Chapter 1438:

? ? ? ? ?

However, Jarrod's unexpected request for a vasectomy had thrown her off balance, prompting her to accelerate her plan. Vicki thought that only Austin's passing would derail Jarrod's vasectomy plans and potentially lead him to seek another child instead.

Vicki hadn't anticipated just how much trouble Austin, that little pest, would become. Not only had her carefully laid plan fallen apart, but he had turned the tables on her.

A storm of fury erupted in Vicki's soul. Tears ran down her cheeks as despair colored her voice, pleading with Jarrod: "Jarrod, I've been honest with Austin. We've been together for years. Don't you understand my character? Would you believe a child who's been in your life for a few weeks more than me?"

Her screams echoed with anguish, portraying a sense of genuine injustice.

Jarrod's expression was contemplative, his gaze reflecting deep thought as he took in Vicki's words. Over the years, Vicki had never hurt anyone on purpose. If it hadn't been for the video of her mercilessly attacking Nicole, her plea might have convinced him.

However, on the recording, Vicki whispered in Nicole's ear: "I intend to hurt Austin." Her words were drowned out by the clamor of those around her.

As Jarrod watched Vicki's lip movements, he realized that Nicole's accusations were true. Vicki had indeed threatened to end Austin's life, and Vicki's eyes betrayed her attempt as she struck Nicole.

Jarrod couldn't help but be amazed at the unpredictability of people. The Vicki he knew was nothing like the malevolent figure before him.

Jarrod's silence was interpreted by Nicole as an attempt to protect Vicki. She was quick to intervene: "Vicki, keep your account to the authorities."

Vicki's fury erupted. Who was this woman to question? Nicole had no jurisdiction.

Vicki thought Jarrod's silence was indicative of a softer stance toward her. Seizing the moment, she adopted a pitiful attitude, saying through tears, "Miss Lawrence, I hold no grudge against you. I understand. You cannot stand by as I prepare to marry Jarrod, driven by envy and a desire to hurt me. My affection for Austin has always been sincere. Yet now, you slander me, claiming that I harbor intentions to hurt him. Who will recognize the injustice I suffer?"

Pausing for dramatic effect, Vicki continued: “I understand your need to protect your son. However, if you continue to mistreat me, my father will not tolerate it.”

Vicki invoked Wayne's name, confident in the widespread knowledge that Jarrod would never ignore Wayne's influential support.

In fact, when Jarrod's position was precarious, it had been the backing of the Hampton family that had secured him his position at Ardlens. Vicki believed that this fact alone would negate any suspicion of wrongdoing on Jarrod's part.

"He does not harbor any malice and was actually quite anxious about me," Nicole commented.
