Mommy,We Got a Husband -
Chapter 228 Your Wife Officially
"Mrs. Knight's call..."
Stellan was mid-sentence when Alaric hung up.
"Not gonna answer?" Stellan asked.
"No need. Once we got the marriage certificate and the kids are out of school, we'll take them back."
Just as Stellan was about to speak, Alaric's phone rang again. It was Marigold. This time, he turned it off.
He thought that would bring peace, but then Stellan's phone rang. It was still Marigold.
Seeing the call, Stellan felt a annoyed. Ignoring Marigold would only make things worse.
Stellan sighed, "You should answer it."
Alaric reluctantly took Stellan's phone and answered.
"Hello, Mom."
Marigold yelled, "Alaric, do you still remember you have a mother?!" She was already furious from his rejecting her call and turning off his phone. Now that he answered Stellan's phone quickly, she was even more enraged. "They say a man forgets his mother once he gets a wife. Stellan isn't even married to you yet, and you already don't care about me? Do you want me dead?"
Marigold's voice was so loud that even without the speakerphone, Stellan could hear it clearly, which she had expected.
Alaric explained, "I was busy."
"Busy with what? Getting cozy with Stellan?" Marigold shouted. "If you still consider me your mother, come to the Knight manor, right now!"
Alaric was about to make an excuse, but Marigold had already hung up.
After the call, Alaric was in a bad mood. Stellan took back her phone and said, "Alaric, getting the marriage certificate can be delayed. You should go home. Mrs. Knight has a weak heart. If she gets too upset, even if we get married, we won't be happy."
Alaric sighed, "Cormac was right. My mom and Griffon are two peas in a pod. They're exactly the same."
Stellan said, "How can you talk about your mom like that? You should go back."
"Go with me," Alaric said.
"Aren't you afraid we'll end up fighting if you take me back now?"
"It's inevitable," Alaric said. "You two are destined to be family. You can't avoid it."
"Alright, then." Stellan agreed to go back to the Knight manor with Alaric but felt nervous.
"Don't be afraid. I'm here." Alaric reassured her.
"Okay." Stellan nodded and took a deep breath.
But she still couldn't completely relax. After a while, she realized they weren't heading toward the Knight manor and asked, "Where are we going?" "County Clerk's Office."
Stellan asked, puzzled, "Didn't we agree to postpone getting married and go see your mom first?"
Alaric shrugged. "I never agreed to that. If there's gonna be a storm, might as well make it a big one."
"Alaric, aren't you worried about upsetting your mom too much?"
Alaric just smiled and sped up toward the County Clerk's Office.
Thanks to Alaric's prior arrangements, the whole marriage process was smooth and quick. Stellan felt like it only took a few minutes.
Holding the marriage certificate, Stellan couldn't believe it. She wiped her eyes several times to make sure it was real.
"Stop staring at it." Alaric took the certificate from her. "You'll wear it out."
Stellan smiled, "It's my first time seeing it. Of course, I want to take more glances at it."
Looking at Alaric, she asked, "So, I'm officially your wife now?"
"Yep," Alaric said. "And I'm your husband. Take care of me, honey."
Stellan laughed.
Seeing her like this, Alaric teased, "You said getting married could wait, but now you look so happy."
"Stop it," Stellan said, still in disbelief. "It's a strange feeling. We've been together, but now I feel more secure."
Seeing her smile, Alaric couldn't help but feel delighted too. He was even happier because he had finally succeeded in marrying her.
"And this." Alaric handed her the birth certificates for their kids.
Stellan smiled. "The kids really have three different last names?"
"You thought I was joking?" Alaric said seriously. "Regardless of their last name, they're our kids."
"That's true." Stellan carefully put away the birth certificates.
The car stopped in the Knight manor's yard. As soon as it did, Stellan's heart started pounding. She was really nervous.
Alaric got out first, then took her hand and led her into the hall.
Marigold had expected Alaric to bring Stellan, but seeing them holding hands still made her furious.
"Mom." Alaric greeted first as they entered the hall.
"Marigold." Stellan followed, but Marigold was particularly displeased.
"Don't call me that. I haven't acknowledged you as my son's wife," Marigold snapped.
"Whether you acknowledge it or not, it's a legal fact." Alaric took out the marriage certificate. "I don't care if the certificate from seven years ago were real or not, but this one is definitely real. Stellan is now my legal wife, and as her husband, I have a duty to protect her." Seeing the marriage certificate, Marigold was so angry that she trembled. She pointed at Alaric and scolded, "Alaric, do you really think I'm dead? How dare you go behind my back and do this!"
