Mommy,We Got a Husband -
Chapter 264 Making Close Friends
Since Rowena's refusal to shoot last time, Richard had been restless, especially as the operations department at Nexus Innovations was infuriated, threatening to inform Alaric. Richard braced for the worst, ready to plead if Alaric replaced the brand ambassador in a fit of anger. Fortunately, the outcome was not as bad as he anticipated.
"It's said that Alaric is ruthless, and the operations department kept creating a tense atmosphere, saying we had angered our sponsor this time." Richard let out a huge sigh of relief. After receiving the response, he immediately went to Rowena's hotel room. "Turns out nothing happened? I've been worried sick these past two days."
Rowena was sitting on the balcony in a wicker chair, silently gazing out the window.
Seeing her like this, Richard approached, squatted down in front of her, took her hand, and coaxed, "Rowena, are you still mad? Don't be angry. It was my fault last time; I was overthinking. But I had no choice; after all, he is your ex-boyfriend, and his identity is sensitive. As your current boyfriend, I have to consider these things. It's all to protect you. From now on, I'll discuss everything with you first, okay?"
Rowena just sighed softly and slowly withdrew her hand from his.
Richard furrowed his brow slightly but continued to coax her, "I really know I was wrong. These past two days, you've been in a bad mood and haven't eaten much. How about I take you out for dinner tonight?"
"No, I don't have much of an appetite." Rowena got up from the wicker chair and slowly walked towards the bedroom. "You go with the agent and the others; I just want to rest."
"Alright, you rest at the hotel. I'll have the waiter bring you dinner tonight. Make sure you eat," Richard said.
Rowena responded faintly, then went into the bedroom and closed the door.
Lying on the bed and staring at the ceiling, she actually had no intention of sleeping.
Arizona was a place of heartbreak for her. One reason she had been developing her career abroad all these years was that she didn't dare to come back.
This time, Alaric's casino was selecting a brand ambassador, and Rowena was very resistant to it. However, her team was actively pursuing the opportunity; she didn't think it was right for her to raise any objections.
When she received the notification that she was chosen, Rowena felt very uneasy. She had already prepared herself for a possible reunion with Cormac.
However, Rowena assumed that Cormac had already married a woman of equal social standing and might even have children. After all, they had been separated for so many years. She thought they would calmly greet each other with a "long time no see" if they met again.
Who knew it would turn out like this?
Her phone suddenly rang, interrupting her thoughts. Seeing it was an unfamiliar number, Rowena hesitated to answer, but the phone kept ringing, so she finally picked it up. "Hello, who is this?"
"Hello, is this Miss Blaire?" Stellan said politely on the other end of the line. "I got your contact information from the operations department. I hope I'm not disturbing you?"
These days, Stellan had been in the lab developing a special drug. Alaric might have been busy acquiring a jewelry company recently, so she figured he wouldn't have time for treatment. This made her even more anxious, but the more anxious she got, the less successful she was.
Today, she thought she would succeed, but she failed again, which made Stellan very frustrated. So, she played Rowena's songs to calm herself down.
She had a good impression of Rowena, so she decided to call her.
"Oh, it's Mrs. Knight? Of course, you're not disturbing me." Rowena quickly sat up and asked, "Is there something you need, Mrs. Knight?"
"Nothing major, just feeling a bit tired from the experiments and wanting to relax." Stellan asked directly, "Are you busy lately, Miss Rowena? If not, would you like to go shopping with me?"
"Sure." Rowena had been away from Arizona for so many years that it felt unfamiliar to her. She didn't know anyone here and stayed in the hotel when she wasn't working. Being alone made her overthink, so she was eager to have someone to go shopping with.
"My job here in Arizona is to cooperate with the casino's promotion. The filming of the promotional video has been postponed to next week, so I'm not busy this week," Rowena said.
"That's great. How about now?" Stellan asked enthusiastically. "Which hotel are you staying at? I'll come to pick you up."
"I'm at the Lulan Hotel," Rowena replied.
"Alright, see you soon," Stellan said.
Stellan felt an instant connection with Rowena, and Rowena felt the same way about Stellan.
Soon, Stellan drove over to pick up Rowena. Rowena opened the car door and sat in the passenger seat.
"Nice to see you again," Stellan said proactively.
"I'm also very happy to see you again, Mrs. Knight," Rowena greeted.
"You don't have to keep calling me Mrs. Knight. Just call me by my name, Stellan," Stellan voiced.
"Alright, I'll call you Stellan, and you can call me Rowena," Rowena said.
"Deal!" Stellan checked the time and said, "I'll take you to the mall for some shopping first, and then we'll find a place to eat." "Sounds good," Rowena agreed readily.
"Oh, I need to call Alaric." In her rush, she had forgotten to inform Alaric. After saying that, Stellan dialed Alaric's number. "Hello, honey." Alaric always answered Stellan's calls immediately.
"Got something to tell you: No need to pick me up this afternoon, I'm hanging out with Rowena. I'll come home after dinner. Go home and spend time with the kids after work." 'Rowena? They have only met once, and they already get so close?' Alaric wondered.
"Got it, honey. Have fun and stay safe," he replied.
Stellan had been missing a close female friend. If she could become best friends with Rowena, he would be happy for her.
"You and your husband have such a great relationship," Rowena couldn't help but say after Stellan finished the call.
Just as Rowena finished speaking, her phone rang, showing Richard's name on the screen.
"You're teasing me; isn't your boyfriend calling?"
Although Stellan didn't think highly of Richard and Rowena's relationship, she didn't want to meddle as an outsider.
Stellan shifted her focus back to driving while Rowena answered the call.
"Hello, Rowena. The hotel staff said you left the hotel?" Richard was genuinely uneasy upon hearing this news, fearing that Rowena might go to see Cormac again.
"Yes, Mrs. Knight invited me to go shopping and have dinner," Rowena answered.
"Mrs. Knight invited you?" Richard instantly perked up upon hearing that it was Stellan who invited Rowena. "That's great! I heard Alaric dotes on his wife. You must get along well with Mrs. Knight. Be careful with your words and actions, and make sure to keep her happy."
"Got it." Rowena didn't want to listen anymore and hung up the phone.
It was just a simple outing for shopping and dinner, but Richard always made it so transactional. It was really annoying!
