A glance at the clock told Nicole that she had slept for four hours. A dull pain in his stomach reminded him that he hadn't taken his nighttime medicine.

When Nicole grabbed her bag, it accidentally fell to the floor, scattering several bottles of different colored medicines.

Nicole stared at the empty bag and the bottles on the floor, a feeling of daze overcoming her.

While other women's purses were filled with makeup, jewelry, and other prized items, hers was always filled with pill bottles.

She had had a partial gastrectomy and was on medication. This treatment was new, and the effects of clinical trials were uncertain. Many of his experimental group had not survived more than three months.

Miraculously, Nicole was the lucky one who had passed the critical five-year mark. However, this did not guarantee his recovery. For the rest of his life, he would have to continue taking these classified medications and endure their side effects.

The side effects were not mild. Among them, frequent panic attacks and vomiting. Furthermore, Nicole had lost her sense of taste.

Everything he ate seemed tasteless to him, but he had to pretend it was delicious to blend in with the others.

His physical discomfort was a harsh reminder that he should take his medication as soon as possible.

Nicole swallowed the pills without water.

The dry, hard pills scratched his throat and caused a sharp pain in his esophagus. Strangely enough, this pain relieved Nicole.

Devoid of flavor and battling various physiological side effects, Nicole felt like a walking corpse. However, the pain constantly reminded her that she was still alive, that she was a breathing human being.

It also served as motivation for him not to give up. His enemy was still out there and he couldn't afford to die without justice being done. He had to not only survive, but thrive, witness the fall of the man who had caused him so much suffering.

After a while, Nicole headed to the underground parking lot.

He got into his car, fastened his seat belt, and started to leave the parking lot. Just as he was pulling out of the parking lot, a figure suddenly crossed in front of his red racing car, landing on the engine hood.

Nicole braked abruptly and the sound echoed in the small space. Fortunately, he wasn't driving fast, but the car skidded a few meters with the figure on the hood.

With a thud, the car stopped and the figure fell to the ground in front of the vehicle.

Seeing Alec on the ground surprised Nicole.

Just as Nicole was about to call an ambulance, Alec, limping, walked towards her. "Miss Lawrence, I'm fine."

Nicole took a look at Alec and noticed that he had no obvious injuries, although he was limping. It seemed that the rain had softened the impact of the fall.

With her eyes slightly narrowed, Nicole said firmly, “You need to see a doctor.

"I'm going to call the police to report this, to avoid problems later."

“Miss Lawrence!” Suddenly, Alec screamed. «Miss Lawrence, please don't worry about me. I have come to ask you to visit Mr. Schultz.

Nicole looked at Alec indifferently and remained silent.

Tears filled Alec's eyes as he struggled to speak. “Miss Lawrence, Mr. Schultz has been kneeling in the doorway for eight hours. Before, he almost suffered heat stroke, and now he is in the pouring rain. He has coughed up a lot of blood, and his body can't take much more.

Alec was desperate to persuade Nicole, but he wasn't lying. If Jarrod kept this up, he would collapse.

“And why should I care about that?” Nicole asked, with a disinterested tone.

Hearing that, Alec was surprised. He was left speechless.

After a brief pause, Alec continued, "Miss Lawrence, from what you mentioned, Mr. Schultz is out there, kneeling in the doorway."

«That's ridiculous. Is Mr. Schultz some kind of loyal pet? Why would he listen to me like that? Nicole scoffed.

Alec didn't know what to answer. “Miss Lawrence, are you aware of what Mr. Schultz has endured these past five years? Aside from his job, Mr. Schultz always comes home on time. He has also kept close to his belongings. He has become seriously ill with pneumonia, occasionally coughs up blood and has difficulty breathing. I have tried to convince him to seek medical attention countless times over the years, but he refuses. He punishes himself daily..." Alec said, his voice heavy with sadness.

Thinking about Jarrod's ordeal over the past five years brought tears to Alec's eyes. He couldn't understand how Jarrod could inflict so much pain on himself, as if enduring suffering was Jarrod's way of coping with his guilt.

«Miss Lawrence, I am not asking you to forgive him. But right now, you are the only one who can save Mr. Schultz,” Alec humbly pleaded.

Through tears, Alec continued, "Miss Lawrence, considering Mr. Schultz's suffering these past few years, please have mercy and save him."

“Save him?” Nicole responded with a cold and sarcastic smile. «Would you forgive someone who drove your father to suicide? Would you forgive someone who destroyed your family and your life? Would you forgive someone who pushed you to hell?

His questions were filled with deep resentment.

Alec couldn't find the words to reply. As Jarrod's assistant, he was aware of Nicole's past sufferings. He could see Jarrod's reluctance and indecision. But for Nicole, those days were filled with pure desperation.

Feeling completely helpless, Alec pleaded, "Miss Lawrence, please, we're talking about a human life."

Nicole scoffed. «And what is valuable about Jarrod's life? Did you ever doubt when you destroyed my family?

Alec was at a loss for words to respond. Although Jarrod was not directly responsible for Wesson's death and Dora's illness, his tragic fate was deeply intertwined with his actions.

Unexpectedly, Wesson decided to end his life by jumping from a building, mirroring the fate of Jarrod's father.

«In this world, no one is above anyone. All lives are equal.

That is why Jarrod must face the consequences of his actions. With those words, Nicole got into her car.
