Love Unbreakable by Bank Brook -
Chapter 94

When Kyle heard Lauren's request, his jaw practically dropped to the floor.
He pushed her away and protested, "I agreed to help you find out Mr. Dixon's schedule, but there's no way I'm going to do something like that for you." If Mr. Dixon finds out, I'm toast.
Raegan had taught him a lot when they were colleagues. He was patient with him and even gave him advice on how to work with Mr. Dixon. If it had not been for his guidance, he would not have been promoted nor would he have been able to work under Matteo.
However, Lauren's recent request crossed a line. There was no way he would compromise his principles, especially not for something that could harm Raegan.
Lauren's mood plummeted. Pissed off after being pushed by Kyle, she slapped him across the face, leaving a red handprint on his cheek.
«So what is it going to be? Do you want to go to jail? “He warned him.
Kyle's determination wavered. He was the breadwinner for his family and prison was not an option.
“Okay, I'll help you one last time,” he murmured softly.
Lauren laughed silently at Kyle's stupidity. Once he fell into his trap, he would hold on to it as long as it was useful to him.
Did this man think it was a one-time favor? What an idiot.
Lauren rubbed Kyle's chest in a seductive way and seduced him.
«Kyle, I'm still not satisfied. Let's continue, okay?
As she orgasmed, Lauren's face twisted in a macabre mix of delight, hatred, and pure malevolence.
Just wait, Raegan. That was what Lauren had in mind.
As soon as they arrived in Tenassie, Raegan went to a flower shop and picked up a large bouquet of flowers. Then, he headed straight to the cupcake shop.
The store owner recognized Raegan immediately. It wasn't every day someone as stunning as Raegan walked in.
The owner handed her the box of cupcakes with a smile.
«Here you go, miss. This cake was just baked this morning, and the other one is on us. The red bean one is your favorite, right? They are all yours, and I hope you enjoy them instead of crying.
Hearing the owner's words, Mitchel felt a little embarrassed. He looked for his card and said, “Please charge this.”
The shop owner said awkwardly, “I'm sorry, sir. "We only accept cash."
"Don't worry. "I'll take care of it." Raegan took out her wallet and paid the bill.
When the store owner gave Raegan the change, she couldn't help but comment, "Is this handsome man your boyfriend?" "You seem made for each other."
Raegan didn't answer and just nodded awkwardly.
Back in the car, Mitchel was cheerful and even confidently said, “See? "The owner of that store has good taste."
Raegan was speechless. In response, he just closed his eyes and said nothing.
Shortly after, they arrived at the cemetery.
Raegan placed the bouquet and cupcakes in front of her grandmother's headstone and knelt.
In the photo on the tombstone, his grandmother was beaming with happiness.
Then, like a silent storm, tears began to roll down Raegan's cheeks.
"Grandma, I promise you that I will live a good life like you wanted," he said between sobs.
Mitchel also knelt next to her and bowed three times toward the tombstone.
“Grandma, I give you my word that I will take good care of Raegan.”
Raegan found his words strange.
Actually, Mitchel was very nervous today. Yesterday he was so furious that he almost strangled her to death. But now he was here, acting sweet and worried in front of his grandmother's grave.
As they left the cemetery, Raegan asked Mitchel for a ride and said, "You can come back. "I'm staying here tonight."
Although her uncle had sold her grandmother's house, she had managed to rent it. But he hadn't returned for years. Therefore, he planned to spend the night here.
Mitchel asked him where he was going. After she told him the address, he drove her there and got out of the car with her.
When Raegan opened the door, they were greeted by a musty smell.
Mitchel wrinkled his nose and asked incredulously, "Are you staying here the night?"
Raegan shrugged.
"Yeah. I'll keep the doors and windows open for a while and everything will be fine.
Before she could enter, Mitchel grabbed her arm.
«You can't stay here. If you want to stay in the city, I'll book you a hotel room."
Stubborn as she was, Raegan shook herself from his grasp.
«I'm staying. Why don't you mind your own business?
This place was full of fond memories of his childhood. Mitchel wouldn't understand.
"This place is damp, dirty, and full of germs, and you're pregnant," he reminded her.
Raegan couldn't stay calm any longer and blurted out, "Mitchel, you really don't have to go to all that trouble."
Mitchel's enthusiasm deflated like a punctured balloon. He narrowed his eyes and asked, “What are you saying?”
"You don't have to pretend to care about the baby."
Pretend you care about the baby? Mitchell repeated. His expression turned stormy and anger flashed in his eyes.
"Isn't that true?" Raegan replied.
He had been so against the baby that he had even tried to get her aborted.
Even after she told him it was his, he didn't believe her. So he didn't see the point in pretending to care now.
Mitchel looked at her, his eyes burning with anger.
"Raegan, don't push me too hard."
He hadn't driven for hours just to argue with her.
Raegan couldn't understand why Mitchel felt like she was making things difficult for him.
Even when it came to her unborn child, she felt like she had no voice.
She was tired of living such a suffocating life.
«Mitchel, who is really pushing here? Why don't you go comfort your damsel in distress who fell down the stairs? It takes two to tango, you know. "I never asked you to stay."
"So you've been biting your tongue to seek justice for Henley, right?"
Mitchel scoffed.
«Think what you want. "I don't care," Raegan replied without offering any explanation.
Livid, the blue veins stood out on his temples and Mitchel looked at her with bloodshot eyes.
Just then, his phone buzzed. He looked at the screen and saw that it was Lauren calling again.
Very upset, he took the call in front of Raegan.
"What's wrong, Lauren?"
Lauren's voice, which was choked with sobs, came. She complained that she felt terrible and begged him to come see her.
While talking on the phone, Mitchel's eyes met Raegan's. His indifference hurt him more than he would like to admit.
He ended the call and, without saying a word, turned around and walked away.
As his car started, the phone he intended to give to Raegan slipped out of his pocket. In a fit of anger, Mitchel rolled down the window and threw the phone into the river.
Why would I give it to him? So she could use it to call another man?
When Mitchel left, Raegan felt a weight lift off her shoulders. He rolled up his sleeves and started cleaning the floor.
Then he took the quilt out to the balcony to ventilate the musty smell.
As soon as the house went on the market, Raegan rented it for three years and hoped to save money to buy it again.
So the interiors hadn't changed at all since she and her grandmother lived here.
Although the place had seen better days, it felt warm and familiar.
About an hour, Raegan cooked noodles for dinner. After eating, he lay down on the bed and stared at the ceiling for an eternity. He gave himself a mental kick for forgetting to buy a new phone.
Living without a phone was like living without an arm.
As he was beginning to fall asleep, the lights suddenly went out.
Raegan jumped. Thinking it was a general blackout, he fumbled for his flashlight.
When he found it, he looked out the window and saw lights flickering in the distance. From the looks of it, his house was the only one that had suffered a blackout.
Just then, he heard a rustling noise coming from outside.
Assuming it was his imagination, he held his breath and listened.
A second later, the noise grew louder and louder. It looked like someone was trying to pick the lock.
Regan broke out in a cold sweat and felt the hair on her arms stand up.
