Chapter 16:

? ? ? ? ?

The shop assistant put her hand to her mouth and opened her eyes, surprised. Then he looked at Lauren.

The sass of side girls these days!

This woman was holding someone else's husband, yet she was so rude to the real wife. How shameless!

Lauren's face turned pale with embarrassment when she saw the look the clerk was now giving her.

"You!"

"That? Have I said something wrong? With regal grace, Raegan walked to the seating area and sat down. Then he added: "If you have something to say, say it."

The jewelry store's VIP room was very private. The shop assistant left them alone after serving them two cups of coffee.

Suppressing her anger, Lauren sat back down. She put the bag of gifts on the table and said quietly, "Guess what gift Mitchel brought me?"

«Is your attempt to brag about how much my husband spoils you? If so, I'm not interested."

The word “husband” chilled Lauren's face a little. But the next second, she smiled again. He took out a red velvet box from the gift bag and placed it on the table.

“Stop acting nonchalant, Raegan. Are you sure you don't want to see the ring he bought me? Lauren asked, crossing her hands on her knees.

Raegan was shocked and couldn't believe it.

Was the gift Mitchel had given Lauren a ring?

Despite the lack of response, Lauren took out the ring and carefully put it on. Then he raised his hand and shook his fingers.

"Isn't it beautiful?"

The diamond sparkled under the dazzling light. It was encrusted with a very rare blue diamond. Raegan had once heard that such a diamond was called Blue Tears, which was priceless.

Raegan's knuckles turned white as she clenched the shopping bag in her hand. The nails of his other hand dug into his palm and he began to bleed a little. However, he felt no pain.

Calm down, Raegan! She said to herself, letting out a slow sigh.

It was a trap. Lauren must have wanted her to act like a beast so that she could be painted as the hostile one.

However, no matter how hard he tried to stay calm, he still felt a rock in his gut. I couldn't breathe well.

I think Mitchel bought this diamond ring because he wants to propose to me. He has asked you to wait here because he wants you to witness our happy moment. I'm impatient.

Do you know he flew to Swynborough many times in the last two years just to see me? I was so stupid to have let such a good man go. Now, I'll make up for your lost time. "We are going to live happily ever after."

Lauren had dreamy eyes as she commented.

He continued: "If I hadn't gone abroad in a fit of anger, how could Mitchel have married someone else on a whim just to please his grandfather? I know he only did it to get back at me. "Now that I'm not feeling well, he's very worried about me."

"That's impossible!" Raegan blurted out, her face pale.

Raegan found it hard to believe that her two-year marriage to Mitchel had happened only because he wanted revenge on Lauren.

If it was true, what did that make her?

A pawn in their game?

Raegan refused to believe it. His hands couldn't stop shaking, and even his body couldn't help it.

Mitchel told her that he had made her his wife because she was the most suitable woman for that title. It made her feel very special. He thought they were meant to be together.

But now he found out that everything was false. How could it be?

An orphan like her was helpless. In case of abuse, he would have no choice but to endure it.

Maybe Lauren was telling the truth. Mitchel must have thought that she was the most suitable because he could easily dominate her.

Oh, what a fool I had been!

Seeing Raegan's pale face, Lauren knew she was moving forward now.

Lauren reached out and took Raegan's hand. The smile on his face grew softer.

«Raegan, I know it's hard to accept the truth, but my conscience has been stinging me for too long. "I felt like you deserved to know the truth now that you are getting divorced."

Lauren then swiped a bank card and continued sympathetically: “This card contains five million dollars. It's compensation from me and Mitchel. I hope you don't hold a grudge against us and forget everything about the Dixon family.

This was like a slap in the face to Raegan.

Raegan couldn't deny that Lauren had defeated her now. But the game was rigged against her from the beginning!

Memories flooded his mind like a tidal wave of horror.

Over the past two years, Mitchel has made several business trips to Swynborough. He spent many days on each occasion. No matter how much she begged him, he refused to take her with him.

To make matters worse, he wasn't the one who bought her the wedding ring she was wearing on her hand. It was Matteo who gave it to her before she got the marriage certificate.

Apparently, Matteo bought the ring on Mitchel's orders.

But still, Raegan had appreciated the ring so much that she didn't take it off even to shower.

Now he realized that he had received the minimum.

His heart shattered at that moment. The wound inside was worse than a leg crushed by a truck.

Mitchel was so cruel.

Why did he hurt her like that?

Raegan felt suffocated. Unwilling to listen any further, she jumped up with the shopping bag in her hand.

"Aren't you going to wait for Mitchel to come back?" Lauren stood up too.

Raegan suppressed the pain rising in her heart and scoffed, “Lauren, you got what you wanted. What more do you want from me?

Lauren's smile froze. He said with false innocence: “What do you mean? I only told you the truth because I felt sorry for you.

Why do you make it seem like I'm the problem here?

“What are you so afraid of?” Raegan asked him directly.

She was a little naive, but she wasn't stupid.

It was clear to her that Lauren had said all that just so she would give up her feelings for Mitchel.

But did Lauren have to go that far?

It was clear that Mitchel didn't love her and that's why he had lost the game.

As a result, Raegan didn't understand why Lauren continued to feel insecure.

For a fleeting second, Lauren's face changed, but her calm, confident smile returned as if it had never left.

Lauren pointed to herself and said, “Me? Fear? Why would I have it?

Everyone knows I'm the love of Mitchel's life. He may have slept with you several times, but that doesn't change anything. I am abroad and I cannot satisfy your sexual desire. Men always have needs. "I can understand him."

Lauren presented herself as a warrior who sacrificed herself for her Love, as if Raegan had interfered in their relationship.

“Since you are so sure of yourself, why do you keep trying to push me into anger?”

Raegan found this amusing. With one hand on her hip, she looked at Lauren and asked, “Why are you telling me all this now? Are you trying to exaggerate your place even though you're still nothing more than a side chick?

"You!" Lauren pointed at Raegan as her cheeks puffed out in anger.

«Let's see if I understand it. If you feel cheated, it's up to you. I never did anything to hurt you. I don't need your fake kindness nor do I owe you shit.

Raegan's words irritated Lauren to the bone. Just as Lauren was about to charge at Raegan, she froze.

“Ah!” Lauren screamed. Somehow, the cup of coffee in front of her spilled onto her body and hands. It looked like a disaster.

Raegan's eyes narrowed. This crazy woman was up to something bad again!

Lauren blinked hard to stifle tears. He looked at Raegan with pity and said, "I have been nothing but kind to you, Raegan." I don't understand why you hate me. But if you want to vent your anger, hit me. "I promise not to defend myself."

Suddenly, he grabbed his head and staggered back as if he had lost all his strength.

“Lauren!”

A tall figure appeared out of nowhere and caught her by the hair.

"What happened?" Frowning, Mitchel asked coldly.
