Chapter 1599:

As Mitchel approached, the room was filled with the familiar, comforting scent of his wife and children. Mitchel settled into bed quietly, but even his gentle movements woke Raegan. She blinked sleepily and murmured, “You back?”

“Yeah, sorry I woke you up,” Mitchel whispered, planting an apologetic kiss on her forehead.

“It's okay. I probably slept too much during the day. “I’ve been sleeping less lately,” Raegan replied quietly.

Then he asked, “Did you spend time with Jarrod tonight?”

“Yeah, I’ve spent time with him,” Mitchel replied. He had informed Raegan of his plans to meet Jarrod at the bar.

Raegan's expression soured. “Is he showing any signs of calming down?”

"I've tried to reason with him. If he remains stubborn, there's little I can do," Mitchell replied.

“She’s insufferable,” Raegan grumbled. “Nicole is already going through a rough patch. Why does she insist on making her problems worse?”

Raegan's frustration stemmed from her deep concern for her best friend. Over the years, it had always been Jarrod who added complexity to Nicole's life, disturbing her peace.

“I hope he sees reason.” Mitchel sighed. The problem was Jarrod's enormous pride. Once hurt, he refused to budge an inch. Both Jarrod and Nicole were entrenched in their stubbornness, one refusing to look back while the other steadfastly refused to compromise. They were destined to grow apart indefinitely.

“He's your friend. They say birds of a feather flock together. If you two get along, there must be some common ground,” Raegan said, pouting.

Mitchel was caught off guard. He hadn't anticipated that the conversation about Nicole and Jarrod would divert attention to him.

“Honey, please. Remember I begged you to come back to me,” Mitchell said, playing the sympathy card. He realized that reasoning with his wife was futile. He often ended up giving in to the argument or unintentionally hurting her feelings. So he opted for the quickest exit strategy, playing the sympathetic role and admitting guilt.

Reflecting on Mitchel's words, Raegan acknowledged that he had indeed made considerable efforts for their relationship. Despite his initial flaws, his persistent attempts at reconciliation had been genuinely sincere.

“Nice move,” Raegan scoffed.

Seeing Raegan's good mood, Mitchel pulled her close and kissed her hair. Raegan's cheeks flushed. "Enough... our girl is here."

Mitchel's voice, deep and reassuring, reassured her, "I know. I just want to hold you."

As their daughter grew older, they made a point of hiding their displays of affection from her. When their daughter insisted on sleeping in their bed, Mitchel put up with any discomfort.

He firmly avoided any intimate acts while his daughter was in the room.

Raegan, feeling the security of his embrace and knowing his intentions were pure, relaxed and rested her head on his arm. Overcome with drowsiness, she began to drift off. Mitchel gently kissed her forehead and whispered, “Raegan, I am so happy to have you and our children by my side.”

Half asleep, Raegan said softly, “We’ll always be together.”

“Yes, forever. “We will always be a family,” Mitchel replied softly. “Thank you, my love.”
