Mommy,We Got a Husband
Chapter 18 Father and Son Both Ailing

His face was a shade paler than usual, sweat beading on his brow and breaking free in a steady stream. His breathing was visibly labored, a clear sign of discomfort.

"Are you feeling unwell?" Galatea asked, alarmed. Instinctively, she moved closer to examine him, but at her approach, he growled fiercely, "Get out!"

Despite his condition, his command carried an intimidating force that sent a shudder through her.

"Listen, your body's clearly in distress. I'm a doctor; I can help you. Just tell me what's wrong," she insisted.

"I said get out!" His voice boomed, almost predatory.

Galatea was annoyed with the urge to lash out at his attitude.

'He asked for it, asking her to leave. Why bother with such a reckless man?' Yet, as she opened the door to leave, her steps faltered. No, her oath as a doctor wouldn't allow her to ignore a man in crisis unfolding before her eyes. She turned around and returned to find Alaric writhing in pain, curled up on the floor.

"If you don't want to die, then cooperate!" Galatea commanded, falling back on her medical authority, "Lie down flat."

Alaric, gripped by pain, complied mechanically. Once he lay still, Galatea quickly began to assess him.

The exact cause of his condition eluded her, but it resembled symptoms of an underlying chronic illness.

For nearly twenty minutes, she knelt by him, providing emergency care until his agony slowly subsided.

"I'm calling an ambulance now. You'll be better once we're at the hospital." Even as a doctor, she knew their resources were limited; a thorough examination at a hospital was necessary.

But as she reached for her phone, her wrist was seized by his firm grasp.

"No!"

He didn't want an ambulance?

"You need hospital care," she insisted.

"If I say no, then it's no!"

'This man is impossible,' she thought with irritation.

"Fine, it's your life," Galatea said as she stood up, straightening her clothes and hair. "I just played along with your scene and incidentally saved your life. If you have an ounce of gratitude, you'll let me get back to my job at Serenity Heights Medical Center."

Alaric remained silent.

Galatea could tell he hadn't fully recovered, and without the response she sought, she couldn't leave just yet.

An awkward silence hung in the air.

Elsewhere, Harry was at ease. Cormac had lifted him into the car, and Orion had chosen, perhaps deliberately, to sit in the passenger seat to avoid being next to him.

Harry smirked to himself. Orion's seating choice suited him just fine.

"Are you coming over tonight too?" Cormac asked Orion.

"At this hour, I've got nowhere else," Orion snapped back with annoyance.

Cormac stayed silent to avoid further arguments with his sister. Once they got home, Cormac quickly sorted things out, "Orion, sleep in the guest room upstairs. I'll bunk with Caspian on the first floor."

But Orion wasn't having it and turned to Harry with an accusatory gaze, "I heard it clear as day, there was a woman in his room. Did you have a hand in this?"

"Orion, give it a rest, will you? Caspian's just a six-year-old kid. He doesn't know about that stuff," Cormac immediately defended Harry, "It's late, head upstairs to bed!"

Orion shot Harry a venomous look before stomping upstairs. Harry, feeling helpless and scared, looked at Cormac and asked, "Did I do something wrong, Cormac? Why does Mom hate me so much?" "Nothing's wrong with you. It's your mom who's got a short fuse, it's not your fault." Cormac said and lifted him into a comforting embrace.

Despite Orion's meanness, Cormac appeared to be quite friendly.

"I like you, Cormac. Can I sleep with you tonight?" asked Harry.

"You bet!" Cormac beamed at the thought of Harry wanting to spend the night with him.

"Cormac, you're so rich, just like my dad. You're both loaded." The villa was decorated with such opulence.

Harry was astonished. How could all of Caspian's relatives be so wealthy?

"You've really changed after your amnesia," Cormac commented.

"Cormac, which me do you prefer, before or after the amnesia?"

"Definitely, you right now-you're more lively. The old you was a bit too standoffish."

"Cormac, since I lost my memory, there's a lot I can't recall, and I have questions. Could you help me out?" Harry pleaded. "Fire away."

"Is your sister truly my mom?" Harry questioned doubtfully, "I mean, something doesn't add up. And if she is, how could she despise me?" "I can't be entirely sure, but it seems to add up."

"How can you not be sure? They say a kid's mom's a sure bet, even if his dad isn't clear. How come you can't confirm if she is my mom?"

"It's a little more complicated than that."

"Spill it. I can handle complicated," Harry replied.

Resigned to the situation, Cormac spilled the beans, "Your dad was in the military. During one of his missions, he got seriously injured and ended up in a coma. At that time, I was at odds with my old man and stayed overseas. After I came back to the States, your dad had woken up, and by then you were already born. Everyone said that Orion had you through in vitro fertilization while your dad was unconscious. If that's what your grandma and Orion are saying, it must be true, right?"

So, it wasn't a traditional pregnancy? That raised the possibility of foul play.

"Have you ever had a DNA test done?" Harry inquired further.

"Man, you think too much," Cormac admitted, "I don't know if they did a DNA test. But look, your dad's health was frail. The issues with your health have always troubled him. If you weren't his biological son, he wouldn't have been so patient with you."

"My dad's health is that bad?" Harry's brow raised.

"Yeah, didn't I just tell you? He was out cold with major injuries for three years. Even after waking up, he has some severe lingering effects. They don't show up often, but when they do, it can be lethal if not treated immediately." Cormac explained.

"I hope my dad never has to face that," Harry said, visibly shaken by the news.
