Chapter 1584:
? ? ? ? ?
Callie's feelings remained frank. Previously uninformed of the ins and outs, she stood firmly by her father. He was the one who loved her with his life, and she harbored no intentions of causing him harm.
However, Nicole's revelations caused a change in Callie's perspective. Although she was unsure of her father's involvement, she remained steadfast in her belief in the integrity of the Lawrence family.
If his father had been the last person to see Wesson alive, he felt he should step forward to clear things up. After all, Wesson had been kind to his family, especially his father. It would be ungrateful to ignore him.
Seeing Callie's determination, Laurie quickly intervened, warning her, "Callie, please refrain from such claims. This matter has nothing to do with your father. Perhaps that woman deceived you. Your trust in her may be misplaced. You should be cautious."
Callie stood her ground and replied, "I find it unlikely that Nicole cheated on me."
Callie's memories of Nicole were characterized by benevolence. Nicole had always treated her well. How could Nicole make up such claims? Furthermore, Nicole implied that if her father persisted in hiding, the authorities would obtain a court order.
This indicated that there was substantial evidence implicating Brett as the last individual present. However, he hesitated to reveal this to Laurie, fearing that she would not be able to handle the revelation.
Laurie slapped Callie's forehead, expressing her frustration, "Callie, aren't you thinking straight? Just because he gave you some old-fashioned dolls in your youth, you accept his every word? That's your father."
Laurie raised her voice. “How can you doubt your father and put your trust in a stranger?”
“Nicole never gave me used dolls. They were always new, with the tags intact,” Callie replied, her lips twisted into a pout.
In addition, these dolls were exclusive editions that were not available to Callie's classmates. Every time Callie expressed her admiration for something, Nicole would remind her and give it to her on subsequent occasions.
The dolls she received from Nicole had been brought to her ward during her hospital stay, serving as a tremendous source of comfort. In addition, many children coveted her collection, which made her treatment more bearable.
Hearing this, Laurie became even more angry. “He tricked you and yet you are still grateful to him!”
Although Laurie cherished her granddaughter, her son held an equally important place in her heart. He was the embodiment of her flesh and blood, and she swore to protect him from harm.
Although Callie didn't agree with her grandmother's assessment, she also couldn't imagine that her father was capable of such actions. Her emotions were in turmoil. Despite her inner conflict, Callie remained kind and accommodating, and she wasn't about to defy her grandmother. As a result, she kept her thoughts to herself.
Laurie, however, remained uneasy and issued a stern warning: “I warn you, young lady, you are forbidden to contact that woman again. Do you understand? Don’t wait until she destroys our family to realize your mistake.”
Laurie had painted Nicole as a malevolent figure. Although Callie didn't share this sentiment, she was used to avoiding confrontation with her grandmother. So she just agreed.
Laurie still did not calm down and firmly stated: “You stay home for now. If you need anything, I will have our neighbor at the supermarket help you. Stay home, understood?”
Callie had not anticipated her grandmother's restriction on her outings. Despite her reluctance, she had no choice but to comply with her grandmother's wishes.
Recognizing her grandmother's age, Callie was hesitant to defy her, fearing it might jeopardize her health and lead to costly hospital visits, further straining her father's already strained finances.
