Chapter 1600:

? ? ? ? ?

The next morning, Nicole stared at the abortion pills, deep in thought. She was faced with a difficult decision. Committed to challenging Jarrod in court, she knew that frequent interactions were inevitable.

The legal process would begin with mediation, which would prolong the order. Their paths would often cross, and their goal was to minimize complications. I have hoped for a quick resolution.

With a heavy heart, Nicole picked up the pills, popped one into her mouth, and prepared to swallow it with water.

At that moment, his phone vibrated. I assumed it was a telemarketer and dismissed the call.

As she was about to take a sip of water, the phone rang again, this time urgently. Realizing that telemarketers rarely returned her call so quickly, she hesitantly responded. It was Jarrod's new assistant. “Miss Lawrence?”

“Yes,” Nicole replied.

"I'm Conor Jensen, Mr. Schultz's assistant. Mr. Schultz would like to discuss visitation rights. May I speak now?"

Stunned for a second, Nicole immediately brightened up. “Yes, I'm available,” she said quickly.

“Excellent. Mr. Schultz has time now but will be busy later. Could you eat immediately?” Conor asked.

In her excitement, Nicole abandoned her plan to swallow the abortion pill by spitting it out. She hurriedly called a cab to the Schultz Group. Conor drove her to Jarrod's office.

As Nicole entered, she saw Jarrod busily typing away on his computer. Conor guided Nicole to a couch, poured her some water, and left the room.

After finishing his task, Jarrod approached Nicole.

Nicole, brimming with impatience, started the conversation by asking, “Are you going to let me see Austin?”

“I…” Before Jarrod could finish his sentence, Nicole felt a wave of nausea and started to gag. “Ugh…” she moaned.

The unexpected noise made Jarrod frown. “What's wrong with you?”

“I’m fine… Ugh…” Nicole struggled to speak as she felt like she was gagging again. She quickly covered her mouth and rushed to the office bathroom. Since she had been here often before, she knew exactly where it was.

Inside, with the door closed, the sound of Nicole's grasping filled the space, making Jarrod's frown deepen. Nicole's stomach continued to churn, causing her to dry out for several minutes, producing only a little saliva. This pregnancy was proving particularly difficult for her, with severe and uncomfortable symptoms.

In the bathroom, Nicole took a deep breath to steady her heart rate and maintain her composure. Finally, she calmed down. After rinsing her mouth, she slowly walked out of the bathroom.

To her amazement, Jarrod was waiting for her just outside the door. His six-foot-six height and formidable presence seemed quite intimidating. He looked at Nicole and asked quietly, “What's bothering you?”

Nicole's heart raced. She hid her nervousness and said, "I think I mixed hot porridge with something cold this morning. It didn't sit well with my stomach."

Despite her rationalization, Jarrod remained in the doorway, his presence heightening her anxiety. Feeling compelled to explain further, she added, “I’ve always had a delicate stomach.”

Jarrod watched her silently for a few seconds before turning away. “If you don't feel well, you should see a doctor,” he suggested in a distant tone.

Nicole took his comment not as a concern, but perhaps as a sign that Rhett's intervention was having an effect. They shared a son, and maintaining a cordial relationship was essential to their son's well-being.

Nicole nodded and said, “I will.”
