Mommy,We Got a Husband -
Chapter 158 Make Sure You Protect Galatea at All Costs
When Cormac arrived at Lingyun Winery, Alaric was already there, sitting in his usual spot. "Are you breaking up again?" Cormac asked helplessly as he sat down.
"Shut up. Galatea and I are great. Even until the day you die, Galatea and I will not break up."
"Are you a jinx? Don't curse me for no reason." Cormac couldn't help but scold Alaric upon hearing this. "If you and Galatea are being so well, and you're not at the company, why did you ask me out? You are so strange." "Galatea is busy, and there's nothing urgent at the company for now." Alaric poured a glass of wine for Cormac and said, "Just chatting with you."
Cormac didn't believe a word of what Alaric was saying.
"Alright, let's chat." Cormac raised his glass, took a sip, and asked. "What do you want to talk about? I have time now, and I'll chat with you." "Found a new girlfriend already?"
After Alaric asked this, Cormac sprayed out the sip of wine he had just taken.
A few drops landed on Alaric, who disdainfully wiped his clothes with a tissue.
"Alaric, are you okay? After being in love, you've suddenly changed a lot. You are caring about these things now."
Cormac never expected Alaric to ask such a question. It was completely out of character for him.
"Answer me, yes or no?" Alaric continued to press.
"No. I am not popular among women like you. I've been single for all these years."Cormac said sourly.
Upon hearing this, Alaric swirled the wine in his glass a few times, then casually said, "Being single for so many years after a breakup, I can't see you being so devoted. By the way, what was the name of your previous girlfriend?" Talking about it, Cormac had a serious expression and asked, "Why are you talking about her?"
"I remembered her surname was Blaire."
"Rowena Blaire." Cormac replied.
"Yes, Rowena Blaire." Alaric jokingly asked, "After so many years of breakup, you still can't forget her?"
"Who said I can't forget her? I just haven't found the right one." Cormac finished his drink in a very concealed manner.
"Don't deceive yourself. We grew up together. I know you well."
To this, Cormac gave a bitter smile and said. "Thank you for knowing me. Bringing up my past heartaches is your specialty."
Alaric shook his head and explained, "I didn't mean that. It's just like friends casually discussing past experiences. If you can talk about it without feeling hurt, it means you've forgotten her. But since you mentioned I brought up your past heartaches, it's clear that you haven't forgotten her since you broke up. If that's the case, go to find Rowena. Do you know which country she went to?"
"I can't find her. The country is so big, I probably can't find her. Besides, after all these years, Rowena's child is probably grown up and could run."
"What if Rowena is still single?"
"Even if she's single like me, it's not possible. The Nash family hurt her deeply. She won't turn back." Cormac finished his drink in one go.
"When all that happened, I was in the military, and I really didn't know what was going on. I just knew you went abroad after the breakup, and things got really tense with Griffon." Thinking about the past, Cormac let out a cold laugh. These emotions had been put inside him, and since Alaric seemed interested today, he decided to speak up. "Griffon and I fell out because I never knew he could be so selfish and heartless!" Cormac continued. "He was always controlling and suspicious of others with malicious intent." After saying all this, Cormac took a deep breath, easing some of his emotions, trying to speak calmly.
"Rowena was a lively and lovely girl. I was attracted at the school reunion when she was on stage singing into the microphone. I pursued her for a long time before finally catching her."
"Rowena, coming from a humble background, always felt inferior to me when we were together. It took me a long time to change her mindset. Rowena said she wanted to attend the best music school and become a famous singer." "She excelled academically and won various singing competitions. She had no pressure to apply to any international music school. Rowena had a bright future, but Griffon discovered our relationship just before her entrance exams." "Griffon insisted that Rowena was only getting close to me to leverage the Nash family's entertainment company. He went behind my back to meet Rowena, and what he said to her at the time made her collapse. She wanted to break up with me, but I begged her to let me protect her, and she reluctantly agreed."
"I had a big argument with Griffon at home. He seemed to agree on the surface, so I let my guard down. Later, he deliberately kept me busy and went to see Rowena, saying all sorts of hurtful things to her. Griffon, as a director of a media- manipulating entertainment company, could easily incite online violence."
"Overnight, the news about the poor girl Rowena seducing the rich boy went viral on campus, followed by isolation and bullying from classmates. Rowena suffered severe depression, couldn't participate in her entrance exams, and almost took the path of suicide, but fortunately, she was saved."
"I feel terribly guilty for the harm done to Rowena. I wanted to make it up to her. Even considered eloping with her, but she lay on the hospital bed, crying and begging me to let her go. Dad Blaire and Mom Blaire also pleaded with me to spare Rowena. I had no choice."
At this point, Cormac's eyes glistened, but he quickly adjusted his emotions, chuckled self-deprecatingly, and said, "I thought I would bring happiness to Rowena, but in the end, I only brought her endless pain. This pain has left her with deep psychological scars, which can only be healed and erased by staying away from me. I had to let her go. Griffon is my father. I can't do anything to him, but I can choose not to forgive him. And to this day, he still doesn't think he's wrong, so I have nothing to say."
Griffon could be so heartless toward a seventeen-year-old girl that triggering online violence and fabricating a DNA test was easy for him.
"Here's something you won't like to hear. I think Mrs. Marigold is very much like Griffon in this aspect." Cormac's words interrupted Alaric's thoughts. Alaric looked at him, listening as Cormac continued. "The feudal ideas are deeply rooted in society and are hard to eradicate. I met Mrs. Marigold at the hospital last time. I casually mentioned that if you were to marry Galatea, Mrs. Marigold's view was that Galatea was climbing the social ladder by deliberately seducing you, much like Griffon's thoughts. So, make sure you protect Galatea at all costs, don't let her become another Rowena."
