Raegan's mind reeled. A stepfather for Janey… The image of Mitchel appeared in Raegan's mind, but she quickly shook her head to dismiss the thought.

"I only have one requirement: that you be nice to Janey," Raegan finally responded.

“And what about you?”

"I?" Raegan asked with confusion on her face.

Stefan nodded. "Don't you have any expectations from your man?"

Raegan thought for a moment and replied, "Well, you have to be carefree, responsible, and honest with me."

Stefan refilled their drinks and dropped a bombshell. "Do you think I meet your criteria?"

“Ahem…” Raegan almost choked on her drink when she heard his question.

Seeing that Stefan was about to rush to her aid, Raegan waved her hand telling him not to worry.

As Raegan drank, Stefan asked bluntly, “Erick told me you're looking for someone to be Janey's stepfather. Would you take me into account?

Raegan took a deep breath, surprised by his words. «Stefan, you...

«Raegan, I have no romantic aspirations, and I think I am at the right age to start a family. We complement each other in many ways, and Janey likes me. “I think I am a suitable candidate for the role.”

Stefan said seriously.

Raegan agreed with him. Indeed, he was a good candidate to be Janey's stepfather.

As a scholar, Stefan had little interest in romantic matters and approached things rationally. He believed he was at an age where it was appropriate to start a family and was willing to accept Raegan as his wife.

Raegan understood Stefan's practical approach. It was obvious that he was not looking for a passionate romance, but rather for a compatible partner to be his wife.

For a moment, Raegan was silent, deep in thought. After a while, she came to the conclusion that Stefan was really the most suitable man for her. She knew him well and was sure he would be good to Janey.

However, the suddenness of it all took Raegan by surprise. He had planned to pair Stefan with Elin. But now, their paths seemed to separate.

But then again, there was something more pressing on his mind.

“Actually, right now…” Raegan began.

Just as Raegan was about to express her thoughts to Stefan, her words were abruptly cut off by a cold, stern voice. “Have you finished dinner?”

Mitchel appeared out of nowhere, pulled a chair between Raegan and Stefan and took a seat. He noticed the crab meat on Raegan's plate, peeled personally by Stefan, and his expression darkened, although he said nothing for the moment.

Raegan found herself in a rather awkward situation when Mitchel abruptly interrupted their conversation.

Realizing that Mitchel was the one who had sent the wine, Stefan narrowed his eyes and asked, "Raegan, who is this?"

"He's my ex-husband," Raegan replied.

"Her current husband," Mitchel corrected her.

Then, a silence enveloped them.

Hearing Raegan's words, Mitchel's face darkened even more.

Noticing the tension between Raegan and Mitchel, Stefan preferred not to say anything. Raegan remembered the last time Mitchel had shown her their wedding photo seemingly out of nowhere. I didn't want to aggravate the situation in public. He composed himself and reluctantly clarified: "He'll be my ex soon."

Mitchel was frustrated by her comment. What was the point of explaining his situation?

Meanwhile, Stefan remained composed and level-headed. Despite having questions, he knew better than to put Raegan on the spot.

"Shall we leave now?" Stefan suggested to Raegan, who nodded in response.

Stefan stood up. He and Raegan left the table without even looking at Mitchel.

Mitchel's expression darkened. Raegan acted like he was invisible to her.

Mitchel couldn't take it anymore. He loosened the button on his collar, strode forward, grabbed Raegan's wrist from behind, and pulled her into his arms.

Raegan struggled, but her efforts were in vain.

«If you continue resisting, I will not hesitate to remind you of that kiss. And this time, I will not be lenient with you,” Mitchel warned sternly in a low voice.

Raegan thought that Mitchel was capable of such actions, so she stopped resisting.

Stefan looked back at their clasped hands and asked, “Raegan?”

Mitchel's eyes had the ferocity of a wild animal about to attack.

Raegan was worried that Stefan and Mitchel might clash. Stefan, being more delicate, would be no match for Mitchel's brute strength and would surely get hurt.

«Stefan, go to the car and wait for me. “I have to talk to him,” Raegan responded.

Stefan looked worried and asked, "Are you sure you can handle him?"

At Stefan's words, Mitchel tightened his grip on Raegan's wrist, as if he was going to lash out at Stefan at any moment.

Raegan quickly stepped between them, protecting Stefan.

This gesture seemed to pierce Mitchel's heart, leaving him choking.

Raegan reassured Stefan: "Don't worry. I'll come see you later."

Reading Mitchel's look, Stefan trusted that Mitchel wouldn't hurt Raegan. Convinced that he could manage, he nodded and left.

Once Stefan walked away, Raegan angrily shook his hand. “Can you let go of me?”

Mitchel only loosened his grip a little but didn't let go. He asked her: «Do you call this being busy? Go out with another man?

His tone was unmistakably jealous. If Erick hadn't informed her of Mitchel's insanity for his first love, Raegan might have thought that Mitchel's jealousy was due to his feelings for her. With a smile, he preferred not to clarify, asking instead: "Mr. Dixon, are you jealous?"

Mitchel's lips pursed as he prepared to speak, but Raegan interrupted: Are you jealous? Feel free to date other women. "It doesn't bother me."

Raegan wasn't just fine with it. In fact, he loved the idea. That way, you could use your infidelity as leverage in the divorce process. That would accelerate his escape from that uncomfortable marriage.
