Chapter 1529:

? ? ? ? ?

He didn't give any more details and Nicole didn't inquire further. She offered to help carry him, but he declined.

Nicole packed her dried meat and rifle. The older man, hardened by years of mountain life, moved quickly despite the weight he carried.

A trip that Nicole would have taken four days alone, they managed to complete more than half in just a day and a half.

They traveled through the night and rested during the day to stay away from wild animals. When they found a safe place, they settled down to sleep. Exhausted, Nicole fell asleep almost immediately.

Meanwhile, unexpected visitors had arrived at the old man's cabin.

The leader, wrapped in a black jacket and impeccable cut, looked both handsome and stern.

Just then, Alec shouted, "Sir, could this be your wife's bracelet?"

Jarrod picked up the bracelet, inspected it closely, and replied, “Yes, it most certainly is.”

Still unsure, Alec asked, “Sir, how can you be so sure?”

“Look here.” Jarrod pointed to a distinctive mark on the inside of the bracelet and commented nonchalantly, “It’s unmistakably yours.”

The bracelet bore the distinctive MQ Jewelry logo, its presence an anomaly in the modest surroundings of the thatched cottage. Nicole, not given to ostentatious ornaments, preferred practical gold pieces. So each season she had MQ Jewelry send her her latest gold creations.

These pieces were not valued just for their weight, but for their exquisite craftsmanship. Even a small piece could fetch a price far in excess of standard gold. Yet here lay one of these treasures, seemingly abandoned in the rustic confines of the cabin.

Jarrod frowned in concern as he spoke quietly. “We need to find out where Nicole went, and quickly.”

Alec nodded, his expression determined. “Understood.”

Accompanied by their trained hunting dogs, they quickly picked up a trail and headed into the rugged expanse of the mountains.

Watching Jarrod's determination to join them, Alec hesitated before speaking, concern evident in his voice. “Sir, perhaps we should take a break? He's barely rested in 72 hours, save for that short nap in the car. “His body can’t keep up like this.”

Jarrod, unlike the rest, did not share his ability to doze off easily during car journeys. Instead, he would just furrow his brow slightly, appearing to have not slept well, probably due to the weight of his worries.
