Katherine's

POV

Thinking of the dark days that lay before me in the mental hospital, I felt satisfied, yet I had only one regret: that I didn't avenge my parents.

I sighed as my gaze moved over a few paintings in the reception area, waiting for the medical van to arrive.

"Come on, it's no use wasting your time here," John said proudly, and regardless of the other people around us, he grabbed me and pulled me roughly toward the door. His patience had run out, and he picked me up by my shirt collar and carried me toward the van. "You can rest assured that I have taken care of it inside, and you won't suffer a lot."

John became quiet, and his face suddenly sank, and my gaze caught a figure standing a few feet from the van.

"Why is Alpha Xavier here?" John asked nervously and was about to go up and shake hands when he remembered that he was holding my collar and immediately let go.

Xavier slowly approached us and came to stand in front of me, lifting a lock between his fingers.

"Are you here to see me off?" I asked tearfully. Even though I didn't avenge my parents, I was very happy to see Xavier before I left.

Xavier gave me a tender smile, and his eyes were full of love and hope. He turned me around and untied the rope.

"Alpha Xavier, you..." Before John finished, Xavier turned around with a deadly look, and John swallowed his words.

"John, I'm here to talk business," Xavier said, lifting the papers in his hand.

John stared blankly at the papers for a moment, then a smile reached his lips.

"No problem, Alpha Xavier; I can take care of that," John said, holding out his hand.

Xavier curled up his nose in disgust and shook his head.

"I'm not giving the contracts to you, and I have particular requirements for working with the King Group."

"No problem!" John said, "Let's talk in the conference room. I will meet you there in a few minutes; I just need to take care of some family issues first."

With that, John waved his hand to the security guard, and Xavier pulled me behind him, giving John a dangerous glare. John took two steps back when he saw it and froze, unsure what Xavier was about to do.

"John, are you in such a hurry that you are not willing to listen to what I need to say and offer?" Xavier asked coldly.

John's eyes widened, and he shivered at Xavier's tone. He shook his head, and fear crossed his eyes.

"One of these two files," Xavier said, lifting the papers into the air, "is the previous tender's real estate development contract, and the other is the tender we won a few days ago. John, do you know the value of these two lists?" John nodded and swallowed hard.

"Throw away all expenses, and the net profit of these two orders is nearly 700 million dollars. If the King Group agrees to cooperate, then Black Umbrella is willing to distribute 43% to the King Group. You only need to invest 30% of the cost." John didn't say anything, but the expression on his face had already exposed his excitement.

"Alpha Xavier, that is good news. Would you tell me what your requirements are so that I can meet your needs?"

When Xavier heard this, a grin followed his lips. He turned toward me and gave me a soft and loving smile.

"I want Kate to be in charge of this project."

In the conference room, a group of employees chirped and gossiped. All the top management and directors listened to Xavier's offer, and each employee attending had a different emotion displayed on their face.

"Alpha Black, your offer is very tempting, but Ms. King is a mental patient. She is prone to self-harm and violence. Your proposal to have Ms. King run the project is absurd," one director said. His eyes were full of disdain. Xavier ignored the man and turned to John.

"John," Xavier said, pinning him under his gaze, "can you comment on the director's comment about Kate being violent and self-harming? I know the internet has rumors about Ms. Kate being violent and having sustained a head injury because of that, but is it good to say that even the internet has made mistakes?"

Greyson chuckled behind his hand, finding John's reaction hilarious. He turned all the colors of the rainbow on and kept quiet.

John was worried that Xavier would expose him and tell the board what had really happened. He was there after all.

In addition, he also knew that should he not go along with what Xavier wanted, Xavier might tell the board that John drugged him and tried to blackmail him with photos.

If either of these two events came to light, John would be ruined, and he would be asked to take his things and leave.

I have done a bit of research on the kind of man and wolf Xavier is. I knew Xavier took over the pack and the company in his early years and that he made a decisive decision. His style of doing things was different from others.

John might be able to frame me for things, but Xavier was one to reckon with. He didn't, like me, sit and wait for the perfect opportunity. He took the opportunity, and if John didn't cooperate, things might go a bit south too fast for him. "Alpha Xavier, even if you can guarantee that Kate doesn't have mental problems, she has no business experience at all. The two projects you want her to control don't contain small amounts, and we can't afford to have anything go wrong." Before Xavier could say anything, Christopher, who was sitting at the side, gave John a serious look.

"You are one to speak!" Christopher growled, and all attention moved to him. "You haven't even completed your high school education. Kate has at least enrolled to further her studies. Why can't she learn?"

John choked and kept quiet, his face turning red out of embarrassment.

Xavier took the opportunity and distributed the business plan and profit-sharing table he had made copies of to all the executives and directors.

"This project is undoubtedly a big opportunity for all of us. I am not here to create conflicts with everyone; my attention is on working together. If you still have questions about my attention, then look at the data in front of you. Can you eliminate this doubt from your minds and focus on the data on hand?"

Xavier handed me a copy as well, and every important aspect was clearly marked, even what profit we should make from the net profit and even the employee benefits.

Money is evil, and people die for it. Looking at a series of zeros on the report, everyone present is moved.

Some employee representatives were surprised to see the figures on the staff's estimated benefits.

Without waiting for others to express their opinions, they sign their names after agreeing to the benefits.

Among the directors, Christopher only glanced at the report and signed it, while others' eyes widened when they saw the estimated profit we would make.

Yet John was still so angry that he didn't give in.

"Since all the directors' representatives agree, let's do what Alpha Xavier suggested, yet in order to ensure that the project does not have flaws, I think it is better to choose an experienced person from King Group's finance department to teach Kate to meet Alpha Xavier's requirements and ensure the progress of the project."

"John, you are absolutely right," Xavier said and nodded in agreement, "so I have already arranged for someone from my company to assist Ms. Kate. After all, the project is by Black Umbrella Enterprises. There is no reason for King Group to take over." John smiled awkwardly, and Xavier pulled me to my feet.

"John, please remember that my request is that Kate be the only one who is allowed to run the project! She must run it alone. Is that clear?"

John nodded with a smile, and Xavier didn't want to continue talking and grabbed my hand and headed toward my office.

Sarah stood at the door and watched us as we came down the corridor hand in hand and got up. Before she could open her mouth, Xavier gave her a cold look, and she sat back in her chair.

Once inside my office, Xavier closed the blinds and pulled me to his hard chest, and I could feel his heartbeat rising.

"You f*cking scared the living sh*t out of me," he growled down at me. "What were you thinking?"

I sighed.

"I am sorry, Xavier." I tried to apologize, but Xavier pushed his lips hard against mine, and the need and emotions could clearly be felt in his kiss.

"Don't do that again!" His husky voice was low and dangerous, yet I knew the warning wasn't meant for me.

I nodded in response.

"You don't have to worry about the project," Xavier said as he got his emotions under control. "I will teach you how to do it."

I looked down, crossed my arms like I was cold, and nodded my head.

Xavier came to stand before me, shifted his head to the side, and placed his hands on his shoulders.

"You do know you have a home with me," he whispered.

My gaze met his, reading the tender love in his blue eyes.

"I know," I said, "but I am still part of the..."

A soft knock sounded at the office door, interrupting us, and Xavier's gaze snapped toward the door.

"Enter!" he growled, annoyed.

Greyson popped his head in, saw us, and showed us the stack of paperwork in his hands.

"I am happy to announce that all the directors, management, and employee representatives signed and agreed to the terms and conditions. I have also ensured and confirmed that John understood the terms, and he has no problem whatsoever." Greyson gave us another look and suddenly smiled, then retreated from my office as fast as he could.
