Chapter 245

The nurse nodded, and Roscoe walked out, holding the medical report.
The nurse, watching Roscoe's departure, suddenly felt that something was wrong.
Roscoe's tone seemed to drip with disdain when referring to the man waiting for Nicole.
His recollections revealed that, although Roscoe maintained an aloof air, he had never before addressed patients' families in that way.
As they left the operating room, Roscoe's observant eyes met those of Jarrod, whose forehead was marked with anxiety.
“Doctor, how are you?” Jarrod approached Roscoe, urgency in his voice. It was then that Jarrod recognized the familiar face of the doctor.
Roscoe, maintaining his professional demeanor, informed him: “The fetus has not survived. The patient is extremely weak and shows signs of physical abuse. He has lost several nails..."
Jarrod's heart clenched as he heard these words.
Roscoe continued: "He has a serious stomach ulcer. He hasn't eaten well for days and we found dirt in his stomach. If this continues, his condition will worsen.
Roscoe felt compelled to warn Jarrod about Nicole's condition, regardless of Nicole's reasons for keeping her cancer a secret.
After all, Nicole had to deal with Jarrod for a while before he managed to kick out Nicole's parents.
Roscoe hoped Jarrod still had some conscience.
Roscoe then presented a small box to Jarrod.
"She asked for this to be given to you before the operation."
Jarrod, looking at the dark box, had an ominous feeling.
Without opening it, he asked, "What's inside?" Calmly, Roscoe replied, "It contains a biological sample of the fetus."
Jarrod felt a sharp stab in his heart.
If Nicole had dared to do this, it meant that she was sure that the child was hers.
Her son… hers… How could she be so sure?
Caught in thought, Jarrod realized that, aside from the man's accusations, he had never actually seen Nicole's infidelity.
His mind churned with a torrent of thoughts.
Jarrod stumbled back, leaning on the wall for support.
Roscoe's face showed a slight mocking smile as he turned to leave.
After the operation, Nicole slept soundly.
Raegan came to visit her and sat next to her for a long time.
During that time, Roscoe came to check on Nicole, assuring Raegan that Nicole's deep sleep was normal.
Raegan watched Roscoe look at Nicole. His eyes held deep, unspoken affection.
But as soon as Roscoe looked up, that softness disappeared, leaving Raegan wondering if she had imagined things.
Soon Raegan's phone rang. It was a message from Mitchel.
“See you outside in five minutes.”
His mood changed to tension.
He gathered his belongings, leaned into Nicole's sleeping face, and whispered, "I promise I'll visit you again tomorrow, Nicole."
Outside, Raegan waited at the hospital entrance, watching as Mitchel's car gently approached.
The day was strikingly beautiful, the sun casting a golden light everywhere.
Mitchel walked out, attracting attention with his tall figure and striking appearance.
Dressed in a black cashmere coat and a bright red tie, he exuded a mix of youth and commanding presence.
The angular sunlight enveloped him, giving a radiant glow to his figure, as if he were an ethereal being that stepped on the earthly world.
Raegan, momentarily spellbound, was transported back to a winter day ten years ago.
On that occasion, she had been the victim of a cruel joke, soaked in ice water, shivering in the middle of a jeering crowd.
Then, an imposing figure appeared before her, his voice as crisp as the winter air: “Hey, you need to learn to stand up to bullies.”
He was like a ray of light in her darkest hour, his presence reaching deep into Raegan's soul.
Absorbed in her memories, Raegan didn't realize he was approaching until he gently took her hand and said, "Let's go."
His touch warmed her and, slightly dazed, she followed him to the car, not knowing where they were going.
The car stopped.
Before Raegan loomed the imposing City Hall building.
City hall? Raegan's eyes widened in shock and she turned to Mitchel.
“Why are we here?”
"To keep your promise."
Raegan's mind was spinning. The only thing they could do here was get married again.
It was incomprehensible to her that Mitchel wanted to marry her again.
She thought he despised her. But here they were, in the place where marriages were registered.
"Mitchel, I can't!"
After saying so, he turned to leave, only to find the wrist firmly grasped by him.
Raegan struggled in vain, her hand shaking with determined resistance.
Mitchel, sensing her protest, his refined features suddenly clouded with a cold and stern expression.
«Do you intend to break our agreement? Do you want Nicole to go back to the detention center? Mitchel asked, his voice grave and humorless.
Raegan froze abruptly. He couldn't allow Nicole to suffer that terrible fate again.
With a trembling voice, he pleaded, “Mitchel, you've never mentioned it. I'm sorry. "I can't accept it."
Their failed relationship had left wounds much deeper than the visible scars. It cast a shadow over his soul, and even Luciana was no longer by his side.
The idea of a marriage, despised by her parents, suffocated her.
"Mitchel, I'm willing to do everything I can to keep my promise, but marriage is a line I can't cross," Raegan said, her voice shaking.
With each word he spoke, Mitchel's features grew more frigid, his anger reaching a fever pitch.
"Anything else?" His grip on her coat tightened, his voice seething with rage.
«Can we do it here, right now? Hey?
Raegan clung to his hand, pleading, "No!"
Sensing her trembling, Mitchel loosened his grip and his expression returned to its usual calm, as if he were not the person consumed by fury.
His lips barely moved as he coldly proposed: "Three months."
Raegan looked at him, confused.
"What do you mean?"
«I need three months of marriage. After that, you can choose to finish."
