Chapter 1553:
? ? ? ? ?
Jarrod's face was grim, his lips pressed tightly together. Alec's fury flared.
“Losing this arm doesn't bother me. I would give my life for you without hesitation. Ever since you rescued me, I have dedicated my life to you. But this woman's heart is elsewhere. “She is not worthy of your sacrifices.”
Every word Alec said hit Jarrod like a knife. Sharp as he was, Jarrod couldn't ignore the obvious truth that Nicole prioritized Roscoe over him.
But sometimes, a real gambler was someone who knew the risks but still chose to fight.
Despite everything, Jarrod still wanted Nicole by his side, clinging to the faint hope that she would one day move.
“I’ll decide what’s worth it,” Jarrod said. “You lost that arm to save me. Say what you want. Whatever makes you feel better.”
Alec's anger faded, his face turning stern. "Sir, I'll let her go for your own good, but Roscoe, I want your arm."
Nicole caught the determined coldness in Alec's gaze. I have meant it. She said dryly, "If you have grievances, settle them with me. Why involve Roscoe?"
Nicole frowned. In this whole situation, Roscoe was the innocent party. If she had decided to save Jarrod at that moment, Roscoe's recognition body would probably have been crushed beyond.
The tree falling was an act of nature. If Jarrod and his team hadn't been there to rescue her and Roscoe, they wouldn't have been in such danger.
With the Major's intervention, Nicole assumed that she and Roscoe might have managed to escape on their own, but there was no denying that Jarrod had saved them.
If Alec held her responsible for his injury, she could accept that. But holding Roscoe responsible was unfair. It was she who chose to save Roscoe.
If grievances needed to be resolved, they should turn to her.
“I wouldn't have lost my arm if you hadn't saved it, would I?” Alec replied.
Alec didn't really blame anyone and recognized it as an accident. Even if he was given another chance, he would choose the same path.
Even though Nicole had warned Jarrod of the impending danger, he could still have gotten hurt.
Yet Alec's resentment lingered. Watching Nicole instinctively save another man felt like Jarrod's efforts and sacrifice had been in vain.
What was so good about Roscoe? Hadn't Jarrod been good to Nicole? He has risked his life to save her, only to be disappointed!
Alec wanted to prove to Jarrod that Nicole would always stand by Roscoe, no matter what.
Nicole thought that was ridiculous. “Alec, do you really think that’s reasonable?”
Alec scoffed, “You left Mr. Schultz to save Roscoe. That’s the truth, isn’t it?”
"I didn't leave anyone behind. Roscoe was helpless at the time. Did I just have to watch him die?" Nicole couldn't accept Alec's logic.
"So you were okay with the prospect of Mr. Schultz facing danger!" Livid, Alec turned to Jarrod.
“Sir, did you get that? She would stand by and watch you die. I can't watch you anymore. Don't risk your life for her again. If you die, she’ll probably be back with Mr. Watts before you know it.”
Alec's words were venomous, designed to cut deep.
