Mommy,We Got a Husband
Chapter 316 Who Says There's No Other Suitable Candidate?

Despite Ambrose's efforts to avoid vital organs, the self-inflicted wound still inflicted severe injury. He was admitted to the hospital for surgery, and when the anesthesia wore off, Ambrose was in so much pain that his whole body trembled. After two days, the pain in Ambrose's wound finally subsided a bit. Throughout his hospital stay, only Denny was by his side. Stuart's mind was entirely occupied with the deceased Todd, and he didn't care at all about Ambrose's well-being. "How are things now?" Ambrose asked Denny weakly, half-lying on the hospital bed.

"Mr. Vale is now solely focused on seeking revenge against Alaric. He began with a comprehensive sweep of the Knight Family's estate, and afterward, he sent out people to track down Alaric's trail across all corners. It seems Mr. Vale won't rest until Alaric is dead," Denny said, unable to hide his schadenfreude.

"Todd was his treasure. Now that Todd is dead, Stuart will stop at nothing to avenge him, even if it costs him his life," Ambrose said.

Ambrose had mixed feelings about this. On one hand, he was glad that Alaric and Stuart were now mortal enemies. No matter who died, Ambrose would be happy. But on the other hand, he was upset that, as Stuart's living illegitimate child, he would never compare to the dead Todd in Stuart's heart.

"What about Alaric? Is he still alive?" Ambrose had thought Alaric wouldn't survive that night, but to his surprise, he hadn't heard any news of Alaric's death after several days.

"No. I heard Alaric is now at Serenity Heights Medical Center and is still in a coma," Denny said. "It was supposed to be a secret, but because of Alaric, the hospital mobilized all its experts, including Josep, who flew in from Country M. With so many people involved, it couldn't stay a secret."

"If so, make sure this news reaches Mr. Vale's ears," Ambrose said slowly. "Now that Alaric is in a coma, we must make sure he's out for good. We'll be in for a world of trouble when he wakes up."

"I understand, Mr. Vale," Denny quickly agreed.

In the ward, Stellan was still by the bedside, taking care of Alaric in every way, constantly wiping his face. Even though Alaric was asleep, she wanted him to be as comfortable as possible.

"Stellan, have something to eat," Rowena said, having her assistant bring some food. "You haven't eaten much these days. If you collapse, how will you take care of Mr. Knight?"

Stellan understood this better than anyone, but she just had no appetite.

"Just leave it there, Rowena. I'll eat when I feel like it," Stellan said, then added, "You don't have to stay here with me. Go back."

"I know I can't help much, but I've put my work on hold. There's nothing for me to do at home, so let me stay here with you. In case you need anything, you can call me anytime," Rowena replied. "Thank you, Rowena."

"Don't mention it. I really feel responsible for what happened. Let me do something for you and Mr. Knight," Rowena added.

Rowena truly blamed herself. She should have made sure Stellan safely drove away before going back to her room that day, but she was too caught up in her own emotions.

Sensing Rowena's sincerity, Stellan didn't say anything more. Just then, Cormac walked in, surprised to see Rowena still there.

It was still awkward for Cormac and Rowena to meet. Rowena, afraid Cormac would find an excuse to leave, quickly said, "Stellan, I'll go apply for a rest room and be back soon." "Okay."

As Rowena walked past Cormac, she glanced at him, but Cormac didn't look at her. Rowena had to look away and leave the room.

After Rowena left, Cormac walked to the bedside and asked, "How is he?"

"All other vitals are normal, but he's still in a coma," Stellan said worriedly. If Alaric fell into a coma like last time, it could be three years or even longer.

"Believe in him," Cormac encouraged. "He will wake up. He just needs more rest."

Stellan nodded firmly. "I believe it too. No matter how long he sleeps, I'll stay by his side and take good care of him."

Cormac remained silent. Anything he said now would be meaningless. He understood Stellan's feelings, just as he had felt when he stayed by Ravenna's bedside, feeling powerless.

After a while, Cormac said, "Alaric's coma can't be kept a secret anymore. Many people at Nexus Innovations know about it. Even if he wakes up soon, he'll need time to recover and can't immediately return to work."

He went on, "So, there are many opinions within Nexus Innovations. It was acceptable for me to temporarily take over for a month, but now, it's becoming untenable. I'm an outsider anyway, and the staff won't accept me continuing to manage the company. The consensus seems to be that Marigold should return to run the company."

If Marigold took over, she wouldn't let Cormac stay, and the entire Knight Family would be under her control.

"She wants to temporarily take over Nexus Innovations?" Stellan said firmly, "She can forget about it!"

"However, given the current situation, she's the only suitable candidate. If she returns, there will be significant changes," Cormac said.

Alaric had mentioned this issue before. He didn't want Marigold to take over because their management philosophies were very different. If Marigold took over, Alaric would have to spend a lot of time reforming things when he returned. Moreover, Stellan hated Marigold now. How could she give Marigold the chance to take over?

"Who says there's no other suitable candidate?" Stellan uttered.

Upon hearing this, Cormac was surprised. "Do you mean...?"

Before Cormac could finish, a voice full of anger came from the door.

"Mr. Knight is really elusive. It took me a lot of effort to find him!"

Hearing this, Stellan and Cormac looked towards the door and saw Stuart walking in.

Stellan and Cormac didn't know Stuart, but they could guess who he was. Stellan asked directly, "Are you Stuart?"

"Yes," Stuart replied, his eyes filled with undisguised hatred as he looked at Stellan. "And you are Stellan?"

"Yes."

After Stuart confirmed she was Stellan, his eyes turned from hatred to murderous intent. Stellan was the root of all evil.

In Stuart's mind, if it weren't for Stellan, Todd wouldn't have been obsessed with kidnapping her; if Todd hadn't kidnapped Stellan, he wouldn't have died!
