Chapter 1594:

Nicole and Rhett agreed to meet at a quaint cafe.

Being considerate, Rhett opted for a caffeine-free jasmine tea for Nicole. “Considering the hour, coffee might disturb your sleep tonight.”

“Thank you, Mr. Bates.” Nicole had a favorable impression of Rhett. He had a scholarly air, often wearing glasses and dressed in somber shades of black or gray. His bearing conveyed gentility and refinement, but in the courtroom he advocated with fervor and effectiveness.

Rhett's methodology diverged from that of his colleagues in the legal field. His arguments were based on sound reasoning and logic rather than mere aggressiveness.

With his calm demeanor, he would disarm people before confronting them with pointed questions to extract the necessary answers. This reputation earned him the nickname “The Smiling Devil” in legal circles.

Delving into various facets of the case, Rhett reassured her: "Miss Lawrence, I swear on my career that I will get you visitation rights this time."

“Mr. Bates, such a solemn promise is not necessary. Together, we will strive to achieve the best outcome. “I trust in your abilities.” Nicole felt a twinge of shame at the seriousness of Rhett’s expression. It was unconventional for a lawyer to make such a bold statement against Jarrod, let alone stake his career on it.

“Miss Lawrence, you don't need to be so formal. Just address me as Rhett.” Rhett smiled.

“In that case, you don't need to be so formal either. Mr. Bates, let’s excuse with formalities,” Nicole replied.

Seeing Nicole's efforts to address him informally, Rhett decided not to press the issue further and simply smiled. "Okay.

Rhett photographed the draft agreement before sending it to his assistant.

At that moment Nicole's phone range. As she picked it up, she inadvertently took out a medicine from her bag. The pillbox fell to the floor.

Nicole rushed to pick it up, but Rhett got there first and quickly handed it back to her.

Out of courtesy, Rhett refrained from examining the pillbox, leaving Nicole in the dark about whether he had seen the medication label. He preferred to keep his pregnancy a secret, ideally without revealing it to anyone, to avoid unnecessary complications. After all, he had no intention of keeping the baby.

As Nicole put the medication in her purse, she prepared to explain, “This is…”

“Is it for your stomach problems? Are you still monitoring them?” Rhett asked before she could finish. He seemed to ignore the name of the medicine. Nicole breathed a sigh of relief. In that case, no lengthy explanation was necessary. She agreed. “Indeed.”

Rhett suggested, “If you wish, I can introduce you to a prominent traditional medicine practitioner who specializes in stomach ailments.”

"That would be excellent. Thank you, Mr. Bates."

Rhett stopped talking about the matter and redirected the conversation back to the case.

Time passed quickly. Rhett outlined several strategies, anticipating the opposing counsel's possible arguments and offering appropriate countermeasures. Nicole found them practical, complemented by contingency plans. The level of detail was impressive.

The discussion continued for more than two hours. At the end, Rhett stood up and politely shook Nicole's hand. "Miss Lawrence, it has been a pleasure working with you. I assure you that you will not be disappointed this time."

“Thank you, Mr. Bates. I am truly grateful.” His timely help felt like a heavenly blessing to Nicole.
