Mommy,We Got a Husband -
Chapter 120 Mrs. Marigold was Very Angry with Alaric's Defence
Alaric knew Mrs. Marigold's temper. He knew that if he got sick and hospitalized, she'd undoubtedly blame Galatea. That was mainly why he lied to her.
He replied, "Mom, please don't get so worked up. As the saying goes, Rome wasn't built in a day. Even God can't cure my illness immediately."
"Even if Galatea can't cure it all at once, she shouldn't be making your condition worse."
Seeing him hospitalized now, Mrs. Marigold would naturally blame the doctor treating him. She was already angry, and Alaric defending her only infuriated her more.
"What about that Galatea? Have her come and see me right away! I want to ask if she can really treat illnesses or if she has ulterior motives!" she angrily said.
Hearing this, Alaric naturally intervened. He and Galatea were currently in a cold war, and they hadn't contacted each other for nearly a week.
He was afraid this would scare Galatea, and most importantly, he didn't want her to know he got hospitalized.
"Mom, just stop it. She's just a doctor; what could she possibly be planning?"
Mrs. Marigold speculated, "Who knows? You have a noble status, and any woman wants to be your wife. Right now, she's still your fiancée in reputation. Isn't that like a phoenix perching on a branch? If she has any ill intentions toward our family's fortune, she could use harm you while disguising as treating you. It's not impossible!"
Alaric found her assumptions appalling.
"Mom, you're overthinking. Galatea isn't that kind of person."
Hearing him constantly defend Galatea, Mrs. Marigold felt angry, even jealous and hostile.
She never had any emotional connection with Alaric's father, and later on, they even became enemies. Alaric's father died early afterward, and Alaric became her only emotional support.
The daughter-in-law she wanted had to be under her control, like Orion. Mrs. Marigold knew that Alaric didn't love Orion that much, and it was the latter who had been pursuing him. This prevented Mrs. Marigold from feeling like another woman was snatching her son away.
However, Galatea was different. For some reason, Mrs. Marigold felt uncomfortable as soon as she knew about this woman's existence.
She hadn't even met her, but she already hated her, thinking she was a despicable woman who'd do anything to snatch her son away.
Despite that, Mrs. Marigold still restrained herself in front of Alaric. If she continued to blame Galatea, she was afraid that it'd anger him. Most importantly, he was a patient, so she had to comply with him first.
"Alright, forget Galatea for now," she said anxiously. "Alaric, tell me the truth. How are you right now? Are you uncomfortable anywhere? Don't hide anything from me."
Alaric replied, "I swear to God, I'm really fine now. I can be discharged tomorrow."
"No, you've already gone through the gates of hell. How can you be discharged so quickly?" she strongly objected. "Don't worry about the company and just focus on recovering."
"But..."
She firmly said, "No 'buts'! Alaric, you're my son. If anything happens to you, I won't be able to go on. I'm not asking for anything else; just stay in the hospital until you fully recover. Do you understand?" Alaric was truly helpless. He knew that if he forcefully left, she'd stick to him like glue.
He reluctantly agreed, "Alright."
"Oh, right," Mrs. Marigold asked with concern, "Have you eaten? You need nourishment now, so I'll have the kitchen..."
"Mom, I've already eaten, and I don't want to eat more," Alaric said. "Since you know I got in the hospital, I've agreed to continue staying here. You don't have to stay here all the time. I hope you can spend more time with Caspian instead." He was the only one in the Knights who treated Caspian well. Apart from him, Caspian was hostile toward everyone in the family.
As Caspian disliked his grandmother, Mrs. Marigold also did. Moreover, she had a good excuse to avoid meeting him. There was no love between the two.
She recalled, "I've already seen Caspian. It's only been a few days, but he has changed a lot. He went from being quiet to baffling people with his constant yapping."
Thinking about it, she was still angry. That little brat was really unruly.
"I actually think it's a good thing he's livelier now. He used to be unwilling to talk, so you had no chance to communicate with him. Now that he talks more, it's time for you to deepen your bond," Alaric said. "You're still a patient right now, so just focus on yourself. Don't worry about the rest," Mrs. Marigold interrupted.
"Mom, it's already late. I want to rest, so you should also return and get some too." Alaric said directly.
"How could I?" she complained. "You're in such a serious condition, but you don't even have company. Why are you so stubborn? When you were a child, I didn't want you in the military, but you insisted. Afterward, an accident happened. You're still so young; if these aftereffects can't be cured, they'll torment you for the rest of your life."
She continued, "As for a daughter-in-law for me, Orion treats you well. If you hadn't fought, she would've come to take care of you already. How can you live in such a pathetic and gloomy state in the hospital?"
Alaric didn't want to hear a single word anymore and closed his eyes.
"Forget it. If you don't want to listen, then I won't bother you," she said in frustration.
She didn't know if he was truly sleeping or just pretending, so she had no choice but to accompany him silently.
But when she thought about Galatea, she got angrier. She was eager to meet her and see what kind of scheming woman could captivate Alaric like this.
When Alaric woke up the next morning, Mrs. Marigold was already gone. He was afraid she had gone to find Galatea, so he quickly called her. "Mom, where did you go?"
"Just arrived at the office," Mrs. Marigold said, "You can't handle work right now, so I'll take over."
Hearing that she was at the office, he felt relieved. However, he didn't know her true thoughts at that moment!
