Chapter 1620:

? ? ? ? ?

Doreen tried hard to create a divide between Nicole and the child.

"Why should I extend my compassion to you?" Nicole found this funny and responded sharply.

"The current order is solely a consequence of your actions. My lack of applause is indicative of my upbringing. However, rest assured that it does not hinder my silence respect for our country's judicial system."

Doreen's face turned pale with anger, speechless and unable to reply with a single word.

At that moment, the wailing of police sirens filled the air. An officer approached and asked: "Who called the police?"

Nicole did not hesitate and raised her hand: "It was me!"

"Ma'am, what happened?" the officer asked, approaching.

Nicole pointed at Doreen and said, “She tried to throw sulfuric acid on me!”

Doreen's legs buckled when she saw the police. Earlier, in a fit of rage after being attacked, she had ordered a bottle of sulfuric acid to be brought to her in order to disfigure Nicole.

Now facing the law, Doreen panicked. She blurted out, “It wasn't me! “It wasn’t me.”

Tears began to run down Doreen's face as she assumed the role of the victim.

“Officer, I am a victim too. I was raped and the attacker claimed that someone was orchestrating it. I know who he is, Officer. “I can tell you.”

The officer, unfazed by Doreen's theatrics, responded with a stern frown. "Miss, please clarify what you are saying."

“It was her! She orchestrated the whole thing. That’s why I got so angry and resorted to sulfuric acid!” Doreen exclaimed desperately.

Doreen was really resourceful. Seeing that asking Jarrod for help was useless, she quickly changed her strategy.

By painting Nicole as the puppet master behind his assault, he hoped to present his own heinous act as a crime of desperation, an instinctive defense that might mitigate his punishment. The outcome, however, was uncertain.

At that moment, the wailing of sirens filled the air as an ambulance arrived. Paramedics rushed out and quickly placed Jarrod on a stretcher.

Jarrod's back bore the brutal evidence of the acid attack: burns and blisters appeared beneath the tatters of his shirt.

Prostrate and in pain, Jarrod was helpless as paramedics prepared to transport him to the hospital.

As the paramedics worked urgently, Doreen could only think about her impending fate. She ran to Jarrod's stretcher, grabbed his arm and pleaded through her tears: "Jarrod, you can't let them stop me. Please help me..."

His grip tightened and his fingers dug into Jarrod's already severe wounds, heedless of the agony he was inflicting.

Jarrod's face drained of color, his pain so intense that he could not utter a word. Sweat poured profusely down his forehead. Instantly, his strength was gone.

Jarrod had been struggling to stay conscious, driven by a fierce desire to protect Nicole despite feeling increasingly ill.

However, the arrival of the police and paramedics had allowed him a moment of respite, but it was shattered by Doreen's painful touch. Overcome by agony, I have succumbed to unconsciousness.

Reacting quickly, a paramedic harshly pulled Doreen back, scolding her as they secured Jarrod onto the stretcher.

"Are you crazy? Look at him. He's fainted. Are you trying to kill him?"
