years."

"Actually, since I retired, I haven't seen him much either. We just call each other during holidays," Alaric said, "If you're free this Christmas, we can visit him together."
