Chapter 1543:

? ? ? ? ?

Hope took hold of Nicole. Maybe she could get out of this. It was clear that Jarrod had planned this rescue, as evidenced by the bag of burning sticks he was carrying.

Below, his team fought the swarm of parasites, throwing the sticks outward to form a barrier. The flames destroyed nearby parasites and kept distant ones at bay.

However, the number of parasites was too great, overwhelming any efforts to completely eradicate them.

Jarrod's men, overwhelmed themselves, were no longer able to provide assistance. Only Jarrod, concerned for Nicole's safety, braved the danger to help her.

Seeing Nicole's injured hands, pain flashed across Jarrod's eyes as if he himself had been hit. Silently, he knelt down and used his knife to cut the bonds on her feet.

Once Nicole was untied, Jarrod ripped off his sleeve and made a makeshift bandage for her bleeding hands, driven by the pain she was in. He asked softly, “Does it hurt?”

“No,” Nicole replied quietly, prioritizing survival over her discomfort. Her focus was now on escaping safely.

Jarrod, his expression tense, prepared to carry Nicole to safety. “Get on my back. “I’ll get us out of here,” he said, bending down to pick her up.

Given the danger she was in, carrying Nicole on her back was more practical than carrying her in her arms, as it allowed her to keep an eye on the swarming parasites and defend herself from anyone who got too close.

Suddenly, Nicole stopped Jarrod. “Wait! What about Roscoe? Please help me save him.”

Nicole realized she was making an important request from Jarrod, who probably preferred to rescue her without distractions.

However, with his sharp knife, Jarrod could free Roscoe much faster than she could.

The area was crawling with parasites as each nest had been broken open, continually releasing more creatures into their dangerous environment.

The sheer magnitude of the parasites made it impossible for human efforts alone to prevail, and their only shield, the fire sticks, provided a merely ephemeral defense.

As the urgency grew with each passing second, Nicole, in a softer tone, pleaded, “Help me save him and I’ll owe you one.”

Despite her initial misgivings, Nicole's plea swayed Jarrod. He handed her an unlit fire stick for self-protection.

“Stay alert and defend yourself,” he ordered before heading to the back of the lotus platform where Roscoe was tied. Jarrod quickly cut the bonds, revealing his prowess.

Roscoe was visibly surprised by Jarrod's help, given their tense history.

Got a genuine “Thank you.”

Jarrod's response, however, was chilling. He held his knife out, pressing it lightly against Roscoe's throat with a menacing whisper.

"Stay away from my wife, or next time, I won't hesitate." Roscoe remained silent, his expression stern.

Nicole, alert to the invasion of parasites, shouted: "Are you done?"

Jarrod, after one last look at Roscoe, sheathed his knife and replied, “Yes.”

Nicole turned to see Roscoe, looking tired and pale, leaning against the lotus platform. “Jarrod, take him away from here,” Nicole ordered.
